As most people have been to a park once or twice this year and some further than others thought I would ask what everyone would consider their favourite coasters for the past year. It is entirely up to you if you rank them from 1 - 10.

In no particular order my 10 favourites for this year are

Twisted Colossus
Superman Ultimate Flight (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)
Tatsu
Medusa (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)
Matterhorn Bobsleds (Disneyland)
Gold Striker (California's Great America)
Superman Escape
Joker (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)
Flight Deck (California's Great America)
X2

I've been on Manta in 2014 but not on Mako.  Tell us what was good about Mako.

I really enjoyed Mako. I was lucky enough to re-ride plenty. I think I rode it about 25 times on my last trip.

My favourite type of coasters are ones filled with airtime, and Mako was pretty great in that department. A bit meh after the MCBR, and the trims hit pretty hard. The seats are amazing, and you can really keep your lap-bar loose to enjoy that great floater airtime! The fly into the MCBR was weird, as I was still in the air and would almost hit the lap-bar midair.

I met up with a few friends who live in the States and have about 350 credits. Mako for them ranks in the top 10 for similar coasters (I believe), but not "amazing". I've done a lot of coasters on a TPR trip in 2010, including the two Intimidators. From memory Mako is far from the best, but a solid coaster for airtime and my favourite one from this year. I plan on doing a big coaster trip next year, so will be interesting to compare with Mako.

For this year, I'd list, in no particular order

- Fury 325/Carowinds
- Wildfire/Kolmarden
- Wicked Cyclone/Six Flags New England (awful operations but great coaster)
- Twisted Colossus/Six Flags Magic Mountain
- Storm Chaser/Kentucky Kingdom
- Taron/Phantasialand
- Valravn/Cedar Point
- Screaming Condor/Leofoo Village
- Lost Gravity/Walibi Holland
- Flying Aces/Ferrari World

Not quite sure what 2017 is going to bring in terms of coasters right now. We'll see.

  • The Dragon
  • Hair Raiser (rough as guts for a B&M...)

You found Hair Raiser rough? I didn't find it that rough, however that might be because that's the only B&M I've ridden. The track rattled a little bit though!

Was that 10 the only coasters you rode overseas, because I'm surprised to see Dragon make the list. I had a giant bruise on my face after the side of my face hit the OTSR during the helix. For those who haven't done Dragon, think Cyclone with the old trains but heaps worse.

I didn't get to do a whole lot this year. The only real parks I went to Sydney Easter Show, Magic Mountain in Merimbula (which has a small Pinfari Zyklon) and finally LPS.

1. Wild Mouse (LPS)

2. Crazy Spinning Mouse (Easter show)

3. Diamond Python (Magic Mountain)

4. Taipan (Easter show)

A pretty depressing list, hopefully I can check out the new coaster at Movie World next year.

I didn't ride too many coasters this year, and barely enough new to me ones to fill out a decent top ten:

Not in qualitative order, best new ones:

1. Abyss (Adv World)  2. Gold striker (Cali Great Am)   3. Flight Deck (Cali Great Am)  4. Superman (Discovery Kingdom)  5. Joker (new, Disc. King.)   6. Medusa (Disc. King.)  7. Big Dipper (Santa Cruz)  8.  Vertical Velocity (Disc. King.)   9. Ghostrider (refurb'ed version new to me), 10.  Flight of the Hippogriff (Uni Hollywood)
