  1. Wild Mouse is heritage listed. Its for sure not going anywhere.

I know the park has invested quite a bit of money into retracking over the past year. Given the uniqueness of the ride all of this new track has to be custom made. I believe a few of the timber supports are getting reinforced too, and I think the trains have gotten updated restraints in recent years.

  2. I haven't even ridden tnt and i could say its better. KFF is a boring layout that's brutally rough, it was unpleasant in 2018 and couldn't imagine what its like now. Fingers crossed new trains/restraints have been bought with the refresh to make it a better experience

  3. Not to get into the semantics of it but i think it's safe to say a track switch and a turntable are generally interchangeable terms, whether its a simple track switch (a la most modern coasters) or an actual turntable (think Gerstlauer).

I think it's also a bit interesting to note that not one coaster listed on RCDB with a turntable listed as an element is a vekoma product. I think it'll be that track switch we see above being tested right now, possibly even sent straight to dreamworld from the factory like what they did with the tilt coaster drop.

  4. Lex Luthor would be my first choice because it literally sits metres away from superman, but Aquaman could easily work as a theme and is probably the most appropriate choice given the nature of the ride. I've always felt that corner has been more general DC than superman. After all, Arkham Asylum was sitting right next door for about 10 years so pretty much anything goes.

  5. This is certainly a well overdue upgrade. Next Generation was a poorer experience to the original ride, not fixing anything related to the coaster experience and instead a lacklustre effort at meeting fire safety requirements. Getting some of the theming fixed would be nice, especially at places like at the mirror scene or on the elevator. Retracking will make the ride more comfortable considering it runs in the dark and has so many pot holes.

  6. Wipeout still hurts but I can see why it had to go. It was old, and was rarely open in its last years. For it to run for 25 years is a great innings, when most parks could barely run it for 10. Ardent missed a huge opportunity to replace it with another top spin IMO - ocean parade isn't the same without it.

Loved Tower - but it was noisy and the restraints when they swapped the car around were awful. Never got to ride it with the t-bars. Riding it in its opening year when it reached the top would have been incredible.

While I'm here, will make mention of Lethal Weapon. Terrible coaster, but had some really cool theming, arguably the best themed coaster ever built here until very recently. Corkscrew hurts too, but Leviathan is by all accounts a brilliant replacement.

There were some concepts done up for a Starflyer to go in that space themed to Doomsday a good few years back.

I'm glad this didn't get built. Far too tall (was supposed to be taller than Giant Drop from memory), and too much crowd congestion for that section, you already had superman and arkham at the time. You'd be able to see the big tower from West, or pretty much anywhere in the park.

So, in the meantime, they're keeping the track standing, partially because there's no reason to remove it and the cost/effort of demolishing it isn't a necessary expenditure (not what the employee said), partially because they recognize the history of the attraction and wish to leave it up as an homage (what the employee said)

Christ just rip it out, it’s not coming back, and it’s an eyesore to leave it, just another one of the million other eyesores in the park. Leaving old crap sitting there for years used to be a dreamworld thing.

I'd build a whole new theme park in Sydney, a la Cedar Point. Main centerpiece would be a 400 foot tall LSM launched coaster, a la Top Thrill Dragster.

100 million would get you a dry ride expansion at raging waters. Big coaster, big family ride, and about 10 or so flats. Not a fully fledged theme park

Next big thrill ride frontier should be a flying coaster. Crowd pleaser, quality ride, highly reliable. Certainly not cheap though

Highly doubt it. Who even supports these 30+ year old monorail rides, when the people who built them no longer exist? Who would build a whole set of new rolling stock, which aren’t exactly the cheapest things to buy?

Unless work is seen happening by an eagle eyed observer (which would be a complete bombshell for me) I’d say the monorail is good as gone.

  11. A bit late but a few more

    SW:

Demo of part of the monorail track (probably not all of it). Relatively clear to me that it's not coming back.

Decision to be made with the theatre/castle/vikings area. Maybe demo next year.

Potential for surfrider to be installed in the back end of the year.

    WNW:

Removal of surfrider to be moved to sea world. Slide repaints would be a nice bonus.

    MW:

Other than the kids ride, not much. Construction of wizard of oz won't start till next year.

    DW:

Quiet year aside from what's already been announced. Stabs at dark for opening dates - but june school holidays for rethemed dreamworks, september for abc kids world + big red boat coaster, then december school holidays opening for dreamworld flyer. Demo of tower of terror station & current abc kids world to start

    WWW/LPM/GW/AW:

    Nothing.

    LPS:

Nothing. However, a replacement of the luna land banner with a proper sign would be nice.

    Adventure World:

Possible new ride, possibly a flat.

GL is also very good at being a family thrill coaster (even if the height restrictions says otherwise.) Without it, the line up would go RRRC - Scooby - Superman. GL creates a good middle ground and will create a great step up from the new coasters, as they will end up making the line up go RRRC - boomerang - Scooby - SFC - GL - Superman. I think GL is here to stay, DD has more chance of going imo.

