  1. From what I hear you have to have your bronze and be 18 to be a lifeguard at WnW.
Yeah that would be correct. At the moment there is only one lifeguard quailification available and that is the bronze medallion plus first aid plus oxy-viva. This allows you to work at any pool or swim centre, if you want to work as a surf lifesaver (lifesaver at a beach) that is another qualification again. 2. Finally a qualification that is appropriate to water parks. When I was at Wonderland I had to go through the Bronze Medallion qualification which was absurd as part of it is a 400m swim. It was absurd considering Wonderlands main pool was was only 1.2m deep, so you could walk across it. "The Bus is now leaving for Rosebud Lifesaving Club, Victoria"

  3. Friday night draws 27,000 schoolies November 25, 2006 12:16pm Article from: AAP Source ABOUT 27,000 schoolies partied on the Gold Coast overnight with many intent on seeing the sunrise. With interstate school leavers expected to arrive today, the local schoolies were mostly well-behaved last night. "Generally, we have been seeing the crowds slowing down after around 1am (AEST) but today revellers seemed to stay out right up until 5am (AEST) when the nightclubs closed," said Acting Superintendent Jim Keogh. Considering the crowd numbers and their endurance, police arrests were minimal, police charging only one female and 13 male schoolies – mostly for public nuisance offences – he said. However, toolies again posed a bigger problem for police, with 72 people arrested for mostly public nuisance and drunk offences. The numbers of non-school leavers being arrested is almost double the number arrested last year. Among those, a 20-year-old man from Brisbane was charged for allegedly climbing an amusement ride in Surfers Paradise around 2am (AEST) today. Police noticed the man on top of the 12 stories high "Para Now" ride. Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Officers were about to get to the man with a cherry picker when he climbed down the structure, police said. The man has been charged with climbing a building or structure without reasonable excuse and is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on December 7, 2006. In Surfers Paradise a 23-year-old Sunshine Coast woman fell from a balcony. She fell from the first floor balcony while trying to climb across to a nearby nightclub just after midnight, police said. She did not sustain permanent injury and was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital.
Police praise schoolies, criticise 'toolies' By 7News Police say they are happy with the behaviour of most Queensland school leavers after week one of celebrations in Surfers Paradise, blaming most of the trouble on older revellers. The actions of older revellers have caused a night many would rather forget. Police have pleaded with non-school leaver, or 'toolies' to stay away from Surfers Paradise, hoping to avoid drunken altercations on the streets of Surfers. Surfers Paradise often experiences problems with drunk and disorderly conduct but even senior police were disgusted by the events of last evening. On the final night of celebrations 27,000 party-goers packed in to Cavil mall in Surfers, where a 22-year-old allegedly climbed a 12-storey-high amusement ride. "A 22 year old reveller sparked a full scale rescue after climbing a bungee tower in the city centre," Jim Keogh of the Gold Coast police said. The man has been charged and will face Southport Magistrates Court on December 7
It looks like SkyHawk has finally been used by someone, the ride now known as the Parashooter has been sitting dormant at Flycoaster for sometime now. "The Bus is now leaving for Climbboys Hill, NSW"
  4. Hello i am not having a whinge jerk one of my family friends did work at wonderland and is still having a hard time finding work now. And if i want to write something on here i can if i want to.
If i want to write something about i can if i want 2
Yes you have every right to write something here as that is your right, but there is no need to repeat yourself. You obviously have issues relating to Wonderland still and it may be time to see someone about that. As for your friend, who is still having trouble finding work, maybe he/she should look for a job that suits their skill level. I know numerous people from Wonderland from several different departments that have had no problem finding work. "The Bus is now leaving for She's Right Well, Western Australia"
  5. Way to bring a topic back from the dead. Anyway, I lost my job at Wonderland due to the closure at the time of the announcement it was a bit of a shock, but to tell you the truth we all saw it coming so most of us were not too badly effected and seeing as they gave us some notice that the park was closing and it wasn't just a case of turning up one day to the find the gates closed, there was no excuse for any employees not to find a new job or a least have a very good look for one during the time between the announcement and the close date. I was there for nearly 5 years and while it was a fantastic time in my life (well most of it), I am glad that I no longer work there. Since leaving I have got the best job and have increased my income by more than double, and I work less hours than I did at Wonderland. 6. Disney hunts mucky Minnie October 19, 2006 - 10:12AM Source The Walt Disney Company has lodged a furious complaint over a saucy joke video doing the rounds on the internet, shot by staff at Disneyland Paris in the guise of well-known cartoon characters. In the film Mickey Mouse's trusty companion, Pluto, is shown spanking the chipmunks Chip and Dale, before joining Minnie Mouse and the Snowman for a cheeky, simulated "menage-a-trois". Calling the naughty flick "unacceptable" and "unforgivable", Eurodisney's management has promised to find and punish those responsible for the film, shot illicitly on the grounds of the giant theme park outside the French capital. A union official said the pledge to crack down on the filmmakers - two of whom appear bare-faced in the video - was sparked by an angry protest from the US parent company, which owns 40 per cent of Eurodisney. Released online, the video was made available on Dailymotion and in the adult section of the Youtube video exchange. AFP
Bad Goofy gets it October 16, 2006 - 11:03AM Source The Walt Disney Co said it has taken "appropriate action" against employees at its Paris theme park who were caught simulating sex while dressed as Disney characters in a digital video that has received wide attention on the internet. Disney would not say whether it had dismissed any of the costumed employees featured in the grainy video, which appears to have been shot with a hidden camera at a backstage dressing room at Disneyland Resort Paris. "The behaviour shown on the video is unacceptable and inexcusable," Disney said in a statement. "The video was taken in the backstage area not accessible to guests. Appropriate action has been taken to deal with the cast members involved." The video shows Minnie Mouse struggling to free herself as she is grabbed from behind by Goofy and then a giant snowman. Disney characters in orgy video October 13, 2006 Source The Walt Disney Co. yesterday said it took "appropriate action" against employees at its Paris theme park who were caught simulating sex while dressed as Disney characters in a digital video that has received wide attention on the internet. Later, Mickey Mouse simulates sex with the snowman and Goofy does the same with either Chip or Dale, the chipmunks, as laughter is heard on the tape. The tape is described on the internet as the "mouse orgy." Reuters
You can watch the video at YouTube. I just had a bad thought about a video with the cast of Action Man or the Marvel Heros (except Electra), the Flintstones wouldn't have been to bad except for Fred and Barney. "The Bus is now leaving for Mount Minnie, Tasmania"
  7. We will remember what Australia's Wonderland Sydney was all about having fun.
Yes, let's dance around in the mud (usually dust) and dodge the heavy machinery that is developing the site. Sounds like a heap of fun to me. **Please note sarcasim** "The Bus is now leaving for Merry Dance, Western Australia"
  8. The GD brakes the same way the Probe did (does)
Is there something you're not telling us Dj? From memory the magnets were on the Space Probe gondolas and the fins were on the tower. Every so often you could see where the black paint was coming off the fins exposing the copper under it. "The Bus is now leaving for Painted Point, Victoria"
  9. You can guarantee that Jamberoo would loose more water per day than a golf course would, as there are large areas of water in direct sunlight. Sunlight plus water equals evaporation. To give you an idea of how much water can evaporate I saw a show about the Murray River and one of the dams experiences 2 meters of water lose per year through evaporation alone. Also you can pull water out of the ground, it's called a bore, which a lot of golf courses use. Anyway back one topic, has anyone had any luck digging up and current or scrapped plans for either of the parks? "The Bus is now leaving for Murray Bore, Western Australia"

