  1. You bet it would cost more to gradually pull down and rebuild but compared with the alternative of not being allowed to demolish - rebuild then the money must be forthcoming and from a family who loves rollercoasters I have no doubt they will spend what is needed.

  2. One of the problems with just scrapping it is you give the local council the chance to not approve a replacement coaster and believe me they are not the easiest council to deal with. So there is the potential to do a "major refit" and then section by section replace the coaster with a new type.

  3. AH?
Well they are the initials of the Site/Project Engineer who is Philip's daughter. I find it interesting that she has quoted you 2010 as this is her project and her schedule now is pretty much focusing on this project. Discussions will be had shortly regarding the feasability of getting this coaster operating. One of the many problems is the limited throughput of a 10 seater train and getting 10 on is hinged on 5 groups of couples (you sit between your fellow passengers legs). So a multi train block system with sidings and sheds would be required to increase the hourly rate to acceptable levels, this is not in place and would require a fair whack of capex. There is another option which they will consider, a total pull down and rebuild with a imported coaster.
  4. Hey. I sent some snail mail (lol havn't done that in a long time) anyway, when i got back from GC today I had a letter from the owner or whoever it is, he said, the orphan rocker wont be open by 2010 for reasons he is not allowed to tell me. He said the ride is completly safe and has completed many circuits safely. Thats all he would tell me, I really think something suspicious is going on with the ride.
What are the initials of the person who gave you that information in the letter?
  5. Well here is the response from the agency, I have heard before of these agencies placing "fake" ads before just to canvas the current market. Unfortunately it seems that this is what this was. Thankyou for the response. Unfortunately that job was shelved and was never actually approved to go ahead. It is an old advertisement and was placed as an initial feeler for the market. As a result the ad has been withdrawn. Kind regards, Chris Jurd

  6. hey dose any 1 know how the giant tipping bucket works in the new nick water playground? and also the lil cone ones. (they totally copied off wet n wild)
Yes, They are basically mounted in a way to prevent them from being 100% vertical when they are filling up with water so that when they are almost full the weight of them being off centre tips the whole bucket out. I also suspect that blocks of Stainless Steel could be attached inside to assist in counterweighting them.
  7. I did an exhaustive search today and came up with not much however all this talk of golf resorts passing off as theme parks reminded me that a search of Hawkesbury Council development applications came up with a 18 hole golf course at Pitt Town. I certainly hope this is not what we are excited about.

  8. Wazza considering I was the operator of Demon when the cable snapped I think I have a fair understanding of what happened and how close not only myself but the guests in the rear carriage were to getting hit by the cable, how close the train was to stopping in the boomerang and how brown my pants were after it happened. There were large metal rollers that the cable sat on under lift one several of these were bent at right angles which give you some idea of the force. "The Bus is now leaving for Snap Creek, Victoria"
Ok Bussy, now I think I know who you are, did you go on to work for the major road construction based out in the carpark? Good memory about those rollers, I forgot about those - how could I as I had to put them back on and that was a dangerous job hanging out over the ground trying to locate those HEAVY metal rollers back into place. The cable actually whipped itself around those rollers as it shot past and ripped them right off the mountings. 1 of them was half buried in the grassy mound under lift 1.
  9. The cable only snapped once between 2000 and closure and that was the 2001 occurance. The incident where the maintenance mabnager was in control was prior to my start which was early 2000. I was told the train had weight bags in it and he was manually hoisting it up lift 1 and got a case of the "death bounce" and thats when the cable broke. It was always a bitch to hoist in manual because the proportinal control was bypassed and you only ever had full pressure to the winch, this is where you got the uncontrollable bounce.

  10. $10,000aud per set, 1 set being two halves. 4 sets per cabin. Each halve of a set began with opposing polarity - North and South which attract each other and create the "eddie current" when a fin passes through them which slows the cabin.