If it has an inversion it's a thrill coaster imo. I like making similar jokes about Gold Coaster, but RCDB classes anything with an inversion as "extreme" for a good reason.

For most people, going upside down puts them off, especially for kids. Let alone something that hangs riders upside down for several seconds on two separate occasions. No wonder why Superman's popularity has endured for nearly 20 years after it was built.

The fact GL was just repainted a couple of years ago shows Village is willing to invest in it for the next few years. Repaints are not cheap.

Nothing is probably facing the axe right now - but the discussion certainly could be had for Doomsday within the next 5 years.

  13. I think it's pretty likely Surfrider is getting moved to Sea World. Imo they don't need that ride, it's filler taking up part of a plot of land yearning for a big family attraction. But given there's no evidence of it being put up for sale and the land clearing that's happened recently, it's pretty likely it gets moved there.

What a surprise…. Imo the next ride to go at movieworld will be GL its so unreliable it’s a joke at this point… MW really don’t have a ride you can  almost always Guarantee will be open..  dreamworld have that in ST . seaworld have that in castaway bay (wait really seaworld??)  .. movieworld have that in the fountain maybe??

That plot is begging for a joker’s madhouse themed raptor. Though I think something gets done with DC super villains next once wizard of oz is completed given how that sticks out like a sore thumb. Either a retheme of DD or a new flat. Green Lantern is a solid ride unfortunately victim to dodgy experimental trains that nearly killed people

Not gonna lie rethemeing Scooby Doo to a Matrix themed ride starting the ride travelling to Zion avoiding different robots and such.  Basically it ends in that Rave scene in Zion in the laser room and ends with Neo ascending, idk?

why retheme Scooby? i couldn't think of a more perfectly matched ip and ride for the role it plays - the family attraction parents & kids can ride together. plus you aren't going to retheme a ride twice - id say you'd be starting over on a from scratch family ride once the current theme gets tired. you'd be better off razing dc villains & studio showcase and putting up a new ride building there if you wanted to do matrix.

  16. Get this ride out of the gold coast.

Sea World deserve better than inheriting more of WnW's leftover scraps. I get it was supposed to go there in the first place, but still. The ride's pure filler there. Knock down the castle and you've got plenty of land for a really solid flagship family attraction such as a modern flume.

I don't see any evidence of it up for sale right now, but I think surfrider would be more appreciated at a smaller park like Funfields or Aussie World. Gumbuya even if there's some capex left in the tank. Could be a solid bargain.

I have thought of a possible scenario at Movie World. What if Warner Bros and Village Roadshow decided to cut ties with each other and Movie World was forced to be  rebranded to non-WB items? What would it rebrand to, and would it have a generic theme or would they go with Sony Pictures etc.

Village already have a deal in place with Paramount for Sea World so they are in a position to bring over those licenses to MW if they wanted to.

Tbh I think a modern toddler has more interest in BiP and Wiggles than Shrek, properties which remain relevant rather than being stooped in their parents nostalgia.

Dronkeys is being rethemed to Big Red Plane,  and I’m sure the Carosel will get some ABC characters

TIL Bananas in Pyjamas is still being re-run on the ABC in 2022. That's some serious inter-generational appeal given people who remember the original show probably have kids in the age group that ABC Kids attracts.

FWIW, it'd be worth it chasing the Bluey license if you're gonna stick with ABC Kids. Though it would certainly be an expensive license, and the BBC owns the rights to my knowledge. Missed opportunity for a Bluey dark ride taking over the old TOT station plot - which will probably be taken over by rivertown.

Shrek is not a family IP like it was 10 years ago. Most of the people that grew up with the movies are in their late teens or are adults.

^I would characterise MDMC as mediocre rather than straight out bad. But maybe boredom is even worse than the pounding you get from Vekoma, or a Volare or Gouderix (glad I had a fast pass, was a 3 hour line on a scorching day).

I keep seeing Jungle coaster and think Jungle Love by Morris Day and the Time, an 80's funk led revival for Dreamworld lol.

Hard disagree. It is solidly the worst coaster on the gold coast, though was beaten by arkham when it was open. Though to be fair at least arkham offered forces, even if the ride felt like it was ripping itself apart at the end. Motocoaster offers nothing, is high off the ground so feels slow compared to JR, the restraints are uncomfortable, and the ride barely has enough speed to clear the 2nd lap.

I’m hoping they do refurbish the ride and give it a new theme to match Rivertown. And then they can utilise that store for the land. Would be nice to have the land begin as you cross the train line.

They literally just bought a new train and those are far from cheap. I wouldn't expect many changes with that in mind, though it would be nice to retheme the ride to vintage dirt bikes travelling through a bush trail.
