So the poor kid was 'decapitated' - on what? surely these 'net hoops' aren't solid steel...?

That's what I was thinking, surely that'd be bent more that what the picture shows if the support bar(s) were what did the damage.

The whole netting system looks like a cheap after thought.  The whole thing just looks dangerous, I'm surprised it was allowed to operate.

Coming up the hump at speed it would only take a direct wind into them to lift the front as the raft comes over the hump.  Once the air gets underneath it's air-time.

  2. Do the themes really have any relevance other than the sign out the front of it?

I'm not really into horror films but any mazes I have done there hasn't really been a tangible link to the film it's labelled as, other than the name - but as I said, most of the actual films I probably haven't seen, or it's been a while, so maybe they are 'just like the move' and I don't realise,

  3. If there were less people I'd be inclined to spend more in the park.

Last year we went to maccas on the way home, rather than buy in park, as the line was ridiculously long to get food (like something decent rather than a hot dog stand).

Anyway, no point debating all the 'what ifs' but the key issue is (imo), over crowding will lead to guest dissatisfaction and therefore a decline in repeat business - which isn't good for long term business sustainability, no matter what the business is.

Cyclone was awful for me when I was younger... the ear-banging really hurt. HWSW I find to be an enjoyable ride, just a little jarring in parts.

Isn't it the same ride, or do you mean it's more enjoyable now that you're older (or the new train)?

After going on it at the weekend I don't think I'll bother again. Oh, and the audio wasn't working,

Not only is it a mission to get to the station, walking around and around, then the ride is poor, then walking all the way back down.....

    No thanks.

  5. I just hope they limit the numbers more, and compensate by putting it on more nights.

I've been either three or four years in a row and the crowds seem to be getting worse.  The queues for anything were ridiculous, especially when you consider the limited time frame it's open.

Last year a maze was 1 hour wait and so was AA, that pretty much swallows the majority of the night after you include walking around, having a snack etc. Two years ago it took 45 minutes to get out of the car park.

I dunno if I'll bother this year, although I'm sure my daughter will talk me into it.

  6. This maybe off topic, I'll move/delete if necessary - but I have read that the GD brakes are pretty much fail safe as they don't rely on power or moving parts to work, rather some fancy magnetic set-up slows the decent.

How does the passenger carriage get pulled through the brake area on the way up if the magnetic brakes are already in place?

  7. I dunno, I'll read it again later but it seems a little one sided, much like the media's one side reporting.

To be a bit more balanced I think it should touch on that accidents do occur, even with safety protocols in place .  For example, such as two trains colliding such as Alton Towers (Smiler) but the article explains why this can't happen, even though it has.

Suggesting stoppages aren't terrifying for some is a generalisation.  Maybe for riders that have a fairly intimate knowledge of rides and how they work would be ok with it but the general public (who are the majority of riders) are a different story.   As much as I know these rides are pretty safe, being stuck at the top of the Giant Drop would be scary for most riders (how long are we stuck up here? How do we get off? Will the brakes still work? Do they know what's wrong with the ride?) to suggest it's not isn't fair.

And I don't think computers make decisions, they work on instructions.  Unless the rides use some fancy new Skynet.

I'm sure I'll torn to pieces for making these comments!

Yes I was slightly surprised Movie World chose Green Lantern as the focus.

Maybe because it's a highly visible ride and has been subject to a few reports over the years.  Maybe MW wanted it on that one too as it's the most advanced in terms of safety, systems etc (I'm assuming this as it's the newest, but could very well be wrong).

  9. Well there you go, I'd never heard of that happening before.  However I did think it seems to cut it fine with speed (as in, it only just seems to make it) going over the top hat.

Has Superman rolled back with passengers, or only during testing?

In regards to Top Thrill Dragster, wiki says this about roll backs:

"On very rare occasions, a combination of the weight distribution of the train, the force of the launch, and the wind can stall a train on the top of the tower. When this happens, a mechanic takes the elevator to the top and pushes the train down the hill. "

The old fashioned give it a push to get over lol

Back on the topic of theme parks caring - my daughter had her arm strapped (just tape on arm, no sling or cast) from a minor volleyball injury and was rejected to go on AA at MW.  She was told to go to customer service on main street for them to check her out and give her a wrist band to show which rides she can and can't go on.

After they gave her a band, they also gave her a fast pass to SM that we could all use, 4 of us in total.  They didn't need to give us anything, but it was a nice way to ease the pain of being rejected off AA after waiting a while.
