@Adam C I believe MI4 is still coming for 2019/2020 season. Personally as with MI1-3 I doubt we will hear much if anything until after the park has closed for the season. My personal opinion is either a Lazy River around the front of the park or another massive pro-slide next to Kraken. However we will have to wait and see.

@Tim Dasco and I headed down to AW last Saturday to see if any rumours he’d heard were true. First up, the entrance to the park had changed, with shade sails erected in front of the main gate. It’s a good idea for people waiting to get in, but it certainly changes the look.

The Surf Shack had new pink ropes for its queue race, with silly sayings at the start and end. The animal area still isn’t open. Despite there being a sign telling us the area is under renovation, no work seems to have been done. We did see keeper Amie rescuing a bird from a tree. It does seem to be the end for this area. Tim noticed that the entry building had been painted on the outside, but not the inside.

The park was quite busy as the weather was quite warm. We still had fairly short queues (the longest being Kraken at around 15 minutes).

There were plenty of new food stalls and extra shade up for what looked to be a corporate fun day. With extra portable lights in the car park, the park appeared to be staying open that night for a private event(still no news on Fright Nights or its replacement).

Black Widow has a new sign. The tea cups seem to be getting a permanent covering and new water fountains have been completed.

The Buccaneer Battle pool had a new ridge built, which looks to help keep the sand out. The biggest difference we noticed was in the old moat to the castle’s island. It has been completely cleaned out and some repairs have been made to the wall. If they’re think of building a lazy river down there, it would be an extremely cool place to do it.

Coasters typically run polyurethane or nylon. It is entirely possible each car has a different combination of 'fast' or 'slow' wheels which might be impacting the roughness you're experiencing.

In short, slight variations to each car may mean every car has a slightly different combination of each wheel type for optimal performance.

Coaster 101 says it best:

Quote

There are advantages and disadvantages for each type. The nylon wheel is a hard plastic while the polyurethane is a softer material. Nylon wheels vibrate a little more and put more wear into the track, making it a rougher ride but also results in a little bit faster of a ride. Polyurethane is a softer material and reduces the vibration, providing a smoother ride. It provides more friction and slows the ride down due to a higher rolling resistance. The speed of the coaster can be affected by mixing and matching wheels, which parks may do in order to keep the ride running within its specified performance window. To achieve a perfect balance between all of the demanding requirements requires a  lot of testing.

https://www.coaster101.com/2011/10/24/coasters-101-wheel-design/

It's also just entirely possible that as the wheels, bearings and track heat up with usage, and with sunlight, the ride experience can also differ from ride to ride across the course of a day as heat expansion absorbs the tolerances built in by the manufacturer (and is why on extremely hot days, Abyss is shut down).

Went to the first AW Nights for 2019 on Saturday night. @Tim Dasco and I spent a bit of time chatting to Ross, the general manager. We learnt a few things that can be repeated:

Fright Nights should be held in February. The animal area will be reopening soon.

The park was busier early, but as the temperature dropped so did the crowd. Abyss was about a ten minute wait and the Grand Prix about 15 minutes. There was a DJ in one part of the park and a rumba band near the gate.

Had a interesting trip today.

I can in no way fault Goliath. Walking up to it, the Gyro swing did not appear to be all that big (my first visit since it opened). However, being the first rider in the line and getting on the first cycle, I was completely amazed by how high this thing makes you go, how much airtime you can get and how fast you feel swinging back down. You'd almost get an inverting sensation if you were in the right spot. At peak the line got about 45 minutes minutes long, or roughly 5 or 6 cycles before you could ride.

Noticed little themed doors in these trees on the walkway from dragons kingdom to the outback animal area. These were such an awesome inclusion that shows the great attention to detail AW has strived to maintain.

As stated by Iwerks, the animal area is closed. Animal enclosures were obviously empty, with construction vehicles dotted around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't notice any significant changes to the enclosures or enclosure walkways. If it weren't for @iwerks previous post, I wouldn't have thought the animal area wouldn't actually reopen, as imo, the work, upkeep and constant need to update the area simply isn't worth it as it's relatively unknown and unvisited by the GP, or as per my observations.

The removal of the Rampage and or Inferno really wouldn't come as a great surprise to me. Inferno because of the lack of ridership (the maximum ride wait was about 1 ride cycle, or 5 minutes) and the constant trouble they have finding the Huss maintenance parts. Inferno has a new ride cycle too: shot and drop, shot and drop, shot and drop, slow lift controlled drop. Rampage was so empty they had to literally run 3-5 people cycles at 1pm in the afternoon. I don't think that's very worthwhile tbh

The abyss has become so much of a head banger that one ride in front and back was enough for me. I rode car 1 and car 3, both of which were horribly rough and gave my mate and I a headache. It was almost like Deja Vu of when I rode HWSW. I don't think a 5 year old ride should be that rough! Are all Gerstlauer coasters like that?

Kraken was awesome, but as per usual, being the deservedly most popular ride in the park, the line was about 45-60 minutes long all day.

All other water rides were also busy, with a 31 degree day pretty nice to get soaked in.

