  1. That is pretty much what I always thought had happened... at the time the maintenance cost too much, It could have been they just saw it was no longer feasible so when they closed it for it's annual maintenance they just kept it closed? And yeah I do tend to overestimate things like this... I'm not exactly sure what type of mechanical devices need to be working to get a cart along a track... such as winches and brakes etc. ...not only that but any debris that could have fallen on the track inside? Who knows I find it all very very fascinating though!... If the restoration does go ahead I'd love to go in there with the maintenance team and document the entire restoration process with a video camera Make it into a mini doco for YouTube... Interview some of the staff who worked on it... Dig up some archival footage... I think that would be cool to make
  2. Oh right of course... Didn't think of that. However I was also talking about them actually WORKING on the ride to get it into a running state...When were they working? We haven't seen workers go in or come out of there have we?... I mean surely after all these years they can't have just switched on the power and looked away praying it doesn't blow up as they very carefully push the RUN button! Haha
  3. Excerpt from latest article When was this suggested may I ask? I might have missed it looking through the pages of this Topic... Surely they couldn't have been through the entire ride unless they have been working at Dreamworld after hours? Either way if it is true then that is awesome!
  4. Hmmm... maybe Dreamworlds testing a new "waiting line" strategy? to send only a maximum of 2 riders in one mine cart through the entire ride causing a massive annoyance for line waiters... they leave due to disapointment and then Dreamworold can re-shut the ride due to "lack of interest"... Just a thought?
  5. 1. I respectfully disagree... We already have multiple examples of people on this forum asking staff and in reply getting an almost unanimous "not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN" So it sounds like if multiple staff have confirmed this than the big boys upstairs (in the clocktower lol) have already made the decision months ago to start the 'pre-production' stage as it were... 2. Is it that unbelievable that Dreamworld would want to spend the money and restore an old classic back to its original glory if not better? Have we not seen evidence of this already? Yes I do realise that the Wipeout hasn't been SBNO for pretty much a decade but they did put some effort into it... I mean who knows? The Wipeout could have been a sort of 'Feasibility Test' to see how well the public reacts to giving an old classic a revival and not just replace it... And if that's anything to go by than I think it we have our answer (apart from some teething problems). I mean they must have done some feasibility studies on this, pricing it up against putting in a brand new ride VS restoring a classic, they can't have just unanimously said that it was going to cost too much to restore it, but not actually know how MUCH it would actually cost... I think Dreamworld has thought seriously on this and are actually listening to there ticket holders. However I think if they are going to do this they will try and do it properly, it will take them a while to thoroughly collect data on the rides structure and building code updates as well as digging up old drawings and building blueprints to review... They might also bring in some people (or still have people working for them) who previously ran or built the ride to oversee some of the rebuilding they will probably (or definitely) need to do...... we dont know how much it has fallen apart inside... motors/chains rusted, the asbestos issue? etc...
  6. The wipeout has emergency stopped 3 times today and ends up like you see in the pic... right after the slow completely horizontal flip... the ride is meant to start flailing around randomly... but the left arm loses power on the way up after the coming down from the slow-flip... its kinda hard to explain but it definatly looks like when I saw it happen twice that the left arm loses power cos the right arm keeps going half way up then it stops and levels out slightly but not completely... leaving the people swinging in the position In the photo...
  7. I see... program 1 is still pretty awesome though! I'd never been on the wipeout when its done the diagonal lock inversion... only the horizontal one so that was pretty cool http://i.imgur.com/fvk45qy.jpg Just wondering in terms of where im positioned in this photo... is this where the main achor point (the main shaft) will be going in the ground? And the sky flyers will start in between the two rows or wooden poles? Would just like some clarification if possible
  8. http://imgur.com/nZqIhcj http://imgur.com/wKNs5G3 ust went on the Wipeout for the first time after its restoration... for some reason it seems a lot shorter than I remember it? Idk... still awesome with the water added and the water spray bursts! Sooo good!
  9. I was told by one of the park attendants that it is not gonna be ready by tommorow nights Screamworld... thats why I got my free ticket for September
  10. Took some photos today Couple more photos in the album of the Slide and the new Spin ride... http://s797.photobucket.com/user/thebttflover/library/Dreamworld%20Wipeout BTW it's too bad PhotoBucket shrinks the resolution of the photos, otherwise you could zoom in to that top photo like this!
  11. love the new Gondola ... A unique and originally cool look for a new Era in Wipeout History Haha
  12. Renewed my World Pass the other day... Going on Sunday to check out what's new... aparently I also get a free Screamworld Ticket because i renewed before June 30... Gonna Be Sweet!!