  10. Wonderland had a department, funnily enough called Wardrobe. It was located at the operational staff entrance just outside the locker rooms. It had every piece of clothing required and a lot that wasn't. It contained all of the old uniforms from when each area of the park had a different uniform, all of the character outfits, space probe overalls, lifeguard uniforms, shoes, hats, name tags, plus much more. The ladies that worked there would do any alterations required to your uniform. If you forgot any piece of uniform you could get a replacement from them for the day, at a cost of course. I have a bunch of old uniforms that I obtained just before the park closed, including several full Space Probe outfits (overalls, belts, hats, name tags). 11. Wonderland's corporate offices were in the back area of the park. If you were in the main shop at the front of the park, facing the park, the offices were on your right hand side. Access to these were through the staff entrance (post). The CEO had the only second story space in the park along with a nice board room. Below his office was his private garage for his Merc coupe. 12. As you probably know there were 4 CCTV camera's around the trough of Snowy. These went back to the operators booth. Anyway the operator saw someone fall over the side of one of the boats at the second set of water spouts. The operator did the right thing and hit the e-stop and contacted security. I was the Beach supervisor at the time so I grabbed a oxy-viva and ran to Snowy. By the time I got there the other supervisors and managers were talking to everyone in the boats, which were all in the dock area (bottom of the lift), to find out who was missing. After several minutes it became apparent that nobody knew what had happened. We spoke to the operators to find out how many people had been in the boat or if they knew which boat it was. It became apparent that the boat in question had two girls in it who were about 12-14 old. When we asked them about it again they were very reluctant to tell us what had happened. When they finally did it turns out that one of the girls hats had blown off into the water. What the operator had seen was the girl leaning over the edge of the boat to get the hat back. It turns out that the hats was her Dad's and when she had left home in the morning her Dad had told her not to bother coming home if she lost the hat. In the end the whole trough was drained including the dock area and a complete walk of the trough was done just to make sure that no one had actually drowned. In the end the ride was closed for several hours and didn't re-open that day. It seems like a lot of bother for just a hat but we had to make sure that no one had actually gone over into the water. 13. Yes golf is that popular. Thousands of tourists come to Australia every year just to play golf. Look at how much money Greg Norman has made from golf, and hardly any of it was from playing. With todays technology for water conservation that golf courses have to use I would say that a theme park would use far much more water than any golf course would in a day, week or year. It's a shame if the response Supersleuth got is correct. The ad is still on the site so that seems a bit strange. 14. 2nd. The 2nd train wasn't broken.
How did you know this? You say in your edit on this post that the guy with the measuring stick didn't know so how would you?
3rd. It shouldn't matter what time i get there. My point is that if there was a long queue they should have ran 2 trains.
It does matter what time you get there. As I said in my previous post you can't just put a train on a go from there. You need the staff who are trained to operate it. I'm not going to go over it again so just read my previous post.
6th. I'm entitled to have a tanty if i want after all the park was busy and they should done something about it. 7th. I went to guest services and was told can't do anything about it.
Yes you have every right to have a tanty. See above and previous post for reasons they may have been unable to run a second train. "The Bus is now leaving for Tanti Park Primary School, Victoria"
  15. A very interesting find. I find it very strange that there has been no publicity or no one here, until now, has found anything about this before. Yes there has been spectulation of Disney at Homebush and Wonderland re-opening (that's a load of crap as we all know). I remember there was something around the time of Wonderland closing about the potential for a park on the old radio services land thats around the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Doonside Road. I've just had a quick look, probably in the same places as Richard did and was unable to find anything about it "The Bus is now leaving for B.H.P Radio Towers, South Australia"

