Brilliant @Skeeta thanks for the update!! The Sunshine Coast is certainly coming along nicely!! Couple the opening of this with the announced Aussie World expansion, throw in Australia Zoo and the other attractions that the Sunshine Coast has to offer, it is certainly building up to be a viable alternative to the Gold Coast!

The Bruce has seemingly forever been a bit of a mess - not only for the Sunshine Coast/Brisbane region but all the way up the State.

There continues to be a lot of roadworks from beyond North Lakes and whenever it's a long weekend or start of a Holiday Period the Traffic flow going up is shocking from Brisbane and again when the tide flows back the other way before the working week starts again. I would hate to be living on the Sunny Coast and working in Brisbane but it seems many People are! It's been this way for about as long as I can remember.

The area of road around the Redcliffe turn off is just about finished now and it's looking like much of the stretch back to the Gateway motorway will be wrapped up by the end of the year

The plan is for 3 lanes either side and here is a snip of the Media release from May this year:

Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports and Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Works begin on transforming the Bruce from Caloundra to Sunshine Motorway

  • First sod turned on the $929.3 million Caloundra to Sunshine Motorway upgrade
  • Over 40,000 motorists estimated to use the Sunshine Motorway interchange and the Caloundra Road interchange daily
  • Upgrade will feature Australia’s first Diamond Interchange

Major construction has officially commenced on the $929.3 million Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway project, which will increase safety and ease congestion for around 40,000 motorists who use the route daily.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester and State Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey were on the Sunshine Coast today to turn the first sod for this much-needed highway upgrade.

Mr Chester said the project was part of the Australian Government’s record $75 billion commitment to essential airport, road, and rail infrastructure projects.

“Upgrading the Bruce Highway is a priority project of the Australian Government’s infrastructure roll out, evidenced by the $844 million allocated in this year’s budget for new projects,” Mr Chester said.

“This upgrade will provide nearly 700 direct jobs, and project works will include transforming the Caloundra Road Interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange – a first for Australia.

Google tells me it took us 1hr 26mins to get from Mooloolaba to Costco, then 53 minutes to get from there to the south side of Brisbane. Not sure if that's a decent travel time for Bruce but it didn't seem terrible. (This was on a Monday at 10am)

Time for an update.

Skeet is starting to get funny feelings inside one’s body about ACTVENTURE.

On the 4th of September 2017 Sanad Capital released an update:

SANAD Capital today received Sunshine Coast Council approval to begin bulk earthworks on its recently revealed active lifestyle destination, ACTVENTURE. The Sunshine Council approved the work on 4th September 2017, and SANAD immediately commenced preparations to engage local contractors to begin moving earth as soon as possible. Tenders went out last week to six civil contractors based on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane, who will submit their bids to complete the bulk earthworks for the entire site.

“We have gone to tender and are in the final stages of completing the bidding process, which will begin the critical work of laying down the foundations of Australia’s most exciting tourism and entertainment project in years.”The bulk earthworks will entail around 150,000 cubic metres of cut and fill, including a new lagoon area and the beautification of the existing waterways, and immediate preparations for Stage 1 of construction, and all future stages.

The four-phase, 24-hectare project will include in its first phase, a state of the art water park, and a great lawn for major events, concerts, and community activities. The world’s first ACTVENTURE Tower will provide thrill seekers with adrenaline pumping activities such as bungee jumping, freefalling, human slingshot, ziplines and more. The outdoor adventure park will offer activities including aerial bike monorail, dinner in the sky, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, flyboarding, electric skateboarding, and zorb soccer, to name but a few. The initial phase will also include a 6,000 square metre retail and restaurant precinct.

ACTVENTURE, when completed, is expected to add AUD260 million in economic benefit to the Sunshine Coast economy or AUD60 million per year of construction.Phase two of ACTVENTURE, will consist of a four-star, 220-room family hotel, with conferencing services, and Phase 3, an action sports precinct with world-class BMX and skateboarding facilities, plus a huge indoor sport’s training center with parkour, gymnastics and more. Post construction, the study shows employment of over 830 full-time employees on-site and flow-on employment benefits during the operational phase in the wider community equating to 640 full-time equivalent positions.

On the 30th of January 2018 Sanad Capital released an update:

Three Sunshine Coast contractors in the running for multi-million dollar bulk earthworks contract.

ACTVENTURE is currently in the final stages of negotiating the bulk earthworks contract for its Sunshine Coast development site. The multimillion contract will entail a 150,000 cubic meter cut and fill project, including carving out a large lagoon and terraforming its surrounding area. The existing waterways will be sculpted to maintain their natural beauty and fully maintaining green areas. Three Sunshine Coast contractors are on the short list and a final decision is expected soon.

On the 19th of April 2018 Sanad Capital released an update:

Works on Site Inevitable with Tenders Close to Decision

Sanad Capital talks about the accommodation on the proposed site has changed from a hotel to a place you can camp:

Master Developer SANAD have today announced concept plans for an innovative leisure park to be built on their 25ha ACTVENTURE site at Steve Irwin Way. The news comes after the recent demolishing of a large mural shed branded with ACTVENTURE from the site, sparking excitement in the local community that construction will commence soon.

SANAD's Board and Masterplanners have been working on an initial concept for the leisure park set to cover 8ha of the site, and the design will draw upon inspiration from glamping destinations across the globe.

Recent hospitality and economic demand research by Sanad’s local and international consultants revealed strong demand for an innovative new leisure park facility on the Sunshine Coast. Luxury camping has become increasingly popular.

Area within red line was the hotel accommodation but is now shown as camping accommodation.

I believe only by what Sand Capital have been up to over the past 6 months, Sand Capital are still chancing the funds to build ACTVENTURE.  (This is only my opinion)

It wouldn't surprise me if Stage 1 the water park, became stage 3.  Two good points to mention with this project are ACTVENTURE own the land and all council approvals have been finalised.  ACTVENTURE is already two more steps ahead of Wonderland 2.0.

On a side note, how far is it from the car park to the water park?  I would hate to drag little Jonny back to the car after a long day at the park.

SanCap Finance, the company mandated by ACTVENTURE to facilitate the capital structuring for their $450m integrated tourism resort on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast have disclosed a $30m underwriting agreement has been secured with an Asian investment group. SanCap is an adjunct of SANAD, the master developer for the project.

The announcement comes after SANAD last week revealed concept plans for an 8ha leisure park on the Steve Irwin Way site, which will draw inspiration from glamping destinations across the globe and provide a mix of cabins, powered sites and glamping tents.

SanCap have a mandate to assist with the total financial requirements for ACTVENTURE, which will consist of around $30m equity and a $120m debt facility to complete Stage One.
Bradley P. Sutherland, CEO of ACTVENTURE said “finalising the $30m underwriting agreement is a landmark achievement for the project as it enables us to move swiftly with negotiations for the $120m construction facility to take Stage One to financial close”.

Furthermore, Sutherland said “with the International interest in ACTVENTURE we had last year on our Asian Roadshow we look forward to the IAAPA Asian Attractions Expo in Hong Kong to cement relationships”.

Drove past today (in a surprisingly successful bid to use Steve Irwin Way to avoid the Bruce Highway Sunday mess). The place looks just as it does above... except the fence with the banner is now overgrown with creeping vine weeds, and the cleared out land is weed-ridden and untouched.