  11. A bloke named Gus who came to work for us as labour hire who wasnt properly inducted (what's that word mean?) when 3 hours into his workday placed one halve of a set of braking magnets next to the other and CLUNK together they came. No problem except he had his two thumbs between the magnets to which he lost. Police & Workcover were swarming within hours and kicked all of us out of the cordened off crime scene so we sat in the canteen for the afternoon.

  12. And what caused this to snap?
Poor Maintenance, a lack of understanding of the critical importance of rope inspections and lubrication as well as the poor decision to allow a unsuitably qualified person to "look after" this attraction. I remember this afternoon well, I was the "cruiser" on this day and was called for a 61 Charlie position 13 so I dutifully attended to find the train parked not far off it's normal position in the station. What a mess, the rope had failed about 60 - 80 metres behind the catch car whilst the train was almost at the release point on lift 1 and hurtled through the station with the catch car attached taking it far beyond its usual stopping position and also laying the rope between the then opened brakes, the front of the train would have made it into the boomerang but luckily the resistance of having the catch wagon attached with the rope as well prevented a stoppage in the boomerang. The train then fell back into the station with the rope now on the outside of the brakes wiping out every prox switch and sensor in the station. There was a "birds nest" on the tracks near to where the diverter trolley sits and this section was later cut out and sent away for a multitude of tests.
  13. hi all, As I have a 3000 word essay due tomorrow I was engaging in some time honoured procrastination on the Wonderland closure photography website, and whilst reading the demolition timeline noticed something a little odd which I though one of the more knowledgeable types around here may be able to assist with. Why is it that the Wonderland gates shut forever on Anzac day and yet the rides still ran and were repaired after closure (see cut and pasted information below). What possible reason could there be for FIXING the snowy river rampage or running space probe? Were these staff or private functions? Seems odd, as I would have though closure equals no more rides and definitely no more upkeep. I'm sure there is a simple answer to this, but it is late, I'm tired and I'm still staring down another 800 words so please, satisfy my curiosity. cheers, Dean Anzac Day - April 25, 2004 The gates shut for the last time. Wonderland is now Closed forever! June 16 2004 The yellow Bush Beast train was sitting at the top of the lift hill. Dragons Flight, Merry-Go-Round and Baby Bumpers were put in shipping containers and sent to 'Sunway Lagoon' Malaysia July 3 2004 The Demon was completing several cycles. Snowy river rampage has been fixed. Bountys Revenge got a new motor. Aug 7 2004 The space probe and the demon were operating and the guysers on the snowy river rampage where going off.
Yes we did run the rides sometimes on a weekly basis and other times just for something to do as we were all there having bbq breakfast and lunch every day and between bbqs it got boring so we used to do some silly things like ride the rides and videotape ourselves on them and just float around doing the odd job like pulling down things that had been sold etc etc. Snowy never was fixed after closure and Bounty's did not have a motor repaced after closure.
  14. Anyone got any ideas on the colour of the Zodiac? Seems to be red in these sat pics. If my memory serves it was only ever blue in the earlier days then purple.?????
I did notice that myself some time ago, the only explanation I can suggest is it may have been undercoated with the red oxide when they were changing the colour to purple. The Google Earth photo was taken between April and August 2002 and this is about the time the colour was changed, however I cannot remember this red paint ever being applied. Also note Galleon's Graveyard is being finished off at the same time.
  15. I know that this might be a bit off topic compared to the last few posts, but i guess it is relevant to this enormous thread's title! I have noticed the last few times that i have been driving up Walgrove rd that the demolishon crew have left one building standing. It is situated up around the back of LG and i can only ever get a clear view for a second (at 70kmh that is) Does anybody know what this building is? For all i know it could be a toilet, but between that or some mains point (eg power, water, gas) i cant think of why they left it there.
What you are seeing is the main switchroom for the site, unsure as to whether it is to be kept for power distribution to the new site or if it will be taken out like everything else. You will find recent photos of it on the Wonderland Sydney website, link is below Check out more photos.. http://----URL removed for non-compliance with Community Guidelines----/june/
