I was unaware of ING putting the money up for the wheel, in that case DW or whoever have there own money, so scrap that point. Although with the London eye copy, many years ago there was anohter idea to put the words "MELBOURNE" on the dandynong ranges in a similar style to Hollywood, the point is we are just copying other peoples ideas instead of creating something original. Although when i think about those countries have a lot more money that us to take a risk and build something completely new and therefore can take the risk. We are playing it a little safe in a sense......so wish the paramount park went through... BradWell, I think the reason it is going in is simply to give an anchor to the Waterfront city development, now I as much as anyone would have liked to have seen the Paramount movie theme park proposal go through, but unfortunately this was the development proposal that was accepted, the fact they even opted to incude a wheel in the proposal is better than nothing considering it could have just been another apartment tower. But as for saying we are copying London, well big wheels have been huge in Japan for ages, and there are a few others around (One is going up in Dubai from memory) Hopefully at some point in the future a developer has the vision for a good park in Melbourne. Are you saying ING (The developer of the Southern Star Wheel) should donate the money to DW or whoever? -
Hello everyone, My name is Brad and I am a fan of rollercoasters like all of your here. I have been to Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain,Universal Studios, Walt Disney World,Universal islands of adventures and various rides in Las Vegas. I am a massive fan actually and love the thrill of a good ride, but I just wanted to come on here and vent my anger at Australia and the stupid copy of the London eye which I saw being built on the way to the airport the other day.... Surely we could spend that money on a better rollercoaster (michael doohans isnt looking that flash) in queensland or build something a little closer to melbourne. It is unfortuante that we as Melbourne folk only get our kicks from the Melbourne Show and occassional trip to QLD. Lucky people may even get over seas for their roller coaster fix! All aside I guess it will be good for the community to have something new to do in Melbourne, I just wish it wasnt a copy of another city's claim to fame! It would have been nice to have a original ride and something a little more thrilling! I look forward to hearing your response and participating in future posts. Brad