  16. As Spotty said did you think that there may have been problem with the second train? Also, with most rides that have the capacity for two trains you can't just say, "Oh let's stick on the second train", and do it. You actually need the staff to operate it. Now I know that your currently thinking, "It's a holiday period, they should have thought of this before hand." Well they probably did, but people get sick or "sick" and it can be very difficult to get staff to come in on short notice (I know from experience) to cover the holes. Of all the people who are idiots at theme parks, the people who turned up with only 1 or 2 hours (or less) of park operation remaining for the day, who then complain because they didn't get a ride on this or had to wait more than a short time for a ride, those people are in my top 5 most hated (hated is probably to strong a word but at the moment it's working for me). "The Bus is now leaving for Sick Man Creek, Queensland"

  17. Yes the OH&S manager was the crazy Canadian, I don't remeber his name just that he was Canadian and crazy. The last couple of OH&S managers, who were also the park nurse, were much better than he was. I don't remember a red headed supervisor, my memory must be failing me. As for the operations supervisor who attended was S.M (male), S.F (S.P female), T.V (female, was actually training supervisor at that time I think), plus a couple of team leaders. All I can say is I'm glad Butter Bean wasn't the rides manager at the time. Looking to Daniel for a comment here. ;) "The Bus is now leaving for Canada Drop Down Creek, NSW"

  18. Ok Bussy, now I think I know who you are, did you go on to work for the major road construction based out in the carpark? Good memory about those rollers, I forgot about those - how could I as I had to put them back on and that was a dangerous job hanging out over the ground trying to locate those HEAVY metal rollers back into place. The cable actually whipped itself around those rollers as it shot past and ripped them right off the mountings. 1 of them was half buried in the grassy mound under lift 1.
Yeah that would be me. Sounds like a fun job putting all the rollers back in place. I remember the day after it happened I went up to the ride with the operations manager, maintenance manager and the OH&S manager and expained what had happened etc. I got to walk around and have a good look at the damage to the ride. I couldn't believe how badly damaged (destroyed is probably a better word) the brakes were, there were bits of metal all over the place. "The Bus is now leaving for Metal Creek, Queensland"
