Any guest who tries to stand up and brushes the bars causes a sensor to stop the ride, and gets a stern talking to from the operator.
Part of the switch to Hafema rafts involved the retrofit of a walk on loading belt.
The ride previously used a unique raft design from Vekoma. When it came time to replace the rafts, Vekoma had since ceased making that product, so Hafema was used instead.

The ride takes place in this chamber, with the room rotating around riders. The ride system is actually quite simple, with the room being contained in a drum, driven by rollers.

Merlin's Magic Castle is a Vekoma mad house attraction.
The ride had its debut in 1994 and the design was evidently a success, with a whopping 9 SLCs opening the following year around the globe.
