  1. Drove past WnW yesterday afternoon. The Half Pipe looks awsome. i must say that those photos don't really do it justice. It really dominates the skyline of WnW, and that is a big claim considering what is around it. And to be honest, I am really looking forward to riding it. EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention as well that they are putting in a heap of new pipes and stuff running all the way along the front of Movieworld and WnW. Might have something to do with improving the water system around the area. Probably not important. But it does look like they are increasing the size of the Movieworld Carpark. After last summer, Movieworld, WnW, and Aussie Outback might need quite a few extra spots.

  2. A look at the lake in Oaky Creek that the new area fronts onto. Along the left bank is Australian Wildlife Experience and the Log Ride further down. The relocation opens up a whole new area around the lake for potential expansion.
I think this is what people should be looking at. Let's face it, if Dreamworld had no intention of building over there, they simply wouldn't have bothered relocating the Vintage Cars. As for the comments on the appearance and 'charm'. I think it looks good and nice. It's suppose to be a casual sort of a ride, and the station looks nice. Besides, you really cannot tell what is going to be build around in future.
  3. How does this theme of the coaster fit into River Town? Does this see the new theming of River Town?
It doesn't. It fits the theme of Wiggles World. They have already painted the paddle steamer those feral colours to fit in with it already. Expect this to be "Jeff's Slumber". Everyone is suppose to fall asleep on it and at the end there is an audio track that says... "wake up riders!" The only problem is after a couple of years Dreamworld will cut costs by not playing it, so capacity will drop.
I was never expecting anything too big since its family oriented, but I think the twisting layout and the launch will be what makes it interesting, its all going to come down to the speed it runs at, if its got a fast launch speed its going to belt through those turns and be a nuts experience.
From what I saw when I was there last time, there were probably two different courses the track could take. One is pretty similar to Rita, but with only two humps. The problem would be that the turn out of the first hump would be really tight. Could make things interesting though. The second is a little more complicated to explain. I think the best feature of this ride will be when the track crosses over itself creating the headchopper effect similar to Superman. Other than that, a low-riding tack that brushes near those trees etc, and the unique sitting position could build a degree of excitement.
And hey, since when do family rides suck? SDSC rocks.
But is it a 'family ride'? Dreamworld is talking Big 6 Thrill Rides.
  4. I was kind of thinking that that last turned section would be a full banked turn into brakes just before the station, with the launch section being a little further along the straight bit. I will have to say that the supports and track look really different to what they have produced before. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it is completed.

  5. ^Arundel tip LOL! In all seriousness, they didn't really take any measures to preserve them. Just crunched em up and threw them in the back of a dumpster. That mountain had some structural issues for a while from what I have gathered. Last time I was there it was leaking and has been doing so for some time. Wet'n'Wild probably sees it more fitting to completely replace it all with something newer than repair it.

  6. They have set up a temp fence around about half of the old thunderbolt site adjacent to WhiteWaterWorld. If you are looking north, it is essentially the left half of the old site. And there is a heap of construction/destruction machines.

  7. Finally got around to going to Dreamworld again yesterday and I have some various things to report. Before I do, let me withdraw my remark about the general upkeep of Wet'n'Wild as it was particularly focussed at the mountain which is now destroyed. Maybe they heard me? Haha... probably not. Ok, first I will start with the good news. I was very impressed with the general feel of the park. I was very happy with the aesthetics and particularly, I will have to say that there is a lot of construction and maintenance work going on all around the park. Now, I am not talking about just where the new ride is going in, but plenty of places. It gives me the impression that they are looking to make the improvements. And there really is a proactive feel around the park with respect to getting the place back on track. As for the installation of the new ride. Most of the concrete footings are in. From these you can pretty well see the layout of the track. It looks like it is going to be pretty short, but assuming it stays low it will probably be great for maintaining the speed. The current map has removed the vintage cars from this area, but still calls it 'rivertown'. I really cannot tell what is left of Rivertown, but perhaps they may redevelop it with this new ride as the main attraction. Ideally (long term of course), they could extend this area to across to the island and create a new area on there, but that is just my personal speculation. The only thing I can really tell for sure about this ride is that the launch section will be located directly next to the Tower of Terror track and run parallel to it moving north, and it appears to launch from the station. I will be curious to see how they create the entrance and all that. Now, the next big one is Eureka. I really cannot say what is going on, because I have no idea, but this is what I observed, and you can make your own inferences at will. The first is that Eureka is no longer on the map, and is not considered an attraction. When I went earlier in the year they had the sign up saying it would not be running today... obviously. It's no longer there. Again, just observations so make of it what you will. The second is that the front of the building between the candy shop and icecreamery adjacent to the IMAX theatre has been tawn down and you can no-longer walk between these two sections. There is construction fences in front of this area so it is hard to miss. If I was to speculate, I would say that it was simple renovations, but who knows... The final thing is with respect to the new area where they are building the Vintage Cars. I would like to say at this point it is good to see them relocating the ride rather than removing it. And I am happy to see them installing the new coaster in the location it is. However, I find it odd that they will build the new Vintage Cars in such a far away location. If anyone is not sure where it is going, it is basically out over a river behind the log ride. It is really a long way to walk for such an attraction that is essentially on its own out there. Personally, I think it is a sign that they will look to expand the park out there in future. But make of it what you will.

