IT’S a nightmare come true: a group of passengers stuck atop a roller-coaster ... as a thunderstorm rolls in.

The fire department in Tampa, Florida, is reporting that more than a dozen fun park guests are stuck atop a roller-coaster that has broken down.

Complicating the scenario is an approaching thunderstorm.

NBC South Florida reported that three people have been retrieved from the ride but 13 are still stuck on the Cheetah Hunt roller-coaster at the Busch Gardens theme park.

A park spokesperson said the passengers were not in any distress, despite being unable to move.

The malfunction happened near the loading station of the ride.

Slow news day?

It crawls through that turn very slowly. It's quite drawn out as well, so it's not really surprising it finally got stuck.

I love the overhyping of the article. They don't mention that the coaster got stuck at a height of <10m - "stuck atop coaster" sounds much more dramatic.

For those too lazy to check it out, here's a video. I can see it has pace problems pretty much the whole way through - there are several places where this thing could stall, and no wonder it has 3 or more propulsion points....

I don't really see any other points it could get stuck on except the first turn, from there it looks to be having regular coaster pacing straight through, with the regular high points after the launches in order to catch a miss-launch and avoid a stalling.

Seriously? just push the fucker back to the station.

The ride wasn't stalled, it was stuck, so they could't move it.

It was really stormy weather, som one possible explanation could be that a plastic bag or something similar had blew up on the track and got stuck in the wheel assembly. It could really be anything like that, and the park will most likely not release any info about it.

Stormy weather can include winds that, in the right direction and with the right force can actually maroon a coaster in a spot it would never stop at under normal circumstances.

Bush beast used to have a wind force meter mounted at the top of the lift hill, with the gauge in the ops booth. Although she could run in fairly strong wind, even a medium gust from a particular direction would cause the train to stall on the first turn after the drop. The ride would shut down if the wind was coming from that direction with any force.
