  1. If anyone is going to the Adelaide Show (1-9 Sept) could you take some pics please? [/quote Yesterday at the opening of the show was a boiling day wit no clouds in the sky. I couldnt ride any rides yet as my doctor didnt let me (appendix operation) But me and my friend (he was too scared to ride the twin flip). We noticed smoke coming out of the top of it at about 12pm (while all my friends were on it) Later that night at 7.05 the ride did break down injuring a person leg, who had to be treated. Then later we went to the human cannonbowl and watched it. It was her first shot in Australia this year since she left America not long ago. They had altered the inflatable crash mat so it was more difficult for her to land. She shot up in the sky and her head landed at the end of the crash mat where she then flipped and landed straight onto the ground. Medical staff and ambulances rushed to the main arena to treat her, later she was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.... Yes great start to the show NEWS FROM FIRST DAY AT ADELAIDE SHOW (Advertiser) http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...5006301,00.html A HUMAN cannonball stunt at the Royal Adelaide Show nearly ended in tragedy yesterday. Stuntwoman Stephanie Smith clipped the back edge of the airbag meant to break her fall after her 35m flight across the main arena. The American stuntwoman then landed heavily on her back on the ground. Ms Smith was treated on the oval before being taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The hospital last night would not release details on her condition at her request. In another Show incident last night, the Twin Flip ride was closed after one of its six carriages reportedly malfunctioned about 7pm. A girl suffered a minor leg injury and was treated at the scene. Show marketing manager Francene Connor said Ms Smith, 22, was talking while being treated but it was too soon to know the extent of her injuries. "Her biggest concern was where her mobile phone was," she said. "It's just one of those freak accidents that happen. Until we know more from her and are able to talk to her about it, we won't be in a position to say any more." Witnesses said they heard Smith hit the ground. Aimee Formosa, of Smithfield Plains, watched the act from the grandstand and said it had been clear it was going wrong. "She knew she was going too far and she was waving her arms," she said. "She looked like she knew she was in trouble and when she landed, we heard a thud. It was scary." The Human Cannonball act debuted at the Show last year and drew crowds to the main arena. Last year, the landing surface was a net above the ground. Mrs Connor said she did not know why the switch had been made to an airbag but the act had been performed without incident at the Brisbane Show last month. Smith last year claimed the "death rate" for human cannonballs was 56 per cent but that her worst injury was two broken ankles, suffered inside the cannon during launch. She had been scheduled to perform her stunt twice daily throughout this year's Show in Adelaide. Meanwhile, SafeWork SA said there would be a full investigation into the Twin Flip incident. The girl was treated at the scene by two St John volunteer officers. SA Ambulance was not called to the scene. St John volunteer state officer for training Russell Dippy said they treated a girl at 7.05pm. "There was just one person treated for a minor leg injury, we had another crew on foot on the way, but they were cancelled very quickly because they weren't needed," Mr Dippy said. "The injured person wasn't brought back to casualty." Mrs Connor said the ride would not be operating "until such time as SafeWork say it is safe to use". The operators of the Twin Flip refused to comment.
  2. Hey, since the Adelaide show is coming up on the first of september i decided to go on the website, there is only one new ride this year... the extreme speed machine (is it one of those jet boats that do 360s? etc) i looked it up on google and there r no pics? But apprarently it was at Luna Park Sydney in the Summer. Does anyone have pictures? If so please post them up. Thanx. http://www.adelaideshowground.com.au/showtime/rides.htm

  3. The new amusment park in Glenelg named 'The Beachhouse' opened today! It is on the land of the old Magic Mountain site. The park consists of 3 water slides, bumperboats, bumper cars, ferris wheel, merry-go-round, and more... The Ferris wheel is i think a 40m tall London Eye style ferris wheel.

  4. From the Advertiser on the 16th... Adelaide Advertiser For better or worse, here's the new Magic Mountain By XANTHE KLEINIG 16sep05 THE building to replace Magic Mountain on Glenelg's foreshore - due for completion by the end of summer - has already been branded "ugly" by Holdfast Bay's mayor. Designs for the complex show three 110m waterslides encircling the building, starting from a height of five stories. Mayor of Holdfast Bay, Dr Ken Rollond, said the coloured downpipes supporting the slides detract from the building. "Everyone thought Magic Mountain was ugly and I think some time down the track they will say this is an ugly-looking building too," Dr Rollond said. "They have put the slides outside so they can maximise the inside of the building but it really does make the outside look ugly." All three waterslides, including a "black hole" dark slide, will be fully enclosed and heated making them operational year-round. Inside the building will be a video games parlour, dodgem cars and bumper boats and mini golf. It will also house the original, but refurbished, Magic Mountain carousel, kids climbing castle and train. A 25m, single-arm ferris wheel is planned behind a new Glenelg surf club. Chief executive of the development company, Urban Construct, Todd Brown, said the project "is the most exciting underway anywhere in Australia". He said the area, including over 5000sq m of grassed area along the foreshore, would become a popular destination for families. Dr Rollond said it would provide much-needed facilities for young visitors to the beach. "I don't have any real problem with the entertainment complex. I just think those waterslides are going to look a bit ugly," he said. Also part of the development are the Platinum Apartments and retail mall, expected to be finished in July 2006. New public toilets and showers for beach-users, underground parking and a pedestrian link between Holdfast Shores and Moseley Square will be included as part of the development.

  6. Does anybody have any photos, videos, etc, of Dazzleland, or Magic Mountain (SA.) Because it would be great to see them as Adelaide doesnt have any parks, and i dont really remember what the Jazz Junction looked like. Thanks! :)

  7. But this will be a Disneypark, so it will have to have some similarity to the other Disneyparks. I can tell you this, our current Australian parks are shocking! Why would Movie World be like UNiversal Studios??? its not Universal Studios, Australia. Its WARNER BROS!!!! All i am saying is that this park will kill our parks, and will be like a smaller Disneyland with great theming, etc.

  8. Dont make it one complete pool complex. I have made my park just one complex before and i ended up having around 300people on the parks path and 800people in the complex. Some people in the game do not like going into the first domplex and like walking aroung the park. So you should make every attraction a different pool complex.

  9. OMG!!! My mum just called me from my bedroom saying Luna Park Sydeny is on TV! It was on a tv show called 'Poor mans Orange. (Episode 3) It showed all of Luna Park Sydney in the early 50s and also showed onride footage of the wooden big dipper, and the river caves! (Thats all i saw.) The park overall looked sooo much better and didnt look as cheaply finished! This scene was on for around 3mins! But it was worth it! P.S. It is on Fox Digital, but if you have Foxtel or Austar there is some free digital viewing for 8days only! So you may be able to see the show!

  10. ADELAIDE IS THE WAY TO GO!!!! As the new domestic/international airport is nearly completed, it is meant to boom Adelaide's tourist. Disneyland could easily fit in Adelaide: *Beach covering the western suburbs *Cheap and large areas of land near the city! 10-15min drive from the CBD. Also would only be a few minutes from the beach! *Adelaide has no themepark with the callapse of Magic Mountain and Dazzleland. *Many tourist attractions and beaches to see. (Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln, Glenelg, etc.) *Easy transport - Bus, Train (Tram, Glenelg tram line extending late 2006 with new trams) *Clean and beautiful city *Fast growing population ......... Disneyland i think you should come down to Adelaide!!!
