“Out of respect for the memories of Cindy Low, Roozbeh Araghi, Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett, and their deeply affected families, the ride will be permanently decommissioned. The closure of the ride is the only respectful and appropriate course of action".

while im sad to see another of the few rides left that i grew up with close

    this is the right decision

Is that personal speculation/opinion, or fact? I haven't read anything official stating that the ride will not reopen, and anything published by the media doesn't count.

Yes, I realise there is a big possibility that it won't, but then again, I'm sure a lot of people didn't expect to Mindbender or the Smiler to reopen after their serious accidents, either.

I honestly think the cause of the incident will be a big factor in the ride's fate, and that is yet to be revealed. We are best waiting for now, before coming to any major conclusions.

    Its personal speculation for now

Im sure once the course of the accident is known dreamworld will be given a plan of what is needed to be done to bring the ride upto date and stop this or any other incidents happening again

Im sure it will lead to big $$$ needing to be spent witch is why i feel a decision to not reopen the ride likely

As much as i dont wont to lose the ride

It would also be the right decision in respect of KATE - LUKE - ROOZBEH & CINDY

just my feeling towards all this

I dont think i would ever feel 100% rideing it again just knowing these poor soles lost there lives

If anyone gets what i am feeling

@JeffreyMoore I posted this earlier in another forum but I think is suitable for this form.

Keep in mind theme parks plan years in advanced. (5-10 year plans) MW might already be planning their next roller coaster for let's say 6 years in the future. Most likely 2017 and 2018 plans would have been finalised and contracts signed. Remember ride manufacturers want a deposit at least a year + before the ride opens. So if the rumours of a new slide tower at WWW or other changes at DW were planned for next year than they would have been signed and already had deposits paid for. Meaning it's to late to back out without losing a MAJOR deposit. Keep in mind AW paid their deposit and signed the contract for MI3 in September a year in advanced of the ride opening. MW new roller coaster would have been signed of maybe 1-2 years ago.

Yes i agree if there are any plans signed off

But any future big plans will be far off now i feel

As in a replacement for thunder river rapids etc if the ride does not reopen

    Is what i mean

No, Buzzsaw is definitely part of Gold Rush country, it counts.

Thats why they added a big saw to the Gold Rush sign.

Its part of gold rush yes but can remain and be rethemed to what ever rides - attractions that may replace the other 3 rides - gold rush theme

That said im thinking any new attractions - rides are long off

As dreamworld works on rebuilding its brand and trust

Unless Dreamworld themselves state that the river rapids and remainder of Gold Rush Country is going to be demolished how can we say its going to happen.

Until Dreamworld confirm about that we have no ground to stand on, it would be the same as saying the river rapids are going to re-open.

24hrs ago Dreamworld quite possibility wouldn't of had a clue when the park was going to re-open little own the future of Gold Rush Country and the River Rapids.

The thunder river rapids will not reopen

The thunder river rapids and eureka mountain mine ride  are part of the same structure so you have to remove both

They and the chair lift station form what is gold rush country 2 of the 3 rides have been sbno for 10 years

Its simple to say that they will all be removed if the thunder river rapids does not reopen

  5. 1 minute ago, themagician said:

But they haven't said at this stage about removing the Eureka and chairlift station. I was told by a friend who used to work at the park, and she said that the Eureka Mountain has been tested in the past and does have asbestos, and they did at one stage look into removing the whole mountain, but after consulting with specialists, they said that the whole park would need to be closed for a couple of days while they removed it. And then the surrounding areas of the mountain would be inaccessible for some time while they removed the rest of the mountain. Hence why it has never been removed.

the main reason it was not removed was becouse the thunder river rapids ride is under it

i don't see them knocking down the rapids and leaveing eureka asbestos or not

and the chair lift station will go becouse they will be removeing the whole of gold rush other then buzzsaw

    Also, from The Australian:

I believe this article is mostly speculation except the last 2 paragraphs & the fact DW expects to release a statement to the media on Wednesday. The ride they are referring to in the 2nd paragraph is Thunder River Rapids.

but its the best thing to do as a show of respect for kate - luke - roozbeh & cindy  RIP

will be sad to see the thunder river rapids and eureka mountain mine ride + the chair lift stations come down all the same

another big part of dreamworlds history will be missed

Thing is if a ride is well designed and maintained and age isn't really something that makes a ride more dangerous.  Sure you have to replace components as they reach the end of their service life, but just because a ride is old doesn't mean it's dangerous.  On the other hand, shoot the rapids at Cedar Point.

