In a way it shows how incompetent our local journalists have become - they all drove past a valleyed roller-coaster that was in plain sight to cover a news story about another valleyed roller-coaster that they had no chance of seeing.

Even the language I saw being used was clearly heightened to get clicks - “rescue”, “trapped”, “stuck,” “movie world blames guest” - like give me a god damn break.

I was thinking the same thing TBH. I would have thought this would have been more newsworthy lol. But it’s not really, as far as I’m aware the train was empty when this happened anyway.

Movie World should get a Zamperla Giant Discovery to make the claw totally redundant. 800 rph, 50% taller, 40% faster - perfecto!

I'd much rather something that isn't 10 minutes up the road. If I wanted to have an intense frisbee style ride I'd go the KMG XXL like The Beast. They make park versions of them too, and are by far the most intense Gyro Swing style rides out there. But I think it would be stupid for Movie World to go with something like that.

I know it was for sale did they end of selling it? Doesn't seem to travel much these days. Since they stoped taking Sky Walker over to Perth seems they kinda pulled out of the PRS even when they sponsor the show.

Hasn't been sold, just hasn't travelled in a while due to several reasons. Will hopefully be out and about again soon though

Today agree. I have also heard that, based on his experience, DW's current CEO is no fan of S&S. Extremely unlikely they will acquire anything from them

That would be because himself, and the operations manager were at Movie World when the Green Lemon debuted... I very much doubt they would work with S+S. And honestly most of their rides are plagued with issues, the only ones that seem to be reliable is the Space Shots and the Screaming Swings. Which Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a screaming swing at Sea World TBH. If dreamworld didn't have The Claw it would be a good fit.

  5. I don't really see many of the parks working with S+S any time soon. Especially with the Green Lantern issues that the ride had. Especially given that many of the high end staff in the operations team were with Village at the time of it opening and saw first hand what a potato it was. Batwing also had a fair few issues early on.

I'd say the only reason that Movie World keeps Green Lantern running is because nothing else can fit there and it's keeping them ahead of Dreamworld right now for coasters and thrills until they hopefully catch up again.

Slight alterations, but the lap bars are staying, nothing really that will alter the overall experience of the ride.

plus there’s always the one in Paris yearly to enjoy a proper authentic experience as I did in July this year.

Zippers are wild, still to this day one of the best machines ever created. It’s up there with the intensity of Huss and their machines.

Just wish the Zipper's still travelled. It's been so long since I've seen one :( Keen to get a ride on the Rainbow as soon as it's ready. I know the owners of the ride are very keen to have it running, and proud to have it in their family.

  7. The Beast has been a very successful ride in Australia and does well at pretty much every show that it goes to. As far as the speed claim goes, most matterhorn style rides run at a similar speed (depending on how full it is) which is approx 14rpm forwards and 12rpm backwards. There are a few new rides coming to the Country and travelling soon, and a few old favourites coming out of retirement too that are currently being fully refurbished. 🌈🌈

  8. That plot of land that's cleared where the Lazy River is should stay reserved for White Water World. That's the only place left they can expand. Dreamworld has a few areas that they can still expand into without using up that location. I really don't want to see a Power Splash in the park, It just seems like a one trick pony which I feel given the past of Dreamworld would be a step back.

I strongly think a good family friendly water ride like a decent log flume would be great for the park. If Sea World didn't already have Storm I would have loved a more extended version of that TBH. I Feel that kind of ride should be the next attraction they build from the ground up. Then something to fix up the ABC Kids area would be my next priority. If they re-routed some footpaths they could probably utilise the space Big Red Car took up, and the space where the Tower of Terror queue stood to make a decent sized dark ride. I mean you could even take up the space that the Wiggles Fun Spot uses too.

Once those 2 attractions are done, then I'd say the park would be due for another decent thrill ride. I'd love to see one of the new Vekoma Flying coasters like the one at Phantasialand open up in the park. I'm not sure what this ride costs, but I'd say it's cheaper than the B+M Variants and it looks to be a damn good ride and something that's not seen in Australia. Honestly, if they hadn't just done up the Motocoaster that land would have been great for a new coaster but I don't see it going anywhere now for at least 10 years since it just got new trains.

