  1. Possibly controversial question here. Do you think that Scooby's throughput will be better/worse/same after the revamp?

We've seen improvements made to WWW that seemingly make throughput worse, due to changing safety standards. With new ride vehicles/ride system planned, I'm expecting it will be more reliable but will that come with a trade off of reduced capacity?

    All speculation of course...

  2. It's probably more than just buying speakers and throwing them in.

The park seems to have trouble keeping rides open consistently; they need constant attention (GL/DD). Im also assuming the same team responsible for fixing them are maintaining the rides too.

Id also imagine this kind of work would need to be done when the park is closed so they can configure/ adjust sound levels, and they might not have time to do this with the other maintenance going on.

They speakers might have a particular requirement that are rare to find these days or too expensive (for the budget allowed).

There might not even be a budget for their replacement.

Maybe management haven't noticed therefore haven't made it a priority?

MW might currently open the gate at 9.00am for people to enter the park but the guest can't ride to 9.30am.

In my experience you're allowed to line up outside the queue from 9, the ride ops arrive at the ride and start testing at 9:30, and the ride opens once testing is complete (which was at least 9:50 from one of the photos I had from my last visit standing in the pre-queue). For this to have happened with no paying guest impact, the ops would have had to test and have these guys cycled and done with filming before their normal open time (which was around 9:50-10am last I was there).

+1000 doubt Movie World would have brought ops in earlier to do this prior to their usual opening time. I would be gracious in defeat if they did.

You've all made me analyse this situation much more than I originally did/planned to. I honestly don't care about it that much, but now I'm just trying to make sure you're on the same page as me as far as how I've interpreted this playing out. The reality is it would have at most been two cycles (the same as testing) that would have impacted other guests.

  4. I'm not saying they directed MW to close the ride, but by virtue of them wanting to film, the ride was closed for them. My use of commanding was more around the definition of drawing attention or priority (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/commanding).

You will find the video was edited, recording for both forwards and backwards would have taken place prior to the ride opening for guests for the day.

This makes sense now that you mention it. Having watched the video again the ride was closed on both runs. The 'pre ride' discussions where they were lined up in a full queue must have been one of their non-filming re-rides, which threw me off.

How many people have been able to enter the park before it opens, ride Rivals 7 times in a day and get every other ride in?

Did anyone else notice when they rode forward Rivals was open (queue was filling up) but when they returned to ride backwards the ride was closed (queue was empty and everyone could be see queuing outside on the bridge).

I'd be filthy if I was a paying customer that day... Holidays are busy enough as it is without someone commanding a ride to be closed so they can film it. Even more so if I was to learn after the fact that they were gifted admission and an unlimited use fast track. At least they only let them film on 2 rides.

Upside is, these POV's are better (image wise) than the ones Movieworld had for Rivals.

  6. Personally I think motocoaster is completely out of scope for the project. When you look at those renders the entry sign perspective lines up with ABC world with Billabong in the background (just after the motocoaster entrance)

My theory: Dreamworld are keeping this open purely because they can't afford to close it at the moment. After which it'll be transformed in Phase two with the area between new Rivertown and Giant Drop. Whether the transformation is a retheme of the ride or if they sell and remove/replace will live to be seen. It's 15 years old now, they just bought a new train but who knows, that might have been a necessity to keep it operating.

As an aside, wasn't it voted the worlds worst rollercoaster? I find the restraints uncomfortable (average 6 foot build), loading slow and arduous, and the ride experience doesn't really make up for any of that aside from the initial launch and first couple of corners.

The Royal Palace of Oz (Green Palace) looks to be in the same spot as the Lethal Weapon preshow room where you watched a car chase/action scene. This room was bypassed when it was rethemed to Arkham Asylum. I believe this was often used in the Halloween events as well. Does any part of that building still stand, or will they/have they raze it completely and start the Palace from scratch?

Never rode it as LW, but is this the building you're talking about?

Looks like that one is still there too (behind the site sheds), infact they all still seem to be standing, with just the facades being demolished:

And it looks to still be there in the new render (its the building underneath those lighthouse things.

    ..at least that's my interpretation

  8. You got me!

Seriously though, they're still copping it in the public eye about the $3M that was 'stolen' from the Koalas for Taipan. Can you imagine the feeding frenzy the media would have? "Dreamworld tears out 3 year old attraction after 3M Koala fund was spend on roller coaster just 6 years after killing four"

They don't need to give them more ammunition.

  9. Two interviews with Greg talk about changes to Tiger Island. Linked these on the main thread but adding for context here.

Greg touches on the following reasons:

    • Having adequate trained staff to perform the interactions.
    • Changes enhances safety
    • Changing from 'full contact environment' to 'protected contact environment'
    • There will still be tiger presentations, but different as tigers and handlers will be in different spaces.

I guess I'm a little more optimistic, maybe they'll add in platforms for the trainers to stand on, kinda like how some parks do crocodile shows etc.

Could they be repurposing the TOT station zone? perhaps that is why they didn't remove those parts of the ride?

It has a toilet block in the lower levels of that building, I'd say that and it's proximity to Dreamworks has been the reason it wasn't pulled down earlier.

The only thing i wish was that MDMC was being rethemed to fit in more, but besides that i can’t wait for all of these projects to be open by the end of 2024.

Nothing to say it won't happen in the future. This is only 2 years worth of announcements, and they said they have plans for the next 5.

Loving the fact that Vintage Motors are moving (sort of) back where they used to be, they're so far out of the way at the moment.

Jungle Rush looks like its going to the right of the Billabong Restaurant building - so right where big red car / TOT station is now. Will be nice to see this area refreshed. Curious to see what is to happen with Tiger Island too as it looks like it will encroach on this area too. Unfortunately construction in the area will probably mean the train will close again.

Good to see some Parkz members nailing some of the speculation - DreamWorks retheming, having a ride open for the markets (I mean its not ST or Claw, but close enough!)

  12. What was the timeline for when the big ferris wheel was at seaworld? I don't remember one ever being there.

My first and only visit as a kid was circa 2001, I remember there being a Sidewinder roller coaster and the corkscrew/pirate ship. Our next trip was 2012 and they were demolishing the Bermuda Triangle,

I think sidewinder was where the sting rays are now. And from the looks of the photos that's where the ferris wheel was too.
