2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more

I noticed on DWs park map that the motor coaster is no longer labelled as MDMC, but Honda Motorcoaster (or has it said that for a while and I just haven't noticed). Could this link to what is coming this Summer.

Hi this is my first message on forums

I noticed this on my map as well and it's only just come up on there new maps and it also is saying in the what's new section on the map, We're revved up, new motor sport attractions launching this summer perhaps redline could not only be being refurbished but moved into river town and theme the Motocoaster to it and while they are at it they can give the Motocoaster a bit of TLC as they seem to be doing up the whole park. First re-painting main street plaza, DW corroboree, doing up ocean parade and changing nick central and now ABC kids world and there is also work going on in the town of gold rush with eureka mine ride probably for town of gold rushes 30 year next year.

So was chatting to DW reception staff this afternoon for a bit about random park gossip and what not... they haven't heard anything regarding Eureka, but seemed very sceptical about the mine ride reopening due to the extensive costs involved. However, they said the speculation about the Cyclone getting a new train and a facelift at the end of the year sounds fairly legit and they wouldn't be surprised if that went ahead.

I brought up the new V8 attractions coming for summer, surprisingly enough they had no idea about them (despite the big promotional ad in the new park maps :huh:). They agreed that the Peter Brock car display would more than likely be making its new home at Dreamworld, since the park already has V8 related attractions and also is the Aussie theme park of the lot. We were speculating over maybe the old 'blue lagoon' water park area being a possible site for them, given the big cemented areas and already established toilets/kiosks in that section of the park.

They also confirmed that Big Brother's days are well and truly over, the house has apparently since been completely gutted. Who knows what the future has in store for that section of land, but it's huge and all owned by Dreamworld, so chances are the park will expand out that way in the near future if/once the house is knocked down???

They could always keep the Big Brother House and use it for a GOOD themed roller coaster???

The auditorium is also not enclosed. It's basically a big undercover area/stage with fixed seating.

 

certainly not a viable option for a ride, and the actual big brother house is surprisingly small when you see it first hand (everything looks bigger on tv!).

you can write off any of those areas being untilised

Well they don't only have that pile of land to use theirs the Mississippi river and it's island as well as some of the old thunderbolt site.

Something what I thought would be cool in the old blue lagoon area is a boat ride (like the Bermuda triangle) and put it though the blue lagoon mountain and make the auditorium the station we all know that the 2 water rides what are there are some of the most popular rides in the a 3 water ride would be even better.

This has been mentioned many times but Dreamworld no longer owns the land where the Big Brother house is located.

 

“Ardent Leisure Group (AAD) today advises that the Group has entered into a contract to sell surplus land to the north of the Group’s Dreamworld site in Coomera, QLD to the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) for a sale price of $16.5 million in line with book value.  The settlement of the sale is anticipated to occur in January 2010 upon the issue of a separate land title. Of the sale price a sum of $11.5 million will be paid upon settlement with the balance of $5 million deferred for 12 months.  The parcel includes land zoned for Town Centre Core under the Coomera Structure Plan.

Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Greg Shaw advised: “The sale is an important step for the Group.  In the short term, sale proceeds will be utilized to further strengthen the balance sheet and provide additional capacity for organic growth opportunities as they emerge. The sale of the land and its anticipated development will ultimately create a connection between Dreamworld, the Coomera Town Centre retail component and the Coomera rail/bus transport hub. This connection will provide enhanced public transport access to Dreamworld and White Water World for our Brisbane and Gold Coast patrons.”

Ardent Leisure Group is a specialist operator of leisure and entertainment assets across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.  The Group operates Dreamworld, white Water World, d’Albora Marinas, AMF and Kingpin bowling centres and Goodlife fitness centres across Australia and New Zealand.  The Group also operates the Main Event family entertainment centres in the United States.”

 

Dreamworld has been leasing the land for Big Brother house since they sold the land for the new Coomera Town Centre.

 

1.      Dreamworld land

2.      Land was approved as an overflow carpark when stage 3 for White Water World was going ahead.  DW cleared the land ready for the carpark.  When stage 3 fell over it was left to overgrow again.

3.      See number 2

4.      This land was part of the sale but was later removed because the Queensland Government wanted the buyers to hand over the land along the existing creek to them.  From memory it was 10m each side of the creek.  I don’t think DW will ever be able to develop this land as the Government is now calling the creek a tidal area.

5.      Land sold for new Town Centre. Note: Big Brother House is located on it.

6.      Koala feed.  This is DW plantation for the gum leaves.

Why do they need an overflow car park anyway, shortly after whitewater world was completed did they re-do the car park so it would hold enough cars to cater for whitewater world and Dreamworld, they should've of sold any of there land anyway it just gives them less room to expand the park. Isn't that why Sydney's wonderland closed cause they didn't have expansion room and went broke.

Dreamworld always had that land marked for the Coomera Town Centre.  Dreamworld tried for years to build on the land but the direction Dreamworld wanted to take it was not what the governments had planned for that parcel of land.

 

In short Dreamworld wanted it to be more like a Downtown Disney but government wanted it to be more like Robina Town Centre.

I have always thought Dreamworld wouldn’t do anything around the Coomera Town Centre site before it is completed.  It’s always been my speculation that once the town centre is finished then Dreamworld will expand towards it as it has always been DW intention to create a new entry to DW from the train station side.

 

DW has played around with some attractions being open at night and I think this will happen once again but from the Town Centre side.

have you ever been to DW in the middle of the xmas holidays? The Carpark can and does get full. A further expansion bringing increased peak visitation would likely require further car parks.

 

wonderland's closure had absolutely nothing to do with a lack of land to expand upon. There's plenty of sources of info on Wonderlands closure so I won't post the reasonings here, just google it, but they had plenty of land available.