Replacing an older ride with a new one is fine too.  But we're still waiting for replacements for the Corkscrew, Skyway, Pirate Ship, Train and the Plunge.  Closing one of the few rides left in the park would be an incredibly poor move.

i don't think there will be any replacements for the skyway - pirate ship or train sadly

yes i dont wont to see the vikings revenge close too

Bermuda Triangle was my favourite ride. I was so sad when it closed

same but i was even more sad when they closed the great gremlins adventure at movie world and the looney tunes river ride to be honest

but looking at it now im sort of glad they have closed these older atractions becouse there is less chance of a incident happening like on the thunder river rapids with the rides been so old etc

It was a slow moving boat attraction that had some animatronic animals as well as a couple of live animals...  The boats were then removed and the "river" they went on was filled with concrete and it was a walkthrough attraction before being removed entirely...

it later became what was known as kenny land witch had few little kids rides - like electric ride on cars etc

it was removed to make way for nick central

I've read numerous suggestions now as well that when the failed pump reactivated, it may have caused a huge gush of water to have come through the conveyor belt end, which could have very well even what launched the raft up onto the empty one and (with its rear end stuck in the conveyor belt at the time) consequently tipped it up.

Once again, all media speculation. But I thought this to be a plausible explanation.

I guess we are all trying to play the scenario out in our head with different possibilities, just to try and piece together exactly what made it physically occur in the first place.

I don't want this to sound the wrong way and I admit that although it will likely never happen, but I confess that a small curious part of me wants to see the CCTV footage just to see the physics of HOW it happened. I'm still trying to get my head around it. But the rest of me doesn't, because I don't want to see any of the graphic outcome :(

as much as seeing the CCTV footage would help us understand this incident better. those who have seen the footage have said they wish to never see it again if they do not have too.

here's hopeing the CCTV footage never find its way into the public and on youtube etc as many other theme park incidents have in the past

The Australian publishing some interesting speculation.

    From this article of theirs:

And this article of theirs (I believe this is what they had planned for the site next to the Vintage Cars):

As we can see, future proposals are already under scrutiny even if they don't involve rides so it's very likely now that any future expansion announcements for all the Gold Coast theme parks are going to be postponed (unless of course, they are leaked to the media).

I think its very likely that both thunder river rapids and eureka mountain mine ride will both be knocked down shortly after the coronal inquiry is complete

  12. lets hope now that we know the parks not going to reopen until the funerals of the 4 killed have finished .

that the media now back off a bit and let the family's deal with laying there loved ones to rest and the police get down to finding out just how this incident happened .

and the rest of us can try and take in just what has happened for me im still just as upset by this as i was on tuesday afternoon. haveing grown up going on the thunder river rapids who knows how many times since i was 4 years old it has hit me hard this could have happened

  13. 7 minutes ago, Bailz said:

But what I'm saying is they might not have been sure if they should change it. But after this as happened, they are like quick let's change it. @Brad2912

in the long run Ardent - Dreamworld can do what ever they like and be it weather or not they are found to be at fault for the incident.

4 people died at the park and nothing is going to change that nor are anyone going to forget just what has happened

  14. 20 minutes ago, Jamberoo Fan said:

In case you're mistaken, this is not Tuesday's incident. This was last month & there were 7 people on the raft in the photos shown in the article I posted.

Everytime I've been on the ride there was no rotating platform.

I remember the rotating platform in the late 80's - early 90's but also do not remember when it was removed

But it seems removeing it for safety may have been what made it less safe leading to this incident been abel to happen - just how im thinking about now tho

  15. 21 minutes ago, Kussie said:

I don't believe it would have been possible to happen in the same manner back then.  That long ago if I recall correctly they still had the rotating platform for loading and unloading instead of the separated stations like it has now.  So rafts would have come off the conveyer and would have been constantly moving along instead of being stopped like they are now.

Though I can't remember for sure when the rotating platform was removed.

The rotating platform was removed for safety yet if it was not removed this incident likely whould not have happened  ?