  9. From my previous experience working at Movie World. Weekday attendance was approx 3000 a day, weekends 4000 - 5000.

School holidays were around 8000-12000. The park would close the gates at 16,000 which was the full capacity. General rule of thumb was if the park is expecting more than 10,000 they would add the 3rd HSD show (11am, 12:15 and 1:30pm) and for a crazy peak day they would add a 4th show at 4:15pm.

This was back around 2013, so not sure what the current park capacity is. But they have certainly shut the gates a few times in the past. I remember being stuck operating batwing till 7:15pm when the park closed at 5:30pm... most boring ride in the park to operate IMO

  10. Ah yes... I used to love the days of operating Lethal before it became Arkham and things got complicated. As soon as the harnesses released, we would wait until everyone is off the train but still messing around with loose items and then the gates would be opened. It honestly made such a difference, it was around 2011 that they started putting in all sorts of strange procedures like not being allowed to do this. I can't remember the exact reasoning they told us but it was pretty BS.

Operations were honestly at it's peak around 2009 - 2012 TBH and by the time that 2013-2014 came around things were starting to really go downhill... and then we ended up with what we got now. Even during those periods they had some trials (and many errors) that didn't last long that really destroyed operations and thank god they stopped those quickly. Superman running with no unloader for example was a total disaster, being able to send 4-5 trains every 30 mins instead of the usual 6-7 was not fun, that and the paid lockers... ugh.

If they improved their operations manual and staffing levels to the point where groups were always prepped and ready to load the minute the gates opened, in theory it would be possible to improve on that though. If they're spending this much money on a harness-free evac platform, maybe they're seriously trying to improve capacity and you'd want to assume they'd do everything they can to do that?

The time it takes for the cars to move into the station, have guests disembark and then have them load and mess around with loose items and the seatbelts as well would make it pretty damn impossible. They would have to reinstate the lockers and have an entry host at pretty much all times to make this happen. Honestly, if the ride is running with 2 loaders and a sorter the capacity of the ride is good with 4 cars. It's just if they want to pay to have the sorter or if they have the staff available.

Didn’t the ride originally open with 6 car operations? I wonder if this is what they actually meant as in increase capacity.

Upgraded sensors to increase 6 car operation efficiency would be the only other thing i could think of.

Yes... and that was a total disaster. Trains stacking, faults galore. Was nicknamed the "Green Lemon" by the opening crew of the ride. It was quickly determined that 4 was a good number of cars to run with. It gave it a decent capacity, but didn't overload the ride. 2 trains loading, 2 trains cycling. By the time the 2nd train hit the final brakes time to dispatch the 2 in the station (provided everything went well)

Honestly, the ride doesn't need to run 6 cars at a time. The capacity increase is so minimal due to the stacking that it's just not worth it.

I call bullshit on this. I guarantee Superman is not capable of 1 minute dispatches.

I'm sorry, but if he's meaning 1 minute dispatches from when the train is fully parked in the load station to being sent onto the course. It is very possible with a good entry host and if you have a sorter. Staff can easily do a full train harness check and dispatch within about 30-40 seconds if on the ball and no one has any loose items.

General dispatch time from the load platform tends to be between 60-90 seconds with 2 trains and full staffing. Haven't seen it in a while, but when I was there a few weeks ago the staff were dispatching about every 75 seconds from when the train parked.

  14. Was at Movie World on Sunday, the Superman Crew were honestly doing a great job. 2 trains running and they were running without a sorter too. Managing to get trains dispatched very quickly. Wish I could say the same for DC Rivals... 90 min waits with 1 train operations. Also, I think they have adjusted the seatbelts or the tolerances quite significantly recently. I have absolutely no issues at all on Steel Taipan and the seatbelt even has some give, on Rivals... not so lucky and I'm not exactly huge (Just tall mostly) which was a bit of a bummer.

Was great to see the park so busy, I just really hope that it wasn't cost cutting for not putting the 2nd train on and it was an unexpected mechanical issue as they did have 2 loaders and a sorter rostered on. Staff were honestly doing the best they could do though.
