  1. Or will they bring in some more from somewhere else?? They can't let them breed with just the 12 can they?? There needs to be more of a gene pool? Corect? Or is the 12 enough??
I would have thought that considering they have an obvious problem that effected a large batch of penguins that they would look to broaden the gene pool. Maybe by introducing one or two. They will probably just repopulate with what they have now.
  2. lol. 3 storeys. I bet the half pipe goes into that spare spot in the H20 Zone. Or where the skating half pipe is. I hate the new area. It's so plain, and dirty. Wet'n'Wild is so gross. They need to clean the park really really really really bad.
The H2O Zone is not that bad. I think the thing that seems most unattractive is the fact that you walk over a bridge to get there and then all you can see beyond the area is the animal pens for the Outback Spectacular(?). I honestly think they have just left those areas unattended to at the moment in preparation for maybe some small expansion plans and then do something with palm trees or whatever to block your view. After all there is a path to nowhere. The area itself is actually quite nice, but as I said, the view beyond it, and when you are on the stairs could be better. Part of the attraction for me when I was at WWW was seeing Dreamworld as you climb the stairs. As for the location of the Halfpipe, it would be a decent spot to put it behind Whirlpool, but if they went really good with the theming, it could look nice out the back. Does anybody think that maybe they couldn't install this at Seaworld because of the height restriction? Particularly in the wake of the controversy surrounding the Eye. Obviously (and this has been previously stated), the company purchased the Halfpipe, and for whatever reason have altered their plans. Also, by not selecting Movieworld, would that suggest that there is something else in store for Movieworld already?
  3. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat! HOLD IT FOR A SECOND... YOU WORK IN A THEMEPARK... YOU GREW UP AROUND THEM... AND YOU HAVE NEVER HAD A CHURRO! WHAT THE HELL!
That is without a doubt the biggest tragedy of the century! I think he has to get out there and have one. Just quietly though, Dreamworld has a far superior product. They generally heat them up for you, so when they put the cinnamon sugar on it kind of caramelises a little. Oh my gosh, I am getting the biggest craving now! haha... Oh, and I honestly prefer all the 'pre-ride' stuff on Batman Adventure 2. I think the simulation bit is boring, and the pre-story is more exciting. I will admit though that they need some people in the pre-show that remember their lines. Last time I went on it the girl was like, "We are looking at umm... line..." and looked sideways! LOL!!!
  4. The other day I drove past the port of Melbourne, going by the number of shipping containers, there must be hundreds of new rides being built.
Haha! Yep. I was just thinking something along those lines. I am pretty sure I spied a heap of shipping containers next to Lethal Weapon the last time I was at Movieworld as well! Anyway, I agree that just because it is family orientated doesn't mean it will probably be good. After all Scooby Doo was never meant to be a high adrenalin, top speed thrill ride and it is great. And the best part is that if you want something bigger and all that, Dreamworld is more than likely not going to take up a lot of space installing this thing, so there is still plenty of room for expansion in later years.
  5. There is still a while before this thing can really be judged. Yeah, it might be a bit slower or whatever, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to be as thrilling. There was rumours flying around saying it might be launched to 75-80 km/h or something along those lines. That is still remarkably quick, regardless of what is down the road. And the track layout is pretty unknown to the majority of us, so there is every possibility this thing could have a whole range of exotic little elements. The other factor that remains undisclosed is with respect to the nature of the seating. We know it is going to be in the form of a motorbike, but we haven't seen an Intamin model before, and they may have a unique take on this also.

  6. In all honesty, I 100% agree with what you are saying when it comes to the way that the council will have no leg to stand on when other developers wish to create high rises, etc. I am just saying that it is unfortunate that it is the case. As for my response about the unhygienic state of the area, etc. I just wish that they could instigate as much change in sorting out these problems as they manage to do when it comes to changes involving things such as the Seaworld Eye. Admittedly, I can see both sides of The Eye debate. I can understand if it goes, and I can understand if it stays. In all honesty, I wouldn't mind if the council simply said, "We cannot give a permit it has to go." I just don't understand why specific activist groups manage to muster up enough energy to target the attraction, when there are so many issues that while addressed are not so vigorously faught for. And don't get me wrong, I am as much of a believer in environmental sustainability as any, that is why I was against the idea of them creating the cruise ship terminal. However, as cherishable as the Spit is (and I do agree, that in spite of its problems, it is still something that needs to be preserved), there are just bigger issues associated with the area than a big ferris wheel.

  7. Well, I think White Water World is great, but yeah, I can foresee an expansion on the horizon. I can't speak for MLT, but I am pretty sure that they will look to expand into the area that the Thunderbolt use to exist. That area is primed for expansion. There are a huge variety of things they could put in an expansion. Just look at the lengths they went to to the newest and best waterpark attractiosn when they opened. I would expect a couple of new little things open up toward the road side of the Cave of Waves. Maybe some more family orientated 'Things', like maybe a BBQ area or something. To White Water World I say, "Surprise Me!" hahaha! I think after that there is everychance they will expand into the carpark. But that will be a long time away. If I were in the shoes of either MLT, or WVTP (as was discussed in the possible MV expansion forum recently) I would look to play the carpark expansion card as a long term prospect, and come up with a means of recreating another carpark or whatever. I mean, you look say 20 years, Coomera will be a monster hub, and the Gold Coast as a whole will really need parks possibly twice the size of what they are now to accomodate the demand and keep a decent worldwide status. I think maybe, if Dreamworld can find a new place ot build a carpark and entrance, the whole existing one can become the park. Pie in the sky stuff I know, but you its worth thinking about.

