Kanook put to rest

After a battle with her terminal kidney failure, Sea World's oldest polar bear was put down this afternoon.

Kanook came to Sea World with long-term behavioral pacing problems which amazingly ceased after only a few weeks at the Park, revealing to keepers that she was more than happy and at ease in her new home. She shares her innovative lodgings with male Polar bear Ping Ping who has been her companion for the past three years.

Kanook was initially diagnosed with the condition in April last year during a routine health check. At the time of diagnosis her general health was good and it was only required she be treated with intermittent steroids under the care of Sea World vets.

The remaining bears are Ping Ping, an eight year old male bear and the four year old Lia and Lutik.