The old site of the castle has had zero work done on it, as far as as I could see, other then the castle demolition. There is a locked gate where the entrance to the castle was, and the bridge that would take you over the 'moat' and to the castle is used as what I assume a storage area for the construction/temporary fencing (there were several construction fences stacked on said bridge, with a white and green plastic cover). Under the bridge lay a bobcat (CONSTRUCTION MACHINE) in the dried up semi circular tube that that circles the castle and was the moat. From my observations, if it were to be cleaned up, it could perfectly and ironically fit a lazy river. That's if they were to remove the build up of crap such as branches and leaves everywhere. AW have almost tried to hide the island by letting brush overgrow, convincing the GP that there is nothing there.

P.S. sorry that there are no pictures. For some unknown reason I couldn't upload them from my camera to my Mac 😕

Just now, iwerks said:

^We saw Rampage pretty much at capacity on Saturday night. The animal place should be safe for the time being. We kinda found out what happened to Inferno from Ross. It certainly explains why it hasn’t been down this season. Sounds like you had a good time on Goliath.

Rampage was pretty much empty all do. I did not at once see a full ride cycle, or anyone in the back row for that matter. What did Ross say was the issue with Inferno?

@Aw hype so in regards to Rampage they re painted it last season, and during this last off season they re did all the wiring, replaced the seating and put a new type of restraint system on it. Yes its an extreme ride and I personally find one ride is enough. But with the money spent on it I think it will be there for at least 5 years.

Now the island had been cleaned up over recent visits. It was quite over run with leave and has since been cleaned.

Since we were on the topic of the castle site and its future, read this excerpt from AW FB page on @iwerks website from a couple of years ago...

''It is with a heavy heart that today we will see the demolition of the iconic Adventure World Castle. A fire in November last year badly damaged the structure. But out of the ashes comes new & more exciting things so watch this space for future developments!"

Any thoughts as to if the end of this statement would ever become? Perhaps one of the Mi attractions were gonna go there?

Here is another excerpt from media website WA Today

Adventure World CEO Mark Shaw said the remains of the 31-year-old castle would be demolished when the park closes over winter and the area "made good"

So a few points from to recent visits:

AW Nights Saturday Night: Was very popular compared to last week. With a massive queue at the front of the park before the event had opened. The Goliath, Kraken queues both filled and over flowed and Abyss went down to the bottom queue race. The food trucks and band had been moved closer to the main lawn making the area feel more lively.

On my recent visit yesterday the park was fairly busy for a Monday and it was good to see Rampage running lots of full cycles. (Not happy being forced to go on it 3 times in a row tho. :( ) Its good to also see a new misting system up in the Kraken Queue line which does help keep people cool.

Misters were present when I went on the 8th

Good to see Rampage was actually running full cycles. I must've just gone on a weird day

Final night of AW Nights for the season was tonight. The car park was only half full and it wasn’t as crowded as last week. I didn’t manage to get there until after sunset. Rampage was down, but everything else was operating. The Grand Prix and Abyss had fairly lengthy queues of around 20 minutes. Our wait for Inferno was around 5 minutes. The food trucks and Kahuna Falls were doing really well. We did catch up with Ross a couple of times and shared some fries with him. Ross said that were surprised at how successful they were during the last couple of weeks with AW Nights. There were a few staff members conducting surveys too.

Busy day by the pool, today, with the temperature around the mid 30s. Goliath was out of action (although testing), Rampage is still down and tunnel of terror looked quiet. There were 10-15 minute queues on most things, which is manageable. They were also hosing the path down outside Kraken. Those misters on the queue line were great too. Luckily, I was there for rope drop and headed up soon afterwards.

Okay, can we get a specific thread for Adventure World updates? This topic hasn't been about MI4 in a long time. It's just turned into a photo dump for every time someone goes there.

If you're moderating, you could do it for us. 😉

Y’know, you’re gonna start pissing off a lot of people if you start having an attitude of “well you’re not a moderator so it doesn’t matter what you say”

No, im not moderating, @Richard won’t give me that much power. But I’m sure he would agree with me on my comment about the relevance of your posts in this thread turning it into an Adevnture World Mega Topic instead of its intended purpose which was to talk about MI4....

I’m sure Rich or another mod will happily let us know if the above is incorrect but that was my understanding of the forum guidelines around mega topics and derailing threads.

As opposed to what you do?

Shortest mega topic I've ever seen.  There's plenty of people talking about what Mi-4 might be anyway. This isn't a GC park where people whine on for 32 pages before the attraction is even open.

The Mods are free to divide this thread up into what they want. @Richard do your thing!

And what exactly is it that I do? Please, englighten me.

No there isnt? There was people talking about MI4 but none of the recent posts have been even slightly related to MI4

Yes, the Construction threads do garner a lot of attention, but that’s because there’s something to talk about, as opposed to people (you) who decided to use this thread to post a plethora of photos every time you visit the park without a single mention of MI4 or anything NEW coming to the park

And with those other threads, if they get jammed up with irrelevant crap, like this one is, a mod will eventually arrive and split it. They can’t be here 24/7 to make all the topics neat, so then it’s the job of the contributors to try and keep their posts in their relevant discussion topics.
