Arkham Asylum dismantling

Recommended Posts

Meanwhile back at Arkham.

It's pretty obvious nothing is happening anytime soon. Super odd. I know others have voiced this but why do VRTP love letting attraction SBNO. I understand you need to conduct cost evaluations and that but it is super odd.

Vikings, Mach 5, Arkham all sitting (not Mach 5 anymore!) for ages while people try to figure out what to do. I am going to say it also. If DW did this pitchforks come out and the town gets ready to burn them to the ground.

Management has known Arkhams age was catching up. It is not a great look at ANY park to leave things SBNO for ages. I really hope they have a future long term idea for this area of the park tho. I am sure they do. But they need to get a hurry on and try to figure out what that plan is.

They confirmed they are waiting on parts (lift hill related I believe) to arrive from overseas

Yeah a guy at Guest Services told me they were waiting on a replacement Chain and parts to modify/replace (he said replace but I dunno how that would work) the lift hill evac stairs.

I've not seen any work done on the stairs but if the chain is going in and they are re-opening maybe the evac stairs are waiting until next years downtime.

All our GC parks do this, and this forum is pretty evenly pissed at both companies for doing it.  I would say although individuals will show bias, both companies get roasted evenly for their SBNO efforts.

I recall someone explaining once it is a tax depreciation thing?

That is, they can claim the depreciation of the asset against their tax if it sits there, whereas if it is pulled down they loose that ability to claim.

I'm no tax agent, so don't know if that is correct or not.

That’s actually a very interesting take on things I hadn’t heard before!

Also it’s kind of laughable at this point right someone is asking for a source as to where the idea the ride was being removed came from.
Like sure they aren’t going to come out and confirm it, but that almost accusations email is a big cringe.

A 25yo ride would be fully depreciated by now. Likely the same for the 8yo upgrades.

Regardless, if there was any book value left then the asset impairment would reduce their taxable income. Doesn’t sound like a valid reason to me.

As I said, I have no actual idea, it's something I'm sure I saw on here once, thought someone may know tax law better than me ☺

Has been like that since August 3, worth mentioning though if only to counter the silly claims from the Sales/Support team.

Well clearly, the whole ride is down because the ride photo screens are broken and are away getting repaired. These are imported screens from germany, and parts are being delayed through customs. Plus the border lockdown is preventing the german technician from coming to Australia to fix it - because local tradespeople don't have the expertise to fix these specialised devices. They're not made of wood you know!

@Brendo88 oh but don’t worry, they aren’t removing it, they’re just doing some work on it

Seriously though, it will be a forever missed ride. A MW classic.

Yeah they have gone as far as removing it from the park map too. Curious as to why management said otherwise and why they wouldn't have made an announcement yet though?

"it's just down for maintenance. It's so far down for maintenance that even its map entry needs maintenance"

That seems unlikely my guess is that they will announce the ride to close after white Christmas then start demolition then start dropping hints about its replacement late next year then early 2022 they will announce the ride then begin construction and then the ride should realistically if all this happens in that time frame It should  open late 2022 or early 2023 don’t count me on that just guessing
