Battlestar Galactica coaster closure/retheme

Bumping a really old thread..

It looks like it might be the end of the BSG dueling coasters. I hope this isn't true. They were a great set of coasters (and must have cost a fortune to construct). I find it hard to believe that they could pull that down and build something else by the end of the year. They probably have this confused with the building that is taking place at the other end of the park, rumoured to be the Singaporean version of the Despicable Me ride.

Having read some other articles, it's starting to sound like a re-theme. They're saying that people can't relate to Battlestar Galactica because they can't remember the show - not because they are intimidated by the size of the ride. Apparently the Human side did stall out in July last year - presumably they have got that fixed.

Cool - great timing. The Despicable Me Ride is reportedly being built on the far side of Donkey Live! Look out for the streetscape of Gru's house, if it's going to be anything like the Hollywood version. BSG has been boarded up for a while. Hopefully they will re-theme them the same way they did the dueling coasters at IOA.

I presume you've been there before. Enjoy the Transformers Ride.

According to screamscape.com Despicable me will NOT be coming to Uni Singapore - frankly I'm totally fine with this. The idea is cute and all but having rode it's two previous incarnations, the ride system is unconvincing and well, just blah..

When I was visiting a couple of months ago I was surprised to see how run down the duelling coasters had become. Faided paint and signs of surface rust everywhere. I was never the biggest fan of Battlestar - both sides made an uncomfortable burn as they launched over the top and poorly negotiated corners with a few sharp bumps here and there.. The red side almost barely made it to the finish line and allegedly didn't on a few occasions before being shuttered for good. It's certainly no duelling dragons/dragon challenge and suffered badly because of it's Vekoma heritage.

God forbid they don't enlist kumback for the rumoured new trains. ? If the ride does indeed stay, perhaps Startrek could make for a good theme? Star fleet vs Borg perhaps? ? Or is this perhaps being reconsidered as a future site for a Wizarding World? Hmm..

I'm not too impressed with what I've seen of the Minions Mayhem thing either. It has a ride system? Is it like Back to the Future or The Simpsons ride?

Perhaps, they're going to revert back to their Kung Fu Panda idea. The character's always a big hit in the park.

I didn't know they still had the rights to Star Trek. Loved the show they used to have at USH.

Maybe it will be Harry Potter..

I'm not aware of a change to USS's version - i'm thinking perhaps the track layout change in comparison to the other versions (I noticed a big difference in the ride experience between USH and USS - and I prefer the USS version by a country mile.

Yeah, I thought the USS version of the Mummy Ride was pretty short, but apparently it is way better than the USH version as it had to fit in the place where the ET ride used to be. I think USS's roof of fire (BBQ grill) thing is a bit weak, otherwise it's a pretty good edition. I can't see how they could have changed it much.

Apparently USH has also just altered its Waterworld show so it's more like the USS version too. I didn't even know there was a difference.

the major difference that stands out to me (considering it's been 4 years since I rode USS version and 1 year since USH) is the animatronic 'mummy' halfway through (just before the on-ride photo) at USS that broke the ride up a bit, and made it a bit longer... there was just so much more detail across the board, and the ending actually made sense - it wasn't just that you were suddenly returned to the station without 'closure' of sorts.

Well the track layout is the same to USO's (except for theming) but hugely different to USH's. USH's mummy just has a straight up launch and then slow backwards section, USS's and USO's have a much better layout by having the backwards section first and then the faster, more extensive launched section.

Both are good but USO's/USS's are definitely the best.

Both 'Dejiki' and 'Luke and the Temple of Fun' have visited USS recently. They've reported on the new Minion Mart and the Easter Celebrations happening around the park this weekend. Good to see that they are not using chocolate Easter Eggs in their hunt - which would last about two minutes under the Singapore sun. The creepy Egg lord on the other hand...

Interesting picture posted @ Luke and the Temple of Fun of the back corner of USS - it gives you a pretty good idea of how much room they have to play with for their new family attraction.

Dejiki has posted some nice pictures of the recent Easter festivities that have swept the park.

On what is quickly becoming scaffolding month @ Parkz, Luke and the Temple of Fun appears to be playing spot the difference with his Battlestar Galactica photos.

I'm looking forward to my next visit there in July.

Visited USS today. Dejiki reported on it overnight, but it looks like the new family attraction could be a Vekoma suspended coaster, with light green track(Shrek?). They're not going to have a lot of room and it does seem to be a little bit of an odd choice, considering that the Canopy Flyer is not too far away.

On the otherside of the park, Battlestar Galactica is still hidden behind scaffolding. Obviously, they want to keep whatever is happening on the red side away from prying eyes.
