1: What was Wonderbuzz in regards to WS as shown in this Seven News report at 0:25:

    3. What did Wonderland look like from the M7?

    1. There are some folks from Wonderland History on here who can help you out more but from what I can gather it may have been some official wonderland fan-site sort of thing. A lot of the images are of rare moments such as demolition, park flyovers, insider information, etc. which makes me believe it was either sanctioned by the park when they knew time was up or its some disgruntled employees trying to salvage what remains.

    3. I used to live in Sydney when Wonderland existed and drove past a few times for visiting and when travelling through the area. If you look at this image it gives you a decent idea of what you could see from the M7 http://www.wonderlandhistory.net/sites/default/files/styles/media_gallery_large/public/Aerial-800-18.jpg?itok=sIftxy7D but Bush Beast dominated a majority of your view. There were also some water slides you could see and the Space Probe 7 peaked over the top of the park but due to the parks usage of foliage there wasn't much else from inside the park.

Also from the M4 you could barely see anything other than Space Probe from what I remember.

People would be outraged today if they had to pay those prices. To think 11 years ago the price for a 12 month pass for just one park is the same for all 4 parks today

It is pretty wild that overtime as the parks have expanded and improved their offerings that the passes have technically gotten cheaper. I'd say the justification is that the more people they can get through their gates the better but I honestly wonder whether it's a quantity over quality issue?

Also I agree that people would be outraged if they had to pay those prices for Movie World but I wonder why they got away with it back in the day. Has the quality of the park changed?

Well with a Dreamworld pass costing 99 dollars, and now only 50, I am not going to be impressed by higher attendance...

$50 is way too cheap for a season pass. Hell even $99 is. I honestly can't fathom how they make a profit with those prices.

  3. Do we feel that our parks need to embrace a different season pass scheme? I find it surprising that both Dreamworld and VRTP only offer very basic season pass offerings unlike a lot of parks overseas. Personally I'd be interested in seeing some more expensive passes introduced with discounts, further additions and benefits.

I believe the easiest way they could implement this is to keep the current season pass as the base offering so that the general public doesn't lose their minds over increased prices and then add 'levels' above that with increased benefits. For example you could leave the base One Pass at $250 which just includes entry into the parks, then have a Gold pass with 10% off food and merchandise for $350, and perhaps a platinum pass for $499 which includes unlimited entry into events such as FN & Carnivale, 20% of food and merchandise and some other exclusive offerings.

This means that their offerings essentially remain the same but for those wanting to get more out of the parks they can pay for it. Also I wouldn't be against them adding a cheaper Season Pass with block out days for weekends and holidays which could eventually become the base pass.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think our parks are fine the way they are or do you think they should start offering tiered passes?

What we really need in Australia is a new park to come along and completely blow joe public away with attention to detail and immersive experiences that way it'll force the other parks in the country to try a little harder.

100%. There is no reason to raise the bar when you set the bar in place in the first place. If VRTP released Atlantis as an entirely themed, immersive, world-class experience then it'd cause the rest of their property to suffer or feel dated so they almost have no incentive to do anything extraordinary especially when their primary goal is to satisfy shareholders.

  5. The list of 'what's on' doesn't really have all that much but 'free' rides at night is always welcome. It's interesting that for an event which is redeemable for free with season passes they don't seem to have a huge focus on uncharges like Spooky Nights. I wonder if they'll have more uncharges visible when you get there?

  6. Changing the name would probably have the opposite effect because people would see it as them trying to divert attention. Flynn is pretty spot on with a lot of what he's said. It'd be kinda like if airlines changed their name every time a plane crashed instead of identifying the root cause of the problem and fixing it.

Genuine questions, not stirring. I'm not a finance type person.

Did Macquarie Capital have anything to do with Macquarie Leisure (now Ardent)? As Robin Bishop was head of Macquarie Capital prior to BGH.

And what is a private equity firm? My impression is they buy something big, then split it into pieces then sell it for a greater profit.

