  1. Dreamworld has similar visitation to Six Flags Magic Mountain???

Would you be so kind as to provide a source?

My comment said 1.3 to 2.9. Magic Mountain is (I think) the most popular Six Flags. And they only have just over Double the People but over 3 times the coasters, and better more expensive coasters.

I still think you all need to be patient and wait until the summer of 2017/18....

With the Commonwealth Games coming to the Gold Coast what better time than to make a large investment to take away the potential visitors from the competition just down the street. I think we'll get something big, not a B&M but not a skyloop.

That can explain why we have cheaper coasters or why we have fewer, but not both.

  2. In general, rides where you ride in a specific number, or assigned rows, having single rider queues means you can fill the seats that aren't sat together by using the single rider queue (SRQ) -

for example - Green Lantern sits 4 abreast. Groups of 3 leave a single empty seat. The car is leaving the station with or without that seat filled, but the park can keep the wait time down for everyone by offering single rider.

Without a SRQ, the single rider you would have put on the ride is queuing in the main queue. When it comes their turn to ride (in the main queue) they take a single, and perhaps a couple gets on next to them, and then you're left with another single seat to fill.

The point is that when a single is available, if a SRQ is in operation, the ride op can just call the person at the front of the SRQ directly to the seat vacant because the op knows a person in that queue is a single, rather than walking down the main queue calling out for a single rider which can take time firstly for the single to notice, put their hand up and then make their way down the queue line to the front.

This is especially important on multi-carriage operation such as Scooby or Green Lantern to avoid a backlog on the brake run. However (as has been discussed ad nauseum) it isn't appropriate on a ride like TailSpin where each seat is a single.

(And no - Scooby and Green Lantern don't have SRQ - I was just making them the example)

Green Lantern manages their Single Riders quite well as they get groups of 5 or so so that they can have them ready. I think SRQ are great and essential for smaller coasters, I just believe that the queue should form closer to entry.

  3. Touching back on 'viability' of thrills in parks (mainly SW and WnW) - A water park is expected to have both sedate (pools, lazy rivers) and thrills. To say there isn't a market to support that is just incorrect.

As for SW, up until recently, the park's top three mechanical attractions were roller coasters. I don't think it's fair to say that SW couldn't support a market for thrills also - however because of the park theme, it must be done with a little more finesse than just plonking down a coaster 'wherever it fits' ala MDMC. Take a look at the foreign SW parks and realise that most have their water coaster, their signature coaster, a few transport observation type rides, and several flats...

TBH if SW didn't have the height limitation, I think it would be a perfect spot for a large Obs. Tower or Falcon's Fury type attraction... what a view!

I really hope Falcon's Fury comes to Australia :)

And you are definitely right, although the other Sea Worlds are larger and I think have smaller exhibits.

Wet n Wild is really the one with a need of a change. If WWW picked up they would be in serious trouble.

Sea World is completely dependent on their vision and what they do with the Sea Viper land. A very very nicely themed Small scale thrill ride (like a Gerstlauer or Maurer-Sohne) would be really nice for tying it in with the theme. Like Crush's Coaster at Disneyland Paris.

  4. Not bitter at all, but your arguments were contradicting each other. Everyone wishes the western area had another ride or two, specially a coaster, but the fact it's never happened or even been hinted at is a good measure that it's unlikely location to be utilised. Your suggestion of removing WWF is silly, because it's not even a slight possibility of being possible. There is no problem with you stating what you wish could occur, but at least be realistic.

The park and residents have co-existed for a long time. There is about 50-100m of bushland between the two which acts as a sound barrier, and WWF isn't a loud ride. With a sound barrier installed on the final drop, it's basically silent to residents. Putting a coaster in would be completely different. Don't forget DW has residential areas within a couple of hundred metres of their boundary as well. It's not uncommon.

I'll ignore the fact you called me deficient as a rookie childish error. You're new here, so may not be the Best idea to insult people who have been regular posters for Years. You are saying doomsday shouldn't be built as it's too similar to batwing. The similarity begins and ends with them being tower rides. Doomsday isn't even a launch tower. My comparison to DW was that you may as well say if you have a ride that runs on a track, don't bother building another one. Anyone thinking the tallest ride on the Gold Coast landscape wouldn't be a crowd drawer isn't thinking clearly.

