The Parkz Update: Dreamworld, May 29 2011

For this Parkz Update we made a quick stop over at Dreamworld to check out construction of their Maurer Söhne X-Coaster.

Dreamworld's car park has become home to plenty of steel recently.
The parts here will form the support structure to Dreamworld's X-Coaster, currently under construction near Thunder River Rapids and the old chairlift station.
The supports are painted in a dark maroon colour. It'll remain that colour once the ride is built.
Maurer Söhne... proud builders of the X-Coaster.
There steel structure will come together as a dense lattice, necessary to support the overhanging track.
These smaller L-shaped beams will form the bulk of the latticework.
Don't let the sheer volume of supports that are currently on-site, this ride will a very compact coaster.
As supports arrive, work is underway on the footings.
The orange fencing forms the outer perimeter of the construction site. Essentially the ride has a long rectangular footprint thatfits into the narrow gap between Thunder River Rapids (the blackish concrete tunnel in this photo) and the carpark.
Plenty of concreting still remains.
Some more supports. This time u-shaped!
The far end of the construction site as seen from the park entrance.
It's fair to say that with a ~60m coaster next door, the days of Dreamworld's helicopter flights are long gone.
The Dreamworld entrance is looking nice.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for the area a few metres to the right.
This sad corner with rotting wood faded paint is generally the last thing guests see as they leave the park.
It doesn't exactly contribute positively to the atmosphere of the park.