  8. I anticipate barely anyone will go. LOL... nah I'm pretty sure the last one was on the same night as the Broncos vs Titans game at Suncorp. Unsurprisingly a heap of people went to that instead. I am pretty sure their next match is on that same weekend. Not sure what night though, might be the 6th.

  9. I just didn't want to tell in case people wanted to see it for themselves. In response to the last questions: It's in the show stage. They have done up the inside of the entrance so it seems you are walking into Shrek's swamp. They have mist and fog and all that so it really sets the mood well. The set is really good. They wear the costumes from the street parade. As I said I was impressed. It is essentially designed to look like Shrek's swamp. I saw it today and the stage was almost half full, but there were not a lot of people at the park. It goes for roughly half an hour. There is only one show per day at 12:30. For those who want to know what is about, you can read the following: Essentially it is about Shrek leaving to Far Far Away to meet up with Fiona. I am not sure where it fits with the whole scheme of the story, but Puss in Boots is there. Basically, little Red Riding Hood is organising a concert for Shrek before he leaves and he is suppose to be the main star. Donkey wants to be the main star, but when Shrek says he doesn't want to, they let Puss in Boots do it. They sing a few songs, tell a few jokes and at the end Shrek actually decides to sing, which is pretty good. The songs are fairly recent and are not corny, which is the problem these shows generally face. I personally was really pleased with the dancing, etc. A pretty good show, but be warmed it is a fairly music based show if you really do not enjoy those type of things.

  10. Went to Wet'n'Wild today so here is a quick update. Looks like if white water mountain returns, it is not going to be in its former capacity. Half of the mountain itself has been ripped down and the previous four body slides have been ripped apart, broken up and are gradually being moved away. The two terror canyons are still in tact - at this point anyway. The second update is on the Half Pipe. As far as I could see, they have nearly completed the footers for the ride. To my surprise they have appeared to build what looks like a shallow pool underneath and around the ride. So hopefully this thing will still be a water ride after all. I didn't manage to get any pictures, sorry, but keep a close eye on the area over the next couple of weeks.

  11. If they are replacing them completely I would hope that they do replace them with some body slides. If they are replacing everything, they can turn the terror canyons into atomic coasters and the other ones into new body slides. Some Proslide Twisters would be great. But a Bowl Slide without a tube would be the best. No sure how safe those things are though. They look awsome, you basically just rocket down this tunnel and get 'flushed' out the bottom. Hopefully if they do go with this they install a couple of other slides as well. It would be a bit of a cop out if they they removed 6 attractions and really only put three new ones in. But we will see.

  12. Thanks, I will have a go at that. I still have a long way to go, I only just started yesterday and will probably be a little project to occupy me over the winter break. Do you think I would be ok without any custom scenary? So far I have just lay down the asphalt for the pathways, etc but am not entirely sure how to use the custom scenary. I have both expansion packs so I have quite a bit of scenary to work with.

  13. That is looking really good. I especially like your layout of the park. That Shrek building looks awsome. I am about to begin a Movieworld Recreation now. I was wondering out of interest what you are planning to place in the Police Academy and Matrix areas. As far as Police Academy goes there really isn't anything you can put there that peeps can actually watch/see, so perhaps just creating the buldings, etc for visual purposes? Matrix is more obvious since it is now being removed, and I am not sure what to replace it with? Maybe just an empty sound stage?