I don't think it wouldn't be a crowd drawer I think it would leave Batwing redundant. And I think the biggest reason there hasn't been a Western expansion is because if real estate. IMO they've have made the DC Comics area disproportionately attraction heavy, completely detracting from the rest of the park.

As for the Western theme at DW, I totally agree. So many loose ends that need to be tied together. It would be wonderful if they had more attractions there. They've done a great job with Ocean's Parade.

  5. So your issue is there is only 2 attraction in the western area, so you want to knock it down and build, wait for it, another attraction. 1-1+1=1. You also said you don't want it knocked down, then twice suggested it. WWF is a great family attraction, it doesn't need to, nor will it, be demolished. There is room for a couple of solid flat rides if the area was re-vamped that is all.

Yeh, lots of the people live out the back of MW/WnW, it's called Oxenford & Pacific Pines, some of the biggest growth areas on the GC. Why would that surprise you?

Doomsday wasn't a pipedream, it was a concept/idea. No evidence whether it is still or ever was a truly viable option for the park. The ride is nothing like Batwing, well no more so than using the argument that DW should never build another coaster because they have Cyclone

    Someone's bitter

Anyway, what I was saying was that if itwas not possible to have both WWF and the new attraction, I personally would advocate removing WWF and having the new attraction. Didn't say it had to happen, just saying what I would want. And I do believe that the area needs another attraction. It barely exists now. It's almost like they created the Western area just to not make WWF look stupid. There is genuinely nothing there... A few flat rides could be helpful, however I do believe that the next big project should be Western and that project should be a Coaster. It could have worked to actually make Green Lantern a Western theme given many of the already existing El Loco's were Western themed. Obviously land and space was an issue.

As for people living, I am surprised. It is not a great location in terms of noise and I have never seen houses so close to the parks.

And as for you sayig that I said Dreamworld should never build another coaster, you are obviously deficient as I was saying the polar opposite. Cyclone is a bad Roller Coaster by International standards BTW. And the idea is similar enough to Batwing IMO for it to be awkward. I know one is a free fall and one is a launch... Why not just build a Batwing equivalent next to the Giant Drop!

  6. As much as all of our rides have pathetically slow operations I do think MW do a very good job in peak periods. Just visit Fright Nights and go on SE and GL to see how quickly they churn through guests. It's just a shame they don't do it all year around. But in saying this, I have never seen anyone get close to the operations of California Screamin' in DCA, even on the quietest days they are ridiculously quick (and still would be without the 2nd platform).

Also, with the ticket prices I honestly think they would be more successful if the lowered entry prices for a single day to around 50-60 dollars and made VIP passes closer to $150. It's obviously not what we'd like to see but I think they'd get a lot more local visitors because $90+ for 1 day is pretty steep.

Smart. And the reality is that IMO you should have to go to a park 3 times for it to be worth your while. SO $60 and $150 doesn't seem too unfair for me. Especially if it's a VIP pass.

Another thing which I think could be beneficial for Movie World and WnW would be if they actually connected the two parks. Like had a Monorail or something. They could charge something like $80 or $90 and give you a joint pass for one day. If you got to Movie World at 10 and left WnW at 9 you could probably get in about 15-20 rides :)

Also, why does Movie World shut at 5 even in Summer? Something my family always does for WnW nowadays is arrive at 3PM in Summer and stay till 8 PM. All the rides except Surfrider stay open and the queues are non-existent. I would love to do the same at Movie World plus it would be cool to do the rides at night :)

  7. I don't want it to be knocked down, but is there any other space for a Western attraction. IMO it is more essential for the park to build a new thrilling Western attraction than keep WWF. There is really only 1 Western attraction...

Do people live out the back of WnW and MW  That surprises me.

As for Doomsday, I suddenly remember. But wasn't that a pipe dream? It seems stupid to have Batwing and Doomsday...

  8. Dreamworld could definitely increase the number of Roller Coasters. All of Dreamworld's Roller Coasters are really cheap cop-outs, with the exception of Tower of Terror which was built ages ago. If they stopped spending $6 Million to build Wipeout plus all the costs in maintaining it, maybe they will not only make a half good Roller Coaster but a few of them.

