But it's not just a continous track, its a mini city with quite whimsical theming.
After a safety briefing, kids get to drive around in minature cars.
A number of rides at Alton Towers have blatant sponsorship, this being one of them.
It does what it says on the tin.
In the station the boats are lifted slightly out of the water, so the guns don't work, and the ride ops aren't tortured constantly.
The horizontal barrels contain bullseyes to hit.  On other rides of this type, hitting targets deactivates water effects, giving you safe passage. On Battle Galleons, hitting targets turns on more water effects, so it is an odd incentive.
The queue is in the central pirate ship, which has the biggest collection of water cannons.
Scattered around the ride are forts where guests can crank cannons to shoot water at passing galleons. The streams of water look deceptivley weak, but even a few seconds of being hit will leave you soaked.
..With little things to spot like a circling shark.
The ride has a very well detailed pirate theme.
Battle Galleons is an example of one of the newer attraction concepts to hit the theme park industry....Guests riding in boats equipped with crank operated water guns, firing on bystanders, other boats, and special targets.
There are a couple of open lake sections you drift through.
The water does eventually get rougher, but the raft just bobs over the waves.
At one point you pass through a tunnel shared with the Runaway Mine Train.
