The original heart of Efteling, the "Fairytale Forest" features various scenes from well known fairytales, including:

- The Gardener and the Fakir

- The Frog Prince
- Pinocchio
- Sleeping Beauty
- The Six Servants
- The Chinese Nightingale
- Rumpelstilskin
- The Little Match Girl
- Rapunzel
- Hansel and Gretel
- The Little Mermaid
- The Wee Wee Messenger
- Little Red Riding Hood
- The Troll King
- The Naughy Princess.
The area also features a small outdoor theatrer, and other Efteling icons such as the Water Lillies,the long necked "Langnek" man, and the magic clock.
The original forest was designed by Dutch illustrator Anton Pieck.
