Back when Seaworld was at least actually trying to be a reasonably serious theme-park! Like another SE Qld park

I dontr think they are trying to be a theme park now. All the current website site branding is "Sea World Marine Park" with a huge "Australia's #1 Marine Park" on the page

The bowling division was sold at the beginning of the year. Ardent (soon to be Main Event) now only have interests in DW, Skypoint & ME.

In senior management, from Ardent level down to DW level, there is basically no one remaining involved with the business that was in place in Oct 2016.

The Ardent CEO position only became a poisoned Chalice after the incident.

The question is whether Ardent wants to invest which would involve redirecting funds likely planned for the ME expansion rollout, or they want to sell up.

Many of Dreamworld main team are still involved at the top. They have done nothing but alot of internal shuffling. Interestingly their COO is still in his position but due to it being less of a media face role its not been brought up.

Looking that ardent have indeed sold the bowing alleys. the marina and the gyms at the moment the think with value is main event and skypoint. Skypoint is no huge cash cow but ticks along with a reasonable profit per year. They infact sold off the marinas and bowling to free up returns for investors after the incident. I wonder what the next option is? They wont sell main event. Its doing well and while I was working for the company their was talk of the American arm of the company wanting more control of ardent than they currently have with more Americans on the board and calling shots. I am amusing this still hold true.

Your quoted comment is actually an author written statement, and none of the actual quotes themselves are worded in such a way.

Im actually pretty happy with the actual quotes from Weiss. Doesn’t absolve or diminish their mistakes or negligence, but points to an acknowledgement that there is a lot of work to do to regain trust and safety is the forefront.

Saying nothing allows the media to create their own narrative

yeah fair enough. I didnt realize that.

I still think they have dug too serious a hole to get out of. Implementing the kind of safety procedures that would be expected  by the public to win back public image trust will cause two issues. A huge spend and lets face it, Ardent wont want to have to spend huge amounts of money of state of the art safety features and extra staff and staff training if there is "no" guests. Share holders still expect their returns regardless and will only wait for so long. Mass sell off of assets "eg bowling  alleys and skypoint" to keep dreamworld afloat is most probable.  Secondly is the issue of going overboard to the point that loading rides and safety check goes too far and slows things to stupidly slow speeds to get people in to rides causing huge frustration.

I am of the belief that Dreamworlds great years are long gone and unrecoverable. The odd CEO or exec change here and their doesnt change the core team at the top. Its the same people with the same thinking trying to cover their arse while working to budgets and and trying to hit sales targets in order to maximize profits for investors. They dont get these jobs to run a fun theme park. They get these jobs because they are good as raising revenue, tightening spending and raising profits. Throw in major incident in their where people have died and its a very tough task. Their is a reason no one wants the Ardent CEO position and I cant see anyone wanting the parks ceo position unless its for huge amounts of money. The ardent CEO position has been called the poisoned chalice of Australian business. I tend to agree.

I'm a firm believer that accidents are nobodies fault  (by definition), and therefore obviously nobody should be blamed or penalised regardless of the consequences of the accident.

I guess it depends if you consider it an accident or an incident ;)?

Either way I feel Dreamworld will be a housing block in 10 years. I wont be going on any of their rides as long as current park management are involved. I just cant trust them now after seeing all this. It would be a shame to see the park go but how can we trust ardent? Someone else to buy the parks maybe?

I worked for ardent in another division in a supervisory role for a  few years and I left the company due to rampant cost cutting making my job almost impossible to do properly and leaving me with too much on shift stress. I wasn't in an area that could have caused harm to people so to think they have done this on their parks division is a real worry. Im going to assume its all across the parks now this is coming to light. Its a shame people had to die for it to become public.

  6. well if they believe its true they are going to say that arent they?  Its an inquiry. Do you think the ride managers going to lie in court about staff being trained or do you believe the ride manager thought the staff were trained? The point is to find out all the facts. Its not a blame game at this point. Real courts not like on TV.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that has noticed that there has been a “turn” in the narrative & story since the witnesses who continue to work for DW take the stand.

It reeks to me of DW’s lawyers trying to shift the entire blame to the 2 operators.

They are just getting facts from all angles. I dont think anyone's trying to shift any blame they will do this with everyone at all levels in this same way. Its just how courts work. I was once a witness to an armed hold up and had to go to court a few times and was grilled on the most ridiculous aspects of the robbery to the point I felt like I was on trial for the crime and  liar and yet I was a victim and innocent bystander just giving facts. Its just how courts work.

  8. dont get me wrong, I can still enjoy it and I like anythemeing thats done well but just as an overall interest I dont love alot of it. Superman, sure, batman sure. But its just everywhere and feels disjointed now. Rollercoasters in the parking lot. Gotham cafes nowhere near the other batman stuff. and now a new section disjointed again. Id love to see the kids zone get a big makeover.

  9. Is this a discussion thread about Seaworld maintenance or just a thread to tear apart every "pushbutton" post and criticize his OWN opinion. You guys seem to have made a sport out of harassing him in his posts and belittling his every opinion. How about you guys get out into the parks and get some photos and throw up some ideas about whats going on in the parks like he does? Pushbutton is just adding his own ideas and likes about the parks. So many of you guys are just trolls who offer nothing interesting to this place half the time. Its not about thick skin, just don't harass people. Its a theme park forum. No one needs "think skin" here.

Ive been here for years but rarely post as I just like to read posts. Honestly id probably post more if some proper discussion went on and not nonstop trashing of peoples own opinions which are just as valid as your own by the way.

I say either get this thread back on track or lock it. Its about Seaworld discussion not trashing people interests that arent the same as yours.

  10. Sad day but I think we all knew it was coming. I dont think seaworld is worse than it was a few years ago. I think the park is looking good and has some good attractions it is just short a couple of things at the moment. The back area near where corckscrew/sv is really needs something and the creatures of the deep needs to be replaced with something a bit more substantial. Also they need to get rid of the old train station. Its just looks stupid. Its  a bit like all our parks, just a few attractions short of being killer.
