  1. Went Saturday night, very similar to last year although at least this time the parade didn't get stuck. Little pop-up entertainment stages (mostly Looney Tunes characters doing a song) worked well. 15 minute waits for Superman, would have been good if Arkham had been opened up as a substitute for Green Lantern (on the event maps but still out of action). For a park that doesn't have a lot of rides to begin with it seems strange that they shutter them up during a capacity event.

Only real criticism was staffing of the food & beverage outlets, well below what they needed for the crowd size. Sweet Treats only had one staff member all evening and a very long queue. For what is definitely a high margin product, I'm surprised they didn't have another person in there to help pump through more sales.

  2. very disapointing thats its just another rollercoaster

the gold coast does not need anymore rollercoasters

its time to think out of the box and build a new world class dark ride etc

something for the whole family not just thrill seekers

Disagree with this. The Gold Coast (or Australia, really) only has one standout rollercoaster. There is definitely room for another headlliner!

  3. EDIT - actually, looking at Google Maps, unless they expand then there really isn't that much space in the park that isn't already occupied by something. Even Green Lantern is sorta just plonked outside. Makes me wonder if something would have to go. I'd love to see a big, long coaster though, but the only way they could do that, I think, is if it ran around/over quite a lot of other things. Still possible - look at Blackpool Pleasure Beach!

Look up photos of Nasu Highland and Grona Lund. It's always possible to fit in more coasters. ?

  4. Some investigation into this would be highly welcomed It doesn't just have to be locking out all underage children, but just investigating some options to make the experience for all guests as good as possible. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has felt this way...

I was mortified to see parents bringing their toddlers in strollers to this event. Fright Nights isn't Mickey's Halloween Party! I don't think there would be anything wrong with Movie World being proactive with a minimum age of 12 or so for this event. No different to cinemas enforcing age restrictions for MA-rated films really - the impact level is about the same.

  5. Since MDMC in 2007, DW has added only Buzzsaw as a coaster, and that was in 2010. It's a long draw - but considering american parks see coasters every year, or at least every other year, DW should see a coaster at least every 5 years. Shockwave isn't going to draw a crowd. TailSpin won't either. I've just asked my colleagues what they think the last ride installed at dreamworld was, and they were all unanimous - BuzzSaw.

I agree with most of your points, but it's a myth that American parks get a new coaster every year. If you look at Six Flags, they usually add 2-3 new "serious" coasters across the entire chain, so most parks that aren't Magic Mountain have 4-5 years between major additions.

Even Cedar Point has only had 3 new coasters in a decade - Maverick in 2007, Gatekeeper in 2013 and Valravn in 2016.

That said, Dreamworld is overdue for a major addition, hopefully they put in that Megalite soon!

  6. I imagine the footprint couldn't be huge, so a Premier Sky Rocket (like Tempesto or Discovery Kingdom's Superman) might be a good fit.

As for a B&M - something like Daemonen at Tivoli Gardens would probably fit in that space (it's a great ride too!).

It'd be good if they could squeeze in a coaster and a family flat ride (*cough* pirate ship) into that area, to help the guest traffic spread out around the park a little more.

  7. I think I'll pass on this upgrade offer. Happy to wait for a deal that I am sure includes the nighttime events, even if it ends up costing $50 more.

I feel like a good price point for an annual pass is usually around 2-2.5x the daily ticket price, so $160-200 for the Village parks. It's somewhat bizarre that the $75 renewal offer is cheaper than a single day's admission, I honestly have no idea how they expect to make a profit from that.

  8. Batman was a good ride but it certainly didn't age well.

I feel like the comparison between JL3D and Transformers is overly simplistic. Transformers had a $100m budget and that was after Universal built three of them to spread the R&D costs. JL3D's budget was probably more along the lines of Ghost Hunt at Lake Compounce or Hersheypark's Reese's Challenge ride, and it's far better than either of those.

It even holds up pretty well against Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story Mania, and those are probably the benchmark in the "shooting dark ride" category. Sure, some of the animatronics have limited motion, but that's basically every dark ride ever - even on the Disney rides they typically only ever have a handful of characters with more than 2-3 axes of motion. And the seamless combination of physical and virtual targets is pretty impressive.

My main criticism would be the upkeep - last time I went there were broken effects, misaligned screens, and a few targets that didn't work. This is the sort of thing that the park needs to get on top of - it doesn't cost much to sort out an off-centre projector but if left unfixed gives a poor impression. Add this to the broken audio on both Green Lantern and Arkham Asylum and it definitely seems like the park doesn't care about attention to detail, no matter how much money was spent on an attraction.

  9. Pizza/pasta is a bit meh really. While I wouldn't say Movie World has bad food, it's pretty standard theme park fare. I wonder when the parks will realise that food can be a drawcard in itself? I'm not just talking about Epcot either, most of the Busch/SeaWorld parks have great food offerings, and Knoebels has better food than a lot of restaurants.