  13. Ah yes.. i confirmed that in this other video... it is a rope fence... a pretty nice one at that too... http://youtu.be/Hcoy4SJReM8
  14. yeah true... oh well im happy to wait... All this nostalgia about old rides makes me wanna make a documentary about the history of the park... get my hands on as much old commercial and home video footage as i can haha... would love to dive deeper into the old culture and look of the park and interview the management and get there point of view on where they see the park heading... EDIT: Also found some old footage of the Wipeout in 1994... for some reason... i could be mistaken... but it didn't have a fence around it? O.o http://youtu.be/4bal-EtNwok
  15. HAHA.. it will rain at some point... for some reason that quote is really funny to me lol! Just wondering about that beloved shark that went around on a track... Fluffy... how did she get that name? was she always called that since the ride opened? or was it a ride enthusiest thing that got her called that? Anyway, would love to eventually know for sure which other Ride is getting a makeover... although they probably won't start on the next one till they finish the Wipeout...
  16. I think they have completely removed that decking part but its still there in that photo since it was taken a week before they removed it... im pretty sure that blue shaded canopy is now where that deck was... The sand they have removed yes since i think they are gonna completely refill it with water
  17. Lol...if the purple line was the new fence line you would probably be hit by the ride haha EDIT: Just to clarrify, where the temporary construction fence is now is approximately where the old fence line was, and that blue line is where the new fence line is.. so at its furthest point its probably at least 3 meters closer EDIT2: Actually im probably dead wrong on that... the temporary fence would have to have been further back then the actual fence line when the started construction to give themselves room to work... so yeah i have no idea whats happening with that fenceline lol
  18. Going to renew my pass in the next day or so... gonna be there when this opens! Haha... I hope aswell that the shade isnt permanent because it looks like it kinda gets in the way... Also glad to see they did end up doing a "layered" look with the different shades of blue on the arms and counterweights... cant wait to see the paint job that the main vehicle gets!
  19. I'm thinking a Flintstones type ride where you have to gather up those rocks and peg them at people, that would suite this themeing well... whoever gets charged with murder due to blunt force trauma wins the game!! Talk about a Thrill Ride being chased down by the local police force! I also heard a bonus round could insue in the case of a tie, using the steel cables, you have to get your oponent tangled up inside them... then apply at least 10,000 volts to cook them up... Who ordered Medium Rare? Hahaha
  20. Lol, i didn't think of The Log Ride, that's also a good possibility, Eureka Mine Ride...well hey, it's ok to dream isn't it?
  21. Thanks Alex that's exactly what I meant, although originally I didn't explain it very well so I apologise for the confusion. The only thing I don't understand is what exactly are they doing? They put the lightest coat on the bottom and then the next two coats get darker, If they were going to do some type of 'whitewater' effect, (which would be a pretty cool effect, better then the original 'Light Blue' colour when it originally opened IMO) then why would they cover each shade of blue completely with another coat? Is it just a simple technique of theme painting that I'm not aware of? That uses this method in order two bring out all shades of blue later on? Sorry if my curiosity bores people Wow! That's really great to hear, I guess i'm not the only one that's glad we no longer have an 'Ogre's Swamp' next to Wiggles World. I wonder if they end up using that little island for something in the future? Since i'm pretty sure the Paddle Wheel (God rest it's soul) isn't coming back, you could do some pretty interesting developments with that little spec of land, now that's something to ponder on for a while... BTW, has anyone else figured out what the other 'Major Attraction' being restored would be? I've been reading through the Forums and found only speculation and wishlist's lol, TBH I'd really like to see (like most people on here) The Cyclone restored to the extent that TOT2 has with relayed lights, warning screens and sound effects. A brand new train that gives you more leg room wouldn't be too bad either, whenever I sit in the right seat my right knee just so happens to fit in a gaffer taped portion of the foam dashboard quite comfortably, but my feet are cramped up inside resting on the uneven floor... I'm only 6ft tall so i'm sure i'm not the only one with comfortability problems on the Cyclone, not to mention the rough ride that i've seen people complain about throughout the Forums, and they ain't exaggerations!
  22. Now that's interesting, that cream coloured concrete was added when The Claw was built in 2005 is that correct? Or was it always that colour around the Wipeout since 1994? Also, do you think they would be sand blasting it back to add a different type of theme to it? I agree it seems pretty interesting that they have that many different shades of the blue underneath... Although, I have a theory that they might be doing something cool to the paint at some stage, that they will do some sort of effect with the 3 layers that makes it look more water/wave like, I don't think they are doing the 3 layers PURELY for wear'n'tear reasons... but that's just my theory
  23. Oh yeah haha I forgot they announced that, tbh I was more leaning towards a certain gold rush country amusment thats SBNO.... but lets face it that aint gonna happen lol
