    I’ve been to the park multiple times, and Madagascar is definitely the weakest area of the park, the attractions are poor and doesn’t add anything to the park. Minions are so popular in the shops throughout the park, so look forward to seeing that come to life.

    I can see the Nintendo Land replacing Water World as that area of the park is quite expansive. The show was already beginning to loose elements such as the iconic plane scene when I was there late last year.

    The plane scene is gone???

  2. The location of the lockers/exit store on SE has always bugged me - they don't let you bring any loose items on the ride yet when you disembark, you exit through the store but aren't able to buy anything anyway until you get to the locker. By which time, the euphoria of riding SE has probably worn off or you're distracted by something else to even want to return back to the store. Even if you wanted to get your picture, you go to the locker, get your wallet/Photo Fast Pass then return to the store only to wait in line because another group is purchasing something/checking photos. By which time you say, screw this, lets go and check something else out. Not a smart way of making money methinks.

  3. Okay, just doing last minute checks before I finalise bookings but was suggested by a friend I look into Airbnb accommodation to save some money - what's people's opinion on this? I've never used them before so not sure what the experience/procedure is like but from what I can understand of it, its people's private homes that they offer up for accommodation? I'm reading some conflicting reports that Airbnb is actually not allowed in Singapore but yet there a numerous listings in Singapore for them - apparently some rule about registration of property as accommodation premises and only allowed for stays in excess of 3 months.... etc. What's the risk of staying in an Airbnb listed property in Singapore, if any? How does it compare to say apartment accommodation on the GC (like a breakfree property)? We've actually decided to stay for an extra 2 days which would bump up accommodation costs if staying in a hotel so just trying to explore all options before we pull the trigger.

  4. For those who've gone to Legoland Malaysia, whats the best way/time to get there? I understand there's a 1.5 hour wait at the border? So that would suggest leaving early in the morning to get to the border for processing, spending the day there, then returning in the evening. Do we have to wait at the border again in the evening for processing? Would be a very long day for the kids. Would we be better off just staying a night at Legoland? Or not enough to do to justify the expense?

  5. After hitting the GC every year for the last 10 years or so, the family has decided its time for a change (that and the fact that the GC parks are in a shambles at the moment with their offerings). So we are planning on hitting Singapore next year. After doing some research, here are the things/places we'd like to try/visit:

    * Universal Studios

    * Singapore Zoo/River Safari/Night Zoo

    * Gardens by the Bay

    * Orchard Road shopping

    * Sentosa Island Aquarium/Luge/waterpark

    *Pop over to Legoland Malaysia (if time allows)

    So just wanting to get some travel advice before I start booking everything.

    1. Is there a ideal time of year to visit? Taking into account we want to avoid any major holidays and busy periods and bad weather. Also costs 😂

    2. How many days would be considered enough to see all the above and then some?

    3. Are there any websites that you can recommend for themepark/transport/attraction tickets/travel bookings?

    4. How much time should we allow for the above individual attractions? I understand Singapore Zoo/River Safari/Night Zoo are all next to each other - can these all be done in a day (albeit a long day)? Can Universal Studios be knocked over in a day without rushing about or would 2 days be more ideal to take in all the park has to offer?

    5. We are going as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids under 12) - is there anything not listed that anyone can recommend we add to our itinerary?

    6. What's considered the best way of getting around - MRT, taxis, buses, hire car?

    7. What's the best area to stay in close to public transport, shopping, restaurants and attraction.

    I'm sure I'll have other questions but this will do for now - thanks in advance!

    One of my favourite souvenirs to pick up at a park is a polo shirt. I live in polo shirts, so i'm always looking to add to the variety. The parks always used to have quite unique offerings in this area, but now there aren't many options - and the option they do have is the same shirt with a different logo (eg: sea world sells it with a dark shark sillouette, movie world sells the same shirt with a black and gold movie world logo). On my last visit there was maybe one other option - same shirt style, but in a different colour, with the sea world logo in white, but no other options.

    There's always plenty of t-shirts - and sure, t-shirts are easy to spit out mass produced vinyl printed imagery for any random event you decide to throw on - but put a little flavour into something a little classier. Make them a limited batch for each event - even if they sell out early - i guarantee there are people out there who want more than just another t-shirt (plus the collar is more sun safe too!)

    THIS!!! I live in polos too, and would love a polo option, especially in polyester! I only have 2 polos from VR themeparks, one cotton from MW (purchased over 10 years ago) and one polyester from Seaworld - the cotton has since turned to a threaded mess (cheaply sewn together, threading and stitching came apart) but the SW one lives on after 8 years. *memories*

    Maybe.  I don't think $139 is unreasonable for locals, especially for what one pass includes and that it is 12 months rather than locking until June 30...but this is how they could end up with less revenue. Pretty sure most locals could happily take a 6 month break, no need to directly continue your pass.  So they're getting $139/18 months rather than $99/12 months.

