Tower of Terror 2 closing

Recommended Posts

Went to Dreamworld yesterday and there were about 7 people, in suites and tradie clothes on site at the TOT.  Spoke to 2 of them. There just waiting for this rain period to ease and then full steam ahead for removal. I also asked a sneaky “is the steam train coming back” interesting reply of “were working on it”

As expected, construction will be ramping up soon as containers would be well and truly on their way by now. The Corona issue is causing some delays with any cargo coming in requiring extra quarantine. When the back end of this cyclone passes, work should commence for bringing down the ToT tracks and new coaster. As for the train, well that's been a work in progress for years. It requires certification. Y'know who certifies steam trains these days? No one.

Unless Augustus Gloop is hiding in the containers why would a coaster track require extra quarantine?  A coaster can't get the virus and if somebody with the virus sneezed on the track it would be dead before it got here.

You know DW doesn't have the only steam train in Australia?

Yes, that still doesn't mean that containers aren't going through extra quarantine processes?

Ah yes, how many are there with a non operating steam train that needs to be certified before it can run? Also how many of those require them to be certified by someone who is certified in QLD?

What you’re saying just sounds dumb.  You're fully pinging my dumb radar right now.  What makes a "QLD" steam train certifier different from a “NSW” steam train certifier.  You’re telling me DW been getting specialist from all around the world to sigh off their rides, but a steam train can only be certified by a “QLD certifier”.

Boiler inspectors are different from state to state due to regulations. While the differences between the qualifications are indeed fairly limited it comes down to the different protocols and procedures between the states that make this the issue. The mechanical principles are all the same.

So blame the regulators for that.

There are two people in Queensland. The one Dreamworld has used before, and another.

There are three steps to certify after a major rebuild. Pressure test with cold water. Smoke leak test with a fire in the firebox, but no water in the boiler. Hot pressure test with water in the boiler and a fire in the firebox.

You are looking at around $5k per step to sign off. So $15k. Keep in mind, a steam boiler is a vessel containing water under extreme pressure and heat. So no cutting corners. The green QR Loco's (BB18 1/4) operate at 170 psi, so the boiling point of the water inside is 187 degrees celcius. The water would be hotter than that, to generate the steam required.

The ex Dreamworld Perry should be back on track, hopefully later this year or early next year. The Baldwin's condition varies depending on who you ask.

Because I have spoken to the company who are currently waiting for these containers to arrive that have been delayed because of the extra quarantine process.

You don't have to believe the truth. It's not my fault if you do a dumb and believe whatever you want.

QR had a boiler inspector, he sadly passed away last year. Right now, QR heritage is being left to rot. There have been no "Steam Train Sunday's" this year, and likely not to be. The only steam trips have been AHRS Qld hires of QR's trains.

QR only has one operational loco at Ipswich, to my knowledge. The C16 is still at Gympie, the AC16 Yank is in need of repair. BB18 1/4 1089 is operational, BB18 1/4 1079 might be (unsure). The Blue Baby DD17 project has been stopped, even though it was almost finished being restored, with a new welded boiler.

The docks might be running at a slowed pace because extra attention is been given to containers coming out of china but it doesn't mean the the coaster is under extra quarantine process.  2nd hand knowledge is not knowledge at all.

Oh, so the importing company waiting to receive these goods don't know what they are talking about either? Fuck you're thick today

Perfect. Then provide the list of the hundreds. Cause obviously I have no idea what I am talking about even tho I've actually worked with such machinery before.

Genuinely serious questions.

How many Steam Locomotive Boiler qualified inspectors do you know of active in Qld?
How many Steam Boiler qualified inspectors do you know of, active in Qld?

My understanding is that the boilers say in a hospital (if there are any left), are under different rules to locomotives.

So Qualified boiler inspectors I know of one in QLD. So in NSW, the difference between a locomotive boiler inspector and a boiler inspector is no different. But between a boiler inspector for a locomotive to marine is different I am told.

I know within the ones I've seen between loco's to road and stationary no massive difference exists for qualifications.

I said 2nd hand knowledge is not knowledge at all.   Unless you are the one working for the company you know nothing.