  8. There are two major things that I agree with that people have stated so far. The first is that I don't believe that it is unreasonable that local residents complain about noise, etc. However, I don't believe that residents are the ones complaining. The only residentish buildings on the spit are the three resorts, other than that is a really quite unpopulated for the fact that it is being preserved for environmental sustainability purposes. If residents are complaining, it would only be residents who live on the other side of the broadwater, in which case it would only be a visual issue rather than anything associated with noise. The second is that, yes if they permit this construct to remain then it opens the way for other developers to 'ruin' (for the lack of a better word) the spit by building over sized accomodation or commercial buildings. You would have to say though, that a huge wheel and a building like Q1 for example fall in very different categories, and let's not mention the fact that Seaworld is something that has existing on and given much to the Gold Coast region for sometime, which puts them on a different playing field to shot-gun developers that decided the spit will be the next place for a super-structure. The only thing that I cannot say I totally agree with is this "let's preserve The Spit" it is a natural resource argument, when there are certain areas of the spit that are polluted by used needles, protection wrappers and a whole lot of other things that has really made anywhere north of Seaworld in that area really somewhere I stear clear of. I am sorry if this comes as a bad advertisement for the coast. The only thing I do not understand is why the number of people who fight for the Save our Spit idea will vigourisly protest an attraction like The Eye, which is built by an organisation that has committed heavily to improving the experience of staying at the coast, and will construct a safe, family friendly attraction. Meanwhile, other elements of the spit's deterioration (some of which I have only touched upon) seem to slip under the radar.

  9. I went to Dreamworld yesterday and actually couldn't see many containers. As for updates (barely), they have closed the Vintage Cars, and it seems they have pulled up the metal guiding tracks, torn down the queing area and removed the old bridge, so it is pretty clear that they will re-route the Vintage Cars and just make them fit in with the new coaster. In my opinion, I hope this thing launches toward the tower and sweeps around behind it. If they put in a tophat, it could very well be a different type, like a 90 degree entry or whatever. Inversions would be good too by the way. Preperation has started anyway, so only time will tell now :)

  10. Drove past today. I think those containers have been there for a while now. I will be heading into Dreamworld tomorrow to use the second half of my World Pass, but I think that in the short term they may just focus on re-routing the vintage cars, or whatever modifications they have to make to get this thing prepped to go. Also, just curious, initial rumours and that said it was going to go about 70 - 80 km/h. Considering it will be an Intamin Coaster, do you expect it to launch into a high track piece such as a hump (probably not a tophat because that would be too much like Superman Escape), as a lot of Intamin Launch coasters have, or is it more likely to follow a fairly flat track with some high banked turns like on the Furious Baco or Desert Race? Or better still, what would you prefer, predict or whatever?

  11. Well, that is kind of the case. As it stands they are attempting to get permission from the Council, but the Save our Spit association is against it, believing it is an eyesore, or puts the spit in danger. Personally, I really don't think The Eye is going to do anything to harm the spit. I understand why they have a 3 storey limit for buildings in the form of accomodation and whatnot, but all the poor old thing does is spin around ver slowly and give people the oppurtunity to experience the coast in a unique way. As far as its appearance goes, it is actually a very awsome sight when driving along the Aussie Fair side of the Broadwater, but that is just my opinion anyway. Bottom line is if you wanna have a go at it, best thing is to get it before May. Even if they do manage to get permission for it to stay, there will be a few that won't be too happy about the decision.

  12. Yeah, I'll have a backlot tour, thanks. Also, does anybody think that they might create a larger Happy Feet attraction now that it has won an Oscar? A report in the local paper up here today said that it has already brought in a lot of money for Village Roadshow and DVD sales are expected to sell higher than initially thought. You would assume that if Movieworld was to open a new attraction that wasn't related to well known Warner franchises like DC Heroes or Looney Tunes they would want it to be a fairly recent, and well received film. It would also have the potential to be fairly family orientated, because let's face it, they probably won't install a Happy Feet thrill ride. I am not sure though what sort of ideas they could go with, just an idea. The only thing though is that they have already had a Happy Feet feature.

  13. Yep, that's the guy. As far as I know, the ride is still in pretty good nik. As I said it was closed a while back and you could see a guy touching up some of the paint on the launch track, but other than that there really hasn't been any sign of deterioration or anything. Only thing to note is that a bobcat was doing some digging for what looked like plumbing near the building where the hyrdaulic launch stuff is kept. Maybe they need to set something up to improve the system or something. I really have no idea myself. I don't think they are doing any major updates. It is strange though seeing how they have juggled the dates around lately.