BuzzSaw is really a joke... They could have made the Launched equivalent and it would have been much better. MDMC is OK but is still a bit of a cop-out. Cyclone is now a joke really, another Arrow legacy coaster. The Madagascar rollercoaster is good for kids. That is literally all the Roller Coasters aside from TTII which is barely a Roller Coaster anyway.

As for visitation. Dreamworld brings in 1.3 Million a year on its own, SFMM brings in 2.9 a year with its water park (I know its not a huge difference). SFMM is cheaper and yet offers almost 4 times the coasters, all of which are longer, more expensive, well themed and actually intense.

Dreamworld's biggest problem IMO really is their spending of money on Flat Rides and the fact that they don't really value Roller Coasters. They've spent more on Wipeout than any of their coasters...

  9. I like you're passion kingdaka. But are you forgetting that MW/SW/WnW are under the same ownership? Why would WnW put a large thrill ride/coaster in, when MW is next door? That's confusing their offerings, and on top of that, 80% of people visiting WnW are likely on VIP passes anyway. SW is different in the market it caters towards, which largely isn't the thrill seeker, so again is not their priority. MW is VRTPs thrill park.

I know :D I was just joking. I do think that a SheiKra style Western Themed Ride should be put in near Wild West Falls :)

  10. Mr Me, the picnic area is not all that big.

And also a Eurofighter would be a great for for LPS but it isn't going to most likely occur.

There's that gap in between the apartments and Coney Island, so the new coaster could connect to the Tumble Bug area.....

But that isn't going to happen.

The best option would be an El Loco or another compact coaster less than 150 ft. A Eurofighter ticks all the boxes. An El Loco would be a great idea. An even better idea would be a ZacSpin or a Volare(that was sarcastic).

It would be stupid to name a ZacSpin "The Big Dipper" as that really only applies to a sit down coaster.

Also a GIB would be too big of an eyesore considering it needs to be shorter than the Hair Raiser, their drop tower.

What does GIB stand for (sorry it's late :D)

An El Loco would perfectly fit the profile for "The Big Dipper".

I think it would be great if they did this:

    1. Moved Spider to Tango Train

    2. Shut Tumble Bug

    3. Built Superman Clone where Flying Saucer used to be with Soundproofing hopefully taking in some of the cliff area so that the attraction could be seen from the entrance, the foreshore around the bridge, and for people walking down from Milsons Point station as an "entry ride". A slightly smaller clone version could also be good.

    4. Move Ranger and Power Surge to Tumble Bug area.

    5. Make better use of Crystal Palace.

    6. Build a Maurer-Sohne coaster using parts of Coney Island if possible for viewing, extra length, and just a bit of fun + Maloney's Corner + Picnic area.

If they did that, Luna Park would become EXTREMELY popular and they really wouldn't have lost any rides. I liked the Tumble Bug and Flying Saucer, but I would prefer 2 coasters + Power Surge :D And also that allows many of the HUSS rides like Ranger to still be replaced :)

    Here is a photo

I remember a ride like that at the Easter Show. Actually super fun, much more than it looks :)

I heard that GLFF's cars were weighted differently to other Zacspins' cars to change the amount of maintenance it requires, making the ride more jolting. A Zacspin could work nicely out the front of Movieworld, opposite to GL. Maybe a Harry Potter themed Zacspin?

EDIT: Here's a picture to show you what I mean. Sorry for the bad quality.

That would explain why everyone loves Insane at Grona Lund...

  11. MWs next thrill ride could be in the western area. Or the Doomsday ride gets put in...

    Doomsday?

I think it would be really cool if they either knocked down Wild West Falls and built a SheiKra equivalent or even better somehow managed to have them both. BTW, is there any way to get people up to the Wild West Falls area where all of the snaking takes place? It's actually a lot of land... Is there space there?

  12. who owns the picnic area around the back, because if Luna was to buy it instead of a coaster the park would have a lot more room for expansion.

    Very true...