  14. WWW cost $60 million. Though this may sound like alot of money (and it is) if you put it in perspective compared to other attractions/parks, it's not that much. For example, Superman ESCAPE at MW cost $16 million, which is more than a quarter of the cost of opening WWW.
Yeah but when you work on that logic it is still the cost of four Superman Escapes in the space of a year, so it isn't like the company isn't spending money. Don't get me wrong, it isn't an excuse for the decay of Dreamworld, but it is indication that the company can apply themselves if the money and intention is there.
Considering that there's been half a year of nil activity, removal of the queue area/carts and no signs of construction/maintenance, I'd say that the chances are slimmer than slim of it returning. Don't get me wrong, it could happen, but when the chances are that slim... :(
True. Trust me, you can quote me previously on saying that it looks ominous. I think that while Dreamworld continues to state that the attraction exists, there is still a chance. And in the case it is removed, who is to say that it will not be replaced in time. At the moment that Eureka shut down the company was probably a little more pre-occupied with the construction of the water park and sorting out how they would install their new attraction the motorbike coaster. Currently they have a lot going on in the park with respects to the relocation of vintage cars and the booster bikes, so maybe when they free up some resources Eureka will get the treatment it deserves.
By 'natural' areas, I'm assuming you're reffering to bushland, marshland or some flora-related subject. If this is what you are reffering to; Dreamworld doesn't need to maintain these areas much at all, as it is living flora which takes care of itself, most of the time.
Well that's right, and I think that the attitude that these areas can be left flows into areas that probably need a bit of upkeep. And you could probably make a similar comparison between some of Wet n Wild's older attractions in terms of aesthetics and cleanliness and those of WhiteWaterWorld and it really doesn't make a great claim for WVTP's as people are saying. I don't think that the issue is really to do with the companies in charge of these parks.
When does the GD run with 6 people? It's always both sides when I see it
Essentially any time the park is not busy and they can save money on running costs. Both Movieworld and Dreamworld are culprits of closing major attractions for a large period of time in off peak seasons. It helps save money.
  15. Even though I would agree that Dreamworld needs to pick up its act, you do need to keep in mind that the company just spent a heap of money installing a water park, and as far as parks go it really displays a good standard. If they can translate some of this effort throughout the Dreamworld areas, it could really bring it back up to speed. I think the strongest signs of improvement currently are that they are installing a new coaster and relocating the vintage cars. Especially considering that they are going to the extent of keeping the attraction rather than dismissing it. From what I have gathered they are also going to make an effort to pretty up the new location, and also create a fresh feeling around the new coaster. Let's not forget that there is every chance that Eureka could be fixed, and I can tell you now that they could employ a task force for a couple of months devoted to cleaning the place up. That being said, if these changes are not made than we should really have something to worry about. The thing I will say about the Dreamworld/Movieworld debate is that Dreamworld has been opened a lot longer than Movieworld and currently occupies a greater deal of land. Movieworld requires less effort to maintain its appearance because they do a range of touch ups in the morning. Dreamworld has a lot of 'natural' areas that span quite a distance. The second issue is that Movieworld really hasn't faced the issue of old detiorating rides. In fact, most of their classic attractions have already been replaced, rather than maintained. PS - The issue I was addressing earlier was the fact that I went to the park when it was essentially empty and waited en eternity to get on anything.

  16. All I am going to say at this point is that I went to Movieworld two days after Superman Escape opened, the place was packed, but the lines moved quick and I got to do everything several times throughout the day. On the contrary, I went to Dreamworld around November last year - in the middle of a school term, middle of the week. The carpark was nearly empty. Expecting it to be a great day my mate and I headed on in. Spent nearly the whole day there. Went on Giant Drop once (waited 40 min - running with 6 seats), TOT once (waited 60 min), Cyclone once (waited 40 min). Didn't even bother with the lines for Rapids and Log Ride. Fortunately we managed to get on the Wipeout and Claw quite a bit, but it was a really disappointing day. It is extremely unfair to say that Movieworld is not a fullday park when you really don't have to waste half of your day waiting in line. It is not something that should be used against them. That being said, I will have to say that Dreamworld is making an effort to re-vamp the park even if it appears that major installations are coming slowly. From what can be gathered so far, they are moving the vintage cars into rocky hollow and installing a new coaster near Rivertown. As far as Eureka is concerned, they havn't officially announced its removal, so there is still a chance it could re-open. If they sort that out then surely Dreamworld could be heading in the right direction.