  14. Sorry to get this topic started again, but the Movieworld site says closed Feb 26th - March 4th now. I went a few weeks back and it was closed. It re-opened for a while and is closed again now. The Rooster Guy from the Looney Tunes reckons it is closed for "refurbishment", which just might be the generic sign they use. Does anybody know if the old MRT is ok?

  15. The Policy Academy show is still very popular even though it has been running for years. If they do change it, the replacement show should keep the same style in my opinion, maybe with a focus on a newer release movie? If they add something new this year it might be pretty small, I wouldn't be surprised if they change the Matrix exhibit. The Harry Potter thing they had wasn't around for very long. This seems to be their most updated and updatable attraction. That being said though, I think that it would be good if they introduce new attractions rather than replace old ones. I'm sure they have little spots they could add a few smaller attractions just to keep things fresh until they maybe do something really big in a couple of years or whatever. ...and I'm all for a Behind the Scenes/The Magic of Cinema type attraction, but not sure in what capacity. Just something to give the park the same Movie Magic feel they use to have with the Gremlins, Studio Tour and Special Effects show. Would really give it a good balance with Thrill Rides they have added.

  16. Haha! They probably heard us. It is a good idea to say that something new and exciting is coming in small doses like that. It kind of starts to get the hype going at an early stage for people who don't visit these sites, etc. I guess this is means things will be getting started pretty soon. The only thing I am curious about is how they are going to fit it into the area. By saying temporarily, it means the Vintage Cars are not closing permanently like the Movie Magic Show did for Superman Escape, rather they are just going to build around it. I was at Dreamworld the other day and couldn't really see much room where it can go. Maybe my eyes just deceived me. Time will tell.

  17. Yeah, I noticed that. It is pretty good. And I can see how the Wiggles area would be good if you had really little kids. My friend who I went with scrapped his arm at the end of the Green Room. Just after you come out the funnel he fell out the back of the tube (he was going backwards) and must of scrapped himself on the bottom. Fortunately we all just thought it was funny and noone got really hurt. A similar thing happened to me at the end of one of the Temple ones, I fell out and ran into the steps haha!

  18. Really? That is kind of strange. When I was there they were allowing people back to the front of the line when it broke down. I agree, it is a turning into a big problem. I mean, it is probably one of the most unreliable attractions locally, and that is not something you want to become too heavily associated with a park. The only thing I can say from my trip is that they have a pretty quick response to the problem, and seem to know how to fix it when it stuffs up, but maybe they need to figure out a way to prevent it from stopping in the first place.

  19. Ok, went to WWW the other day, so will post a real quick trip report. I will start by stating in response to your question, there are fences around the track. It is kind of similar to Superman Escape - you can walk under the track, but it really just passes around you. Now for some report and opinions: Well, I will say now that WWW is awsome, in my opinion anyway. Managed to go on the Green Room a couple of times and it was great. Surprisingly, I found it much more enjoyable then Tornado at WnW. This might be because A: You don't have to carry the tube up the stairs, and B: The initial tunnel takes a little extra turn. It is really just an awsome and fun ride. Whoever thought it up has got an incredibly creative mind. Supertubes Hydrocoaster is a really good attraction, but was working on and off most of the day, so only managed to ride it once. The Bro I felt was great. One thing I will say is that each time you go on it, try and get in a different tube, each of them are different. As for The Rip, oustanding! I would love to see one day a combination ride have the bowl from the rip drop into a giant funnel like on Tornado/Green Room. Would be great! Nick area: Great to just go and get wet. Cave of Waves is the same, good to float around and have some fun on a tube. Temple of Huey: A couple of fun rides in there, but really isn't as exciting as some of the other attractions on offer. And finally, I do believe that it is quite small, but for its size it packs a real punch! Fortunately for MLE, there is room to expand the park, which I think they will do in the foreseeable future. Cheers

  20. Yeah, I don't think WWW is having any problems with reaching expectations. They probably kept these alternate deals, etc out of the equation when it opened to make sure that they could earn as much as possible in the first couple of months of opening. But they probably always planned on introducing them. I mean, they cap the entry amount don't they, so you don't want people holding annual passes taking up spaces while people who would pay for entry on that day miss out? Now that the peak season is sort of over, they are happy to let people in at say $15 bucks after 3:00pm because now they realise that their best business will come from the locals. And considering that some pool complexes will charge 5-10 bucks for a swim in the arvo, this is something that could catch people's attention. On top off that, there is always a chance people might grab something to eat or a drink and all of a sudden you are making pretty good money out of someone who goes for two hours.

  21. You serious? You've seen track? I went the other day and just saw some huge containers, which I figured would be related in some way. It sounds good if it will be blue. That horrible puke colour that was on the ones from other places in the world looked horrible. And yeah, you say it looks twisty? In what way champ? I might have to head on down in the next few days and have a look! Cheerio...

  22. Yeah, it seems kind of out of place in my opinion. You never know though, if they make the concious decision to do this now, you never know what they might have planned for the future. There is every chance that they may introduce several other water coasters later down the track, including the models where you get wet, or have the ability to wet others.
