As you swing back and forth, activating the switch as close as possible to the midpoint causes you to spin. The closer you get, the more degrees of spinning you get.
Each board has a panel which tilts slightly when you shift your weight, and acts as a switch.

Storm G can spin 360 degrees from side to side in a barrel roll like motion.
There's a gratuitous amount of twisting and tumbling and inverting as you are taken on a jet ride over a city under attack by Decepticons.

This attraction uses "3D Sound" headphones. Coupled with the dark setting, it creates a highly convincing illusion of people walking around behind you etc.

There are simulators based on water, air, and land vehicles. Wild Jungle Brothers is the land based jeep one.
Wild Wing is one of a trio of fairly conventional simulators.
