  1. I don't think your comments are wrong with regards to measuring ride operations success as time between dispatches, but like others have said, joe shmoe simply won't care; parks will though like you've said, more dispatches+more maintenance+more cost. I don't think your theory is on the extreme side of the conspiracy theory spectrum, but unless someone from VTRP speaks out, or a previous employee breaks an NDA to confirm/deny this, it will only ever remain a theory, on both ends of the argument.

I really hope the other train is broken.. but again there's not really an excuse when the rides down for a month now.

Just for comparison, when we went last easter break, there was only 1 train on Rivals and a 3+ hour queue. There was a sign up at the ride entry however saying something along the lines of 'due to circumstances outside our control this ride is running at reduced capacity'.

That wait time sign could use a spit'n'polish, at least try and remove some of the rust stains.

I'll just add this here too because I don't want to reserruct another thread - but Superman ops were really bad too... 4-6 min cycles

It's always been around 6 minutes in my very limited experience (compared to others)

At least the aircon is better in the (really boring) queue

Is that an addition? I didn't think there was any aircon, just some dusty-ass fans.

VRTP - please find ways to mitigate ride operators shouting at guests.

I've pondered this, noting that DW seems to have a PA on every ride that the ride OP in the control booth uses.

At MW, is it the 'more authentic' set experience to be yelled at (akin to a megaphone) and VRTP has just cloned this to SeaWorld?

I'm on the phone a lot for work, and often by the end of the day my voice is done just from talking, I couldn't yell like the ride ops do all day long.

In the Objectif Mars incident, the fire was extinguished by staff, and two women were treated by paramedics.  Their injuries could have been from inhaling smoke or from them panicking when exiting the ride, not from the fire itself.  Nothing about their injuries was reported so we can't know for sure.  We do know that they were treated by paramedics and not sent to hospital.

From the article linked in the wiki page above:

Two people had been slightly burned in this fire, they were both discharged from the hospital.

I'm not arguing here; I still carry a phone on me, despite all those Samsung's spontaneously combusting a few years ago. Comparing a Tesla fire to a roller coaster fault I feel is not fair though.

Snide remark: are the l-ion batteries the reason DCR doesn't have the cameras anymore and why the GL sound doesn't works these days?

The second (smaller) structure, I wonder if that’s a small kiosk/store replacing the one thats currently in the park (next to the park map) or if it’s control booth/exit.

I'd say ops booth and the exit just above it. The larger structure would be the entry queue.

but hopefully when the rides in operation, these structures don’t feel like they’re closing the ride in, as the main goal of this ride is to activate the entry and Main Street.

That's a really good point. You should have a good sight line from the main entrance in front of the globe and I'd imagine you'd be swinging up above the structure (or do these swingers not go that high?)

Anyone have the link to the original files?

I honestly don't see MW changing Superman to LSM's because it would be a very expensive overhaul, and it honestly runs perfectly fine with the current system.

Time will tell, eventually though parts will become scarce and it will go the way of ToT. By the time that comes around though hopefully it's time to replace the ride entirely.

    *sobs in Tower of Terror*

That was a win by default too... is that seriously the only time we've bested the USA in theme parking?

Edit: I guess we have backwards DCR and spinning Steel Taipan... but they're only gimmicks on a ride, not the ride itself.

When I was in the US last year I frequently heard that our very own Giant Drop and Falcon’s Fury over at Busch Gardens Tampa are the two drop towers that have the most revered reputation. Lex Luther and Zumanjaro may be bigger record holders but they aren’t as consistent or fun to ride as Giant Drop.

Didn’t get the chance to try Falcon’s when I was in Busch Gardens and I don’t think I ever will. That ride has some bad energy.

I fear GD whenever I visit. I've only ridden it once. I don't think Lex Luther and Zumanjaro leave you hanging quite as long as GD.

When we went to BGT last year I told myself whatever else happens I was getting on Falcons Fury no matter what.... and it was down for the day. Maybe next time!

Would be easy to tear out the four-stroke motors and electrify them or rehab the existing vehicles into a new control system.

Maybe so, but they'll still be assuming all of the risk in this case. Businesses want to be able to offload that responsibility these days (quote below for reference):

The train is a perfect example of the park looking ahead to modern technology built by reputable companies with the risk assessments done by third parties not invested in the outcomes

I can't imagine there's many companies out there well-versed in the retrofitting of T-Model Fords. But then again, if the rumours of TTD and Zamperla a true, never say never!

  10. We went from the 15th-22nd October last year. We did the Dreamworld Halloween experience on the 15th (Saturday) when we arrived, and did Horror Nights on the following Friday, the night before we went home.

There wasn't all that much that was closed during our visit; there was about a week or two between things opening/closing for maintenance.

GL/SS/DCR/SE/WWW/DD/SDSC all open at Movieworld (the odd unplanned outages for the usual suspects however)

SC/JR/Vortex all open at Seaworld (Trident/Levi not opened yet)

MC/GC/ST/SV/TS/Claw/SW/EFM all open (I think Tailspin and GD were the only closed ride during our visit).

We bought an annual pass for DW (it was cheaper when factoring the Halloween ticket), and we'll probably get another visit in this year sometime) and a 7 day 4-park pass for VTRP. We just park-hopped around based on what we felt like doing during our visit.

Make a priority list of the rides you want to go on, put them on a calendar as far as their maintenance is concerned, pick the times to go when they're available (noting that these times can unfortunately change).

Book your accommodation early as I found it was pretty much selling out a few months before our arrival time; we held off on a hotel booking we liked and missed out months early, had to book somewhere else instead.

  11. From my perspective Taipan edges out Superman purely through ride comfort and re-ride ability. After a couple of laps my shoulders/neck (and my wife's ears) are sore (bleeding) from Superman. It's rough and the OTSR's aren't soft.

I love the pre-show/launch on SE, but it's just not comfortable enough to enjoy multiple times a day. If they splashed the cash to get the newer trains/restraints (like Velocicoaster for example, which are much more like DCR/Taipan) I'm sure I'd have voted for SE.