Also, are there any unused ditches in LPS which could be useful for a "head-chopper" drop or something? It would be amazing if they could build a Winja's type ride that uses both Coney Island and Maloney's corner. That would allow a significantly longer ride :)

  13. Is this enough of a market to chase and be financially viable for new attractions though?

    I would have thought not.

Maybe not for Sea World but definitely for Wet n Wild. Surfrider to this day still has one of the highest patronages. The fact that I still queue for 30 Mins despite it having the highest patronage is indicative. Kamikaze and Aqualoop are similarly popular. If they introduced a one of a kind thrill ride it would definitely take off. Even better, build SheiKra where Mammoth Falls is :D

  14. El Loco is a pretty good idea. Pretty compact and a really good ride.

And if they could get the world record (I know it's hard and expensive) that would be an AMAZING selling point for them...

I would support a new coaster in Maloney's Corner but consideration has to be given on its size. Maloney's corner is a very valuable piece of real estate for LPS to be taken over by one ride only. There would be very little room to relocate the other rides within the park. That is why the Tumblebug slab would be the preferred option for any new coaster IMHO- it would leave more room for other attractions and allow more flexibility. It's another reason that I feel that a smaller compact coaster would be successful.

    A Skycoaster replacing Flying Saucer?

    What a positively horrible idea.

Do you really think? That area of land is so long and thin and that is not as good for a roller coaster IMO. And you could move Ranger to Tumble Bug, put Spider where Tango Train is and then scrap the rest...

One thing I think we can all agree on is that if they get a new coaster which they need to it will be a car coaster, not a train...

Who cares about the residents in the adjacent buildings. They bought those apartments. And anyway... They are powerless when it comes to LP rides. LP has more power. So they could add the worlds loudest coaster and put it right next to the buildings and LP would still get away with it.

    What exactly are the conditions...

Just looked this up on RCDB. Looks very impressive. This is the ride DreamWorld SHOULD have got. Would love a clone for LPS but options would be very limited as to where to position it. The only 2 positions off the top of my head where it could go are:

    1) Out the back in Maloney's Corner directly parallel to the back of Coney Island

    or

    2) The ride looks like it has a very narrow footprint and is 863 feet in length. It COULD be a perfect fit for the space that runs in between the Tumblebug slab/Big Top area and the cliff face. This is currently used as an access/maintenance staff corridor but these could be moved further down. Its not that long that it would not encroach upon the current LPS offices and you could have access and the queue line go up and over the Tumblebug slab. It is quite tall at 150 feet versus the previous Big Dipper at 131 feet but if it was positioned in this corridor then half of the ride would be enveloped by the cliff face on one side and the Big Top on the other, so screams and sounds should be quite localised.

All in all a winner!!! Hopefully LPS is listening to our suggestions!!

This is the perfect example if you wanted a RollerCoaster on the TumbleBug area. Would be kinda cool to have it over the ocean though :D And yes Dreamworld should have gotten this instead of BuzzSaw.

  15. Seeing how popular the VIP Passes and such have been over the past few years, I couldn't exactly see them offering those for a higher price then what they currently are. If anything, I would see the parks adding more up-charge attractions, ramping up the prices for special events (Screamworld, Fright Nights), or just adding more opportunities to spend money in the parks (e.g. more food and beverage, merchandise).

It's a real pity because the parks could have some spectacular rides that could be competitive with those overseas but the parks just don't have the capital in order to make a "Twisted Colossus".

I agree. I feel like this could all be solved, however, with just teaching ride operators a quicker procedure. That's just my two cents though.

I agree with all of this. Many of the ride operators at Movie World are simply inadequate. The turnover on Superman in particular IMO could be a lot faster. I see no reason why the train should ever have to wait at the unloading station.... And yet it always does...

As for the capital, I understand why Movie World wouldn't be able to build some big coasters, but surely Wet n Wild could replace rides and Sea World as well...

  16. Yup, Jobe swears blind there is no room for a Eurofighter there unless it's a custom, which would be double that price at least. On the other hand, the Abyss is a great ride and everyone deserves to live in a city with an awesome little rollercoaster in it.

A custom wouldn't be double I doubt... And it is a decent sized peace of land. They could take some of Coney Island as well at the back.
