Besides the paid fast passes the Disney genie does actually look really helpful and convenient.

Yeah I came to a similar conclusion myself - the rest of the app looks good - but if they're showing everyone in the park that the quietest time to ride X attraction is 2pm - that is suddenly not going to be the quietest time to ride... amirite?

Why would they ruin the Genie character like that?

Did you see the launch of Avengers Campus? They don't care.

This sums up Chapek's time at the head of the company - it's like Ian was speaking directly to him...

Yes, and they're saying that it will constantly update throughout the day, but that's going to be annoying too.

9am: Genie to 10,000 people: Flight of Passage is quiet at 2pm, you should go then!

10,000 People: OK!

10am: Genie to 10,000 people: Looks like 10,000 people plan to ride flight of passage at 2pm. you should go now to avoid the rush!

10,000 People: But... we're on the other side of the park!?

Genie: I said NOW dammit!

Have your best Disney day by constantly readjusting your plans throughout the day so you need to live on your device instead of in the moment in order to make sure you're constantly following Avatar: Robin Williams edition to the letter.

And putting the paid element aside, its been a long time coming - there are other (non disney) services out there that people have used in the past to monitor wait times, and plan out their vacation itinerary \ act as a travel guide, etc. Honestly i'm surprised it has taken Disney THIS long to actually produce something in house to put all the others cashing in on that void out of business.

The weird thing is, it's one of the most expensive apps out there. $15 a day for a bit of guest info that should be for free and ride bookings.

Village theme parks app does all that.

Pretty much of all the info such as wait time predictions etc is free and built into Genie, the Genie + service is the paid option which allows for the ride bookings/photopass photos at Disneyland and some audio tour of the park by Imagineers (OH BOY!).

VRTP will also charge you $20 to get on Rivals once and $40 for ride photos for a day so not a clear like to like comparison.

Indeed, since $20 on rivals is a full queue skip, not just a VQ.