From what I know the ELI5 is that they take donuts for $2, pump them full of jelly and then sell them for $4 as jelly donuts.

ummm BGH Capital is an Australian and New Zealand-focused private equity firm established in 2017 by Robin Bishop, Ben Gray and Simon Harle.

Yeah see Village are going to use the money to continue their planned capital investment which brings construction and development jobs to Queensland, they also have the doors open which creates more jobs.

Ardent plan to use the money to open the gate and cover the losses they have had from their past poor decisions. So none of that money benefits anything. Any jobs they make by being open is offset by all the people they have sacked.

If you kissed ass any harder you’d tear off skin.

Went to the website, red banner directed me to COVID info. Clearly states check the maintenance page. Maintenance page clearly shows closed rides so...

Straw man argument. We're not talking about the website but the app that is a requirement for entry.

Visiting the website is not required for entrance but having the VRTP App is which doesn't have the disclaimer. Why would the app which is required and will get more traffic choose to opt-out from a similar disclaimer to the website?

Haven’t seen said photos, so obviously not taking those into account. However you must have the VTP app on your phone to enter, and that clear as day shows the closures.

    Clear as mud.

To see the maintenance schedule you need to either click Info and then Park Maintenance or you go the Park, click 'Now Open' and then scroll down to 'Park Maintenance'.

If you go to 'Ride Wait Times' it doesn't even bother mentioning that any of the featured attractions are going to be closed before you get to the park. Every currently closed attraction is still showing in the list of rides with no disclaimer.

Under Virtual Queue it simply says 'Ride Paused'.

Even if you go to a closed attraction it just says 'Wait times will show when you're in the park'.

Also provided is the white corflute covering the usual ride closure sign that greeted us yesterday.

Yes I have read it, but you also have to look at the nature of Facebook commenting. Most commonly people only take to Facebook to make complaints, not compliments.
that particular post had around 100 comments, that’s still a small sample.

There are plenty of compliments towards the park in the post below.

Also 100 comments seems small but judging on attendance today and car park occupancy I'd say there was roughly 1000 guests in the park. If 1-in-10 guests felt the need to jump online and complain then you've got a problem. Disney didn't become the biggest theme park operator in the world because 1-in-10 guests was disappointed with their experience.

    Quote

Then you have to also consider the validity of the claims. As I mentioned, first hand I’ve seen the barrage of complaints over Covid related things from tourists visiting, all completely unjustified.

This was actually something I was surprised by. Whilst I saw a lot of guests not following the rules, when they enforced I actually didn't see many complaining. I've seen more people in QLD taking a relaxed approach to the restrictions than those over the border. I'm happy to wait for an empty elevator or in a line to get into timezone but the amount of people I see just going 'Why bother?' has been pretty astounding.

To be fair this is one persons review of people’s experience.

It’s also at odds with the many other reviews and smiling faces I’ve seen dotted around the internet from the park.

Why is everybody getting their undies in a twist because I provided a first hand account on my experience in the park? The only opinion I provided was on the expectation of the opening and why I felt guests were justified to be disappointed but everything else was based on what I saw around the park today.

Also the quote above is appalling from somebody who is meant to be fostering the community. What a sly, backhanded way of throwing away my comment because 'it's just one persons review'. See Facebook above and discover that there are plenty of others that are matching the sentiment of what I saw.

Though why should I bother even acknowledging your post? To be fair this is one persons response to my post.

It's also at odds with the many Facebook comments and reviews I've seen dotted around the internet.

Severely disappoint? Outside of GL being down, and no parade as that is banned due to covid, in what way are people being let down vs attending last July holidays?

Today Wild West Falls, Green Lantern, Superman Escape, Arkham Asylum, Parade (COVID-19 reasons) were down plus a few kids rides. From Sunday we can add Doomsday to that list with the carousel joining on the Sunday after.

Rivals went down for around 90 minutes and Batwing opened after midday with difficulties meeting its opening launch.  Also talking to guest relations they said virtual queue went down in the later half of the day.

I think that's a fair reason to be disappointed. Judging by the comments on the post below it seems the court of public opinions is also not really on Movie World's side either.