    The kicker here though is about holiday makers.  Pretty easy to buy the VIP pass for $99 and then let the kids go to the parks 5 out of the 7 days on the Gold Coast.

    Now, you buy a two day pass for $119-stuff paying the extra $80 to make it $199.

    What have the parks lost?  3 days of revenue, probably $40 a day for $120.  They gained $20 at the gate, to lose a heap through F&B...less food sold, makes the food operation way more marginal.  Where they used to spend $300, they spend $200 and then spend $100 elsewhere.  No shortage of other activities that will happily take your $$$ on the Gold Coast.

    Or you buy the 12 month pass and visit a week earlier next year, so they get $199x1 as opposed to $99x2 at the gate.

    Less visitors, means less need to spend a lot of time in the park-low ride wait times, also meaning no need for anyone to buy fastpasses.  There's plenty of potential pitfalls in their new pricing strategy and I'm guessing they've fallen into a few-it doesn't appear to be a slam dunk move to be profit accretive.

    Most of the 'consumer surplus' is captured in the first visit to a park.  I'll pay insanely more to visit a park for the first time, than to repeat visit.

    Being an interstate traveller and having just returned with the family from the GC, a lot of this I can relate to. For the last 10 years, we have always bought the VIP passes and spent 3 - 4 days at VR parks but this year, with SW not really having much to offer, we opted for the 2 day pass and visited MW on both days. In the past, with the VIP pass, I'd use it twice in a year, one for the annual family trip, then again later in the year as a stop over weekend returning from QLD for work. But the positive side to this is that it did allow us to try other attractions on the GC we'd never tried before so that was a good thing. That being said, I don't think $139 is too unreasonable - but that's a local price which I can't access. And after coming to the GC for the last 10 years, the wife wants a change and wants to go OS next trip so chances are we won't be returning to the GC for another 2 to 3 years. :(

  8. The last time I visited AOS was in 2016 and they were running the High Country Legends show then until last year when they switched to the Light Horse show and now back to the High Country show. The High Country show in 2016 had a helicopter prop burst into the main show arena whereas the 2018 edition doesn't. The shows are near identical story-wise except for a minor change due to the lack of the helicopter prop.

  9. Went to see the AOS show last week and noticed a major change in the production - what happened to the helicopter prop?? I last saw the show 2 years ago and this year decided to take the missus (who had yet to see the show) and was hyping her up for the helicopter which never eventuated. Did something happen to it between the last time they featured High Country Legends and last year's Light Horse show? Or is it just a case of VR saving $$$ by removing it from the show altogether?

  10. Sorry to dig up an old thread but due to hit the GC for the NSW school holidays and wanted to plan out the expenses - thinking of getting the Hunger Buster option but wanted to get an idea of what it covers. So for MW, a meal would be burger, chips and drink from Gotham burgers? Kids meals as well? And snack would be a scoop from B&J or a dessert option from Sweet Treats? What size coffee can you get from Village Bean, just the standard size cup? Are slushies considered a "snack" for the purpose of this deal?

  11. So sad to read the park is in such a sad state, next year will actually be the first year we go and have no intention of going to Dreamworld (although I will be stopping by the Lego store to pick up some exclusive sets). I'm hopeful that Dreamworld will make some out-of-left field announcement regarding a new ride or development but reading that article and seeing the pics doesn't give me much hope at all. Which is a shame because the staff were some of the best I've come across at any theme park, but the park in its current condition is just an eyesore.

  12. Yeah, the family and I have been going to the Gold Coast on and off for the last 10 years and I haven't done a single feature night (FN, WC, Carnivale) so it'd be nice to at least do one. Was hoping to do Carnivale this year until it got moved to SW so I guess FN holds the most appeal at the moment.

  13. I'm interested in attending FN next year if it continues but some quick questions for those who've been:

    1. I'm planning on going up with the missus who doesn't like major scares - would you class the scares at FN "piss your pants" scary, or "fuck, where did you come from, then laugh it off" scary?

    2. How long does each maze take to navigate roughly? Say for the average person?

    3. I'm hearing people say there's too much to do - assuming I skip the rides, can everything FN-related be completed by the end of the night?

  14. Awesome advice here guys - thinking of going to Singapore for the next family holiday as wife is sick of going to the GC for the last 8 years (next year will be the last visit for a while as I told her I want to ride DC Rivals). Legoland is definitely a must visit for me and the kids as we are all massive Lego fans so to see someone has actually been and given their viewpoint is great help.
