  1. Ha! Nothing sucks more than being stuck on the claw in the pouring rain for ~10 minutes until what I assume was a supervisor came and manually released us. (I'm guessing it was just unbalanced. She just rotated it a bit.)
Happens quite a bit with that one, but Im pretty sure that just what happens when they have to come and restart the ride. Sometimes its when an operator uses the autostop function, sometimes its just a computer fault, but I know for a fact that it does the same thing (the lil rotation hooha) when the engineers start the ride up every morning. So meh. Funny thing about Tower, I remember when one of the launch motors blew (or faulted or something), they were lucky it was early friday morning and they were able to get a cherry picker out that day to repair it. They had just returned the cherry picker late that afternoon only to have the other motor do the same thing at like 5 to 5. So the ride was down all weekend waiting to be fixed. If youre ever on Motocoaster these days you will notice that they now have one permanently parked underneath for use on Moto, Tower and Hydrocoaster.
  2. Managed to snap a quick photo of it testing today on my phone for you guys (i.e Mega Crap Quality and Poor shot.. didnt have a lot of time). Yeh its been testing and ironing out kinks for the last few days. They took the crash test dummies out today.. Here are some quick facts I found out. Ride Classification: Moderate Thrill Ride Min. Rider Height: 110cm Max Weight: 125kg per Carriage Open Date: Friday 20th June.

  3. Just to throw my two cents in.. I havent noticed a change in the wipeout cycle in the last couple of years. I watch it pretty damn often, have for quite some time, and I dont think the cycle has changed. When it went down for its 07 maintenance, they replaced and refurbished a few parts so maybe this made a noticable change to the ride experience.

  4. I think its too early to be counting them as a write off for the rest of the year just yet. Remember, we are only just heading towards half way through the year, and the new financial year starts shortly, which means new budgets. Who knows what might happen. Personally, im just gonna sit back and see what shiny toy they pull out of the hat to keep people interested this time.

  5. The last couple of weeks the evictee of the week before has been in the park on sunday at 11am and 3pm, just outside the central cafe bar, where they have the area that they use for school dance groups and bands and stuff. In the park on the day they have a sign telling you when and where.

  6. Just a quick update.. Havent had a chance to grab any photos but oh well.. The core of the ride is in, and the arms have all been attached, And now the operator console building is in. Its starting to pull together.. The Sponge (gondolas?) are inside the temporary fencing.. obviously to be attached sometime this week. The wall behind the ride has been painted to look like jellyfish fields, and is nice and bright at least. Thats all for now.

  7. Wipeout was hardly running all day, they said they needed 20 riders to actually run the ride, but no one was volunteering, and I certainly wasn’t.
Wipeout has been like that for the last week. The last couple of days particularly has been abysmal with gaps of up to 90 mins between cycles.. then you might get two or three cycles, then another 60-90 min gap. Today being the exception with constant cycles on and off all day.
  8. alright mate thats enough from you, dont be an idiot
I dont think hes being an idiot at all. Hes stating frustration at you're over excessive posting of the same thing over and over again. Were not a bunch of rude ignorant people.. Im sure if someone had the photos you were asking for, they would share them.
  9. I dunno, Surely intamin would have learned a lot from the installation of MDMC, and surely theyve had a bit of time to work on its flaws. I think MDMC would be an alright coaster if it didnt slow down so damn much. I reckon it would fit alright into the lineup at Sea World, maybe throw in a kicker wheel or something, just to give it that little bit of a push where it slows down to that rediculous point, and see what happens.

  10. another ride that will be marketed as a thril ride when its not? perhaps a new Extreme Avis Vintage Cars Adventure reaching speeds of over 4KM HOUR!
LOL! I totally wouldnt put it past them. I Havent heard anything about DW Management being annoyed with Sea world building a clone.. Its a bit sad of them if they are.. Too Bad if they want to build the same ride, are they going to be the same when an overseas park builds the intamin version? Why they would want to build a clone though who knows..
  11. I am guessing tomorrow will be a day where the parks are filled with 1. people who have to go because their holidays are about to end, and 2, locals who want to kill some time with the annual passes.
Thats pretty much what im expecting at Dreamworld tomorrow. I know last year was pretty much dead on Anzac Day, a few international guests as expected, and the Max Action Passholders, but nothing too big.
  12. I was in that general area today, the only thing happening was a temporary fence has been put up. Its to be located right outside the Retail shop, in the area that was used for Character runs. Heres a couple of quick photos I managed to grab from inside the retail shop to give you an idea how close it is. Also Dan, Shouldnt be any problems with having to remove this topic or photo, They are advertising it on the side of the temporary fencing. "Spongebob is changing his squarepants for flypants, coming June 08" with that same concept art on it.

  13. In off peak periods there is no need to have the third person, although in Holidays, they do have this person, purely for grouping riders up. And synchronising them, while it may seem practical, Its more efficient for Dreamworld to be running two seperate sides so that it is not affected by annual maintenance and breakdowns etc as much as other rides. It allows them to continue operation of the ride, just at a diminished capacity.

  14. I still think it is STUPID how long it takes for the car to go from when it slows down to releasing. Not to mention when it goes slow at the end before engaging the gondola. If they went faster during that time, Capacity would greatly improve I reckon. Shaving off around 30 - 40 secs of the cycle time.
I dont think it makes too much of a difference considering while it comes down is time that is being used for unloading and reloading. So by the time it comes down, the cycle is just getting ready to start again.
  15. Interesting that some of the ride ops don't know how to use it. I was on GD, and when we got to the top, one of the other riders pulled a camera out of his pocket. We thought it was just taking a really long time to reach the top when we noticed we were slowly coming back down. It would have been nice to know that's what was happening
I dont know whether it was so much that the ride ops wouldnt have known how to use it or didnt feel the need to. Its quite sad though that the op didnt notice the camera in his pocket, usually they are good with that sort of stuff, and they make you turn up your hands before they start the ride just to be sure. I know that its a protocol when the ride cuts out or cannot be moved one way or another temporarily to make an announcement to guests, and that is why they are there. Also, that speed is as fast as the catch cars can move up and down the tower.
  16. The Speakers are just there, as spotty and gazza have said, for emergency contact. In the case of the ride having a breakdown it provides a way for the operators to convey messages to riders (eg. Please remain calm and all that jazz.) It also provdes an alternative way for engineers on the ground to talk to engineers in the catch car working on the tower. Although, its primary use is for breakdown situations.

  17. But in summary, I don't think they failed with the queue line for this ride, if there was any minor adjustments which could be made to it though, it would being able to access your choice of ride's queue without getting stuck in a huge line, especially when the line you want is empty.
It would be a great adjustment. To their credit though, In peak periods they use one of the extra deck-hands to move up and down the queue line, grabbing single riders and people for the side cars. That and using the two trains makes for a much shorter queue time.
  18. We can only hope this is Dreamworlds Dark Period. Surely it can only go up. I know recently there have been some investigations going on in park in regards to theming etc and how it can be improved/repaired. Hopefully this leads to some action and doesnt go the way of the last set of investigations. Although, the plans for this year (from what I've heard) are only small, leaving a bit of money lying around to hopefully pick up their act. Fingers Crossed!
