I was hoping somebody knows more info on this, it was showing at Roxy prior to Marvin the Martin in 3D. Which opened in 1997. In my opening brochure for MW it states the following..

At the Roxy Theatre, bullets and knives come at you from every direction during ADVENTURES IN THE FOURTH DIMENSION. It's a journey beyond the screen - and into the word of make-believe and time travel

with a little prompting I could just about recite this show word for word - having seen/worked the venue during the early days many times over. The preshow videa was siimply done by the late great Ernest Borgnine talking about 3D movies and their relevance during the 50s and 60's.. Today at the Roxy we were going to explore the '4th' dimension - which is Time. You then head into the theatre and using technology to splice current actors with old film footage a story is told of how two kids walk off a tour on the WB's lot and meddle with a 'movie' time machine developed by a mad professor.. A pretty dreadful story but not a bad effort for MW's 1st 3D adventure (that was shot and made specifically for the park BTW). It was just a film with no in theatre effects other than really good sound and the screen back then was a much smaller square box shape - at least half the size of the current monster that was installed for Marvin. These screens were imported from the USA at a pretty big cost. BTW 3D screens are Silver - not white.. It helps reduce the glare and bring out the colour and picture with better clarity:)

Actually a lot of theatre projection screens are silver. For the same reasons as you describe, but they work on 2d movies too, and a lot of the big theatres have them - usually the ones that have curtains \ drapes covering the screen until the feature starts. SOme more commercial theatres may have moved off to a white backing, but the silver does reflect the light back at the audience much better.

Kind of not correct. The reason for the silver screen is indeed for 3D, the silver preserves the polarisation of the light which is essential for 3D to work at all. Way back in the day movie theatres did have silver screens but they are not the best choice for today. Silver screens can give you a hot spot (bright patch) in the centre and reflect much less light than a white 'high gain' screen, so you need a brighter projector. Most new cimena complexes now (like eVent) are fitting all cinemas with silver screens so every theatre is 3D capable. If you're seeing a movie in 3D, then it's definately a silver screen.

The time machine used in this attraction was originally built for the 1979 film “Time After Time” starring Malcolm McDowell.  It was also used for the Gremlins attraction and the Scooby Doo ride.  I’ve been trying to track down the prop and have emailed the park about it, but they tend to think it was probably sent back to the states and is sitting in one of the WB warehouses.
