There are two sets of seats, mounted at opposite ends. The ride spins 3 times in each direction, so for half the cycle you are being lifted over the top and spun headfirst towards the ground.

Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy Warner Bros. Movie World

Loading of the ride takes place in the room of requirement. The benches move along continuously and guests board on a moving conveyor belt, with the benches attached to the end of robotic arms that run along a track through the building. However this robotic mechanism is hidden from view behind a wall in the loading station. The result is 4 minutes of being tossed and turned and flipped through a chaotic dark ride in a manner normal tracked rides cannot achieve.
