Scenic Railway Overview

Riders embark on a relatively slow journey down a steel railway track. With no restraints, this ride provides thrills that can't be found on modern rides.

The opening year is the year the railway was first put into service carrying coal. It didn't become a known tourist attraction until the 1930's.

The length of the ride is based on a one-way trip.
Originally a double-tracked incline railway (funicular) used to transport coal to the top of the mountain. When the depression left the mine unprofitable the owners set about converting it into a tourist attraction with the construction of the Mountain Devil (a replica of which can be seen at the base station of the Scenic Railway) in around 1933.

After numerous modifications to the system, it now safely takes tourists year round on the thrilling yet tranquil journey.
The steepest incline railway in the world at 52º.
