Thanks Jeffrey. I'll enjoy looking closer at those later.
So looking at the last postcard, does that mean Sea World was once in Surfers Paradise?
no just the mistake made by the post card company i would think
you will also notice the adventure island ferry docked at what is now nickelodeon land

Thanks JeffreyMoore.
I find it very interesting to learn about the history of the parks.
One small bit of Sea World history I have known for many years is that some of the dolphins came from Marineland, which was an indoor attraction in Adelaide. I lived in Adelaide when Marineland closed and they sent the dolphins to Sea World.
That was over 20 years ago, but it's possible one or two of Sea Worlds current dolphins are direct descendants of those. Dolphins can live a long time, so there's even a small chance one or two are the actual ones from Marineland still.
that's cool maybe you should send seaworld a email and you never know someone mite know the weather or not any of the dolphins are those from marineland

I am struggling to comprehend why Sea World didn't get a couple of spare monorail parts from the Sydney monorail when it was stupidly and unnecessarily ripped to pieces by the morons in the NSW government a few years ago.
From what I've heard they were in perfect working condition, and could have been had very cheap.
that is true and who knows maybe vrtp did buy spear parts etc from the nsw government but the fact they scrapped the 3erd set for parts is most likely becouse parts are hard to come by or costly meaning the system will need new trains or replacement sometime in the future

its great that its not a another roller coaster but lets hope its a new section of the park with a new theme that has nothing to do with the dc universe
-
i think its safe to say now that they have closed ZE to build a new section for tiger island that there's little chance of them spending any money on gold rush this year

If they were to create a few attractions on that side of the park (on the reclaimed land and where Sea Viper was) they could also open an additional monorail station half way along that side, which would again get people moving and spreading around the park more. Although if they did that I'd like to see them return to a minimum of 2 monorails running at all times, and 3 on busier days, otherwise the wait at any of the stations could be unacceptable.
they only have 2 monorail sets now they scrapped the 3erd set for parts a few years ago

I personally think Green Lantern was a good replacement for the empty spot of land.

Aww man, Boot Hill leaving does actually sting me a bit. One of the few things that remained that I could remember liking from back as a kid. RIP RIP Snoozing Dude.
yea it is sad to see another part of the few remaining original parts of the park been removed

Except for Gremlins...
warner brothers classics and the great gremlins adventure is one of the past attractions i miss most
for me its removal was the start of end of the parks i grew up with and miss very much
2001 was a sad year first we lost the great gremlins adventure at movie world.
and second we lost the australian country jamboree at dreamworld ( the start of dreamworlds downfall) for me

To some people anything old was always better than anything new, but ONLY once it's been removed / demolished. While it's still in operation they barely notice it. That's just the way their minds work!
most of the past attractions removed from our gold coast parks were much better then whats replaced them sadly

Yeah if they do end up using it for the ride, I hope they utilise that building well. Have an awesome pre section of the ride before the lift hill, launch or whatever it turns out to be.
I'm pretty sure a lot of people on here love dark rides, including myself. I was only saying that comment as a joke, because we all know how much Push loves his dark rides hahaha
Their last attraction (besides Driving School) was Justice League, which is a dark ride.. So you normally don't see b2b dark rides at one park unless you're at Disney or Universal.
ok just i have noticed quit a few remarks made to push about dark rides witch he may or not find as a joke
movie world opened with 2 dark rides warner brothers classics and the great gremlins adventure & the looney tunes river ride
both rides i miss very much and movie world will never be the same without them
sure we have justice league now but i feel they need to replace eather the looney tunes tunes river ride with a new looney tunes or other wb kids franchise dark ride and or a new dark ride to replace the burmuda triangle on the sea viper site at seaworld

A dark ride I assume.
why is everyone so down on a new dark ride been added to movie world or sea world .
they once had 3 world class well themed dark rides that a lot of us grew up with and they are a missed part of our parks
not everyone loves or likes every new attraction to be a roller coaster

true but thay already have rollercoasters to choA flat would be nice, although there must be a reason why they don't put in many flats. It must be the direction they would like the park to go in? Six Flags MM has hardly any flats and its still a great park. Also, if the GP saw a flat & then a coaster, most would pick the coaster.
even tho i wish this new attraction was not a roller coaster it is cool to see the old show stage may form part of the coaster with a dark ride start or finish to the coaster maybe

I am just as excited for this as the next guy, but i was really looking forward for some type of wooden coaster and was betting all my chips that it was going to be something like a Rocky Mountain, Intamin Woodie or GCI. Having a huge woodie in the park would have added variety and given something that Aussie parks desperately needed. We already have a great steel sit down coaster in the park called Superman Escape. And plus Green Lantern, Arkham and even Scooby, do you think yet another steel coaster is something that park desperately needs. Especially in a period in the last few years that great modern woodies like Outlaw Run and all the RM Coasters are all the rage
the only park on the gold coast that needs a new roller coaster is dreamworld .
VRTP parks already have roller coasters i wish thay would start thinking outside the box and add some non roller coaster
attractions

Not sure who owns it but I think it was an old Hungry Jacks and Petrol Station. It's not used since there are big concrete blocks at the entry.
yes it was a hungry jacks and petrol station in the 1990's
it was closed and knocked down during the pacific motorway upgrade in the late 90's - 2000

Disagree with this. The Gold Coast (or Australia, really) only has one standout rollercoaster. There is definitely room for another headlliner!
ok i can see where your comeing from
but i feel the new world class rollercoaster should be part of future plans
movie world needs a family friendly looney tunes river ride replacement and or more rides for the whole family to enjoy
same for sea world it also needs a world class dark ride etc that is for the whole family before another rollercoaster
i know most will - don't feel the same as me
-
I've been thinking hard and don't know if a woodie would be seen as a "great" ride in Australia. I have all these visions of people without a clue posting on Facebook how Movie World is building an "old" ride. I'm not sure if it'd be as marketable as, say, a 60m tall steel coaster. Just my 2c.
I also think it's going to be a movie theme that's more relatable and modern than any Westerns. I could see Mad Max, but that's not a western and would require a re-theme to slightly adjust its surrounds (if it's build around the sound stage area/behind SCSC).
I do secretly hope we're seeing a dark ride/coaster hybrid but in that case we'd be seeing some more DAs, yes? I'm actually surprised we're not seeing more anyway, unless the one for the coaster can include many sub-items like moving sheds and adding them?
while i do feel the gold coast does not need anymore rollercoasters .
it would be great to see them build a wooden rollercoaster as its something australia has not had since the closure of australia's wonderland.
but would still prefer thay build a world class dark ride etc that the whole family can enjoy
-
very disapointing thats its just another rollercoaster
the gold coast does not need anymore rollercoasters
its time to think out of the box and build a new world class dark ride etc
something for the whole family not just thrill seekers

yes please
So my mum recently gave me a suitcase full of my old photos, school reports etc. in it. Had 2 home VHS tapes in it. One of them happened to be a family day trip to Dreamworld in 1996!
I watched through it today, sadly not much footage of the Eureka as we didn't film the walk through Gold Rush (although you can see a mine cart whizzing past through Eureka mountain at one stage whilst filming from the vintage cars) but there is lots of the old Ocean Parade, Thunderbolt, old River Rapids (with the T-Rex and the elephants) and Wipeout. Also the Kodak Skychairs and Blue Lagoon water park.
Will record it to USB at some stage today, edit it, and upload it to the net if anyone is interested in seeing it?
yes please
its a shame you also didn't get the australian country jamborie in the old gum tree gully area - i use to love it as a kid
