Australian Coasters Ranked

Seeing as how there's a few discussions going on comparing specific coasters I thought it'd be interesting to see in what order the people here would rank the coasters of Australian theme parks from Best to Worst. (I did a quick search to see if there was a topic like this already and couldn't see one so forgive me if there is and I missed it.)

My list is a bit lacking as I've not been to Seaworld since it got its two newest coasters, haven't ever been to Perth and my opinion on Arkham Asylum is based on the ride before it got the new restraints, however I'll amend the list once I visit Movie World later this year and ride it again.

1. Superman Escape
2. Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster
3. Green Lantern Coaster
4. Escape From Madagascar
5. Hot Wheels Sidewinder
6. Buzzsaw
7. Tower of Terror II
8. Road Runner Roller Coaster
9. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster

Might do a list including now defunct coasters too, but it might be hard to reconcile such old memories with newer experiences, nostalgia tends to make things seem better than they actually were sometimes.

Gotta love having my topic called dumb! Yay Parkz forum! Seriously I searched like half a dozen permutations of the title of this thread to look for something similar but I guess I missed the many posts like this before? Whatever, I'm drunk right now so if this is a seriously egregious forum topic than delete it, I was just trying to make conversation.

1. Superman
2. Abyss (have not ridden it myself but I've heard enough good reviews to put it at #2)
3. ToTII
4. Arkham
5. Jet Rescue
6. Buzzsaw
7. Scooby
8. Surfrider
9. Green Lantern
10. Storm
11. Hot Wheels

Leaving out kiddie coasters and travelling rides

Of course this will most likely change by September this year ;)

On the other hand since we're doing it I might as well do my top flat rides, since I enjoy some of these more than many of the coasters on the list:

1. Giant Drop
2. Batwing
3. The Claw
4. Wipeout
5. Doomsday
6. Pandamonium
7. Tail Spin

I'm not going to rank every coaster, but here's my top 10 (ranking not set in stone):

  1. Superman
  2. Jet Rescue
  3. Abyss
  4. Green Lantern
  5. Storm Coaster
  6. Hot Wheels
  7. Tower of Terror
  8. Surfrider
  9. Mick Doohan
  10. Scooby Doo (for ride itself; theming gets it a few spots higher)

That's one crazy ranking order.

^C'mon people are entitled to their own preferences.

This thread is worth doing periodically to add new coasters, re-assess improvement to existing ones (Arkham has improved with the new restraints  etc), and that people may have ridden more Oz coasters (like me). Here's what I've been on:

  1. Superman Escape
  2. Abyss
  3. Jet Rescue
  4. Scooby Doo
  5. Green Lantern
  6. Arkham Asylum
  7. Wild Mouse (LPS)
  8. Buzzsaw
  9. Tower of Terror 2
  10. Scenic Rallway
  11. Surfrider
  12. Hot Wheels Sidewinder
  13. Storm Coaster
  14. Escape From Madagascar
  15. Mick Doohan's Slumber Coaster
  16. Road Runner Coaster
  17. Dragon Express
  18. Jungle Twist

6. Hot Wheels

7. Storm Coaster (again it's been ages so taking a punt)

8. Green Lantern

9. Scooby Doo

10. MDMC (I guess to round out 10)

@ash.1111 am I reading correctly that you have Surf rider (and MDMC!) above Scooby & Arkham?? Wowsers..

I agree it's probably not what many would agree with. But I favour short and fun coasters over those that are uncomfortable. Scooby for its drops that really can be quite harsh. If you add back in the theming on Scooby, it's up there, but right now that's in limbo...

Not to gloat, but I've ridden quite a few coasters overseas so I've definitely experienced all sorts of coasters that are forceful, fun, thrilling, conformable and not so much. I have little patience for coasters that I deem uncomfortable.

Before you judge mine, I've never been to Melbourne, Perth or the Sunshine Coast, so I'm excluding those coasters from my rankings, as I really don't know what they're like:

1. Superman Escape
2. Green Lantern
3. Tower of Terror II
4. BuzzSaw
5. Jet Rescue
6. Storm Coaster
7. Scooby-Doo
8. Wild Mouse (LPS)
9. SurfRider
10. Arkham Asylum
11. Hot Wheels
12. Road Runner
13. Escape from Madagascar
14. Motocoaster
15. Diamond Python (Merimbula)

HONOURABLE MENTIONS: the toboggan slides at Big Banana and Merimbula. Although they don't technically count as coasters, they're still better than some of the rides on this list.

Here's mine:

  1. Superman Escape
  2. Tower of Terror
  3. Abyss
  4. Green Lantern
  5. Hot Wheels
  6. Buzzsaw
  7. Scooby Doo
  8. Corkscrew
  9. Arkham
  10. Jet Rescue
  11. The old Jetstar 2 AW used to have, forgot the name
  12. Wild Mouse (Both)
  13. Cyclone
  14. Runaway Reptar (Madagascar)
  15. Sea Viper
  16. Roadrunner
  17. Surfrider
  18. Dragon Express
  19. MDMC

And for flats:

  1. Hair Raiser (Underrated ride IMO)
  2. Giant Drop
  3. Black Widow
  4. Claw
  5. Ranger
  6. Tango Train
  7. Wipeout
  8. Tailspin
  9. Batwing
  10. Pandamonium (Ride is like the theme park equivalent of dog shit)

MDMC is the most uncomfortable ride in Australia.  Nobody would want to sit on this and have a tea party.

I could be wrong but I think @Slick may have forgotten to include it..

Myself, I haven't bothered to play this game. Personal opinions aside, how can one impartially rate our Coasters in a 'top10'?

If you are into immersive experiences and value for time spent waiting then SDSC will likely be your #1. If speed and adrenaline is your thing then TOT or SE are your pick and you would also rate JR highly. If you like chaotic thrills by being flung around every which way AA is your winner with GL and HWSW up there and if enjoying the ride with your family and children it could be SDSC and Storm with JR and HWSW also topping your list. Then of course we have the junior coaster options for the very young to enjoy.

End of the day, we all have our own opinions and the best thing is we have such a great collection of coaster experiences to enjoy and help round out a full day of small to big thrills that keep every age group and demographic happy.

I didn't think the thread suggested that it was meant to be impartial - i took it just as 'what's your top 10?'

I haven't really contributed to this either mainly because i don't really consider our coasters in a 'ranking' situation - i appreciate each for what they are - although when a direct coaster to coaster comparison is made - i can always see which one i'd prefer, i don't think it would translate to a definitive top ten.
