  1. What you've said Richard would be somewhat like the "On The Run outlets I'm familiar with in SA. On The Run seem to own almost the majority of service stations in metropolitan Adelaide, and within each of them they've got a range of different fast food outlets, for which the parent company of OTR (Pereguine Corporation) holds master franchises. As such, many OTR outlets include Subway, Wendys, Wokinabox, Krispy Kreme, and Brumbys bakery. The OTR stores are open 24/7, but late at night most of the food outlets would have very few if any customers. So because the outlets are owned and run by OTR (but under franchise contracts which ensure the standards customers expect) they can move the staff around between the food outlets, and the others parts of the OTR stores as needed. I've just spotted an article here about a new concept being trialed by Mad Mex. It's precisely the type of thing I had in mind for the theme parks, whereby outlets could be run by the well known fast food brands, but with park-specific themeing and naming too.
  2. Wet & Wild has a Dominos, as does Sea World. Movie World has a Ben & Jerrys. Dreamworld has a Boost Juice. So it wouldn't be a new concept to Gold Coast theme parks, but I'm talking about ways to do it better by introducing higher quality food options. They could even negotiate that the outlet in the park wouldn't be branded as the well known "high steet" brand, but would be run by the same operators using their knowledge and stock. For example, this outlet could still be called "Dirty Harrys Bar & Grill" so that it can fit in with the movie theme, but it would actually be an outlet of one of the aforementioned brands. If anything, there might be a small "By GYG" in the bottom corner of the singage. In that way, the outlet can still fit the theme of the park, and it can still feel as if it's not the place customers see every day, yet it benefits from the operators methods and stock (and reduced costs).
  3. For the same reason Westfield, Vicinity Centres, and other such companies do. There's a lot of money to be made from rent!
  4. This is why I think they should bring in outside operators to run the on-park restaurants. They could have done a deal with Mad Mex or Guzman Y Gomez, or Salsas. Get the operator to sign a contract agreeing not to charge more than they do at their other sites. Those companies already pay sky-high rents in shopping centres and manage to sell burritos at about $10. Since there's no reason for theme parks to charge more rent than shopping centres do, I see no reason for the prices to be higher.
  5. It certainly looks like it could be. I'm just surprised to see it already at this stage.
  6. There is a very substantial building being built immediately behind Outback Spectacular. There's also a section of the carpark fenced off. No signage to indicate what it's going to be. Anyone?
  7. Does anyone know how the "make your own" thing works, because to me it looks like they've already spelt out exactly what is on each burrito, and it's not like there's a self serve bar where you can literally make your own!
  8. It would be incredibly awesome if it turns out anything like the themed hotels at Alton Towers!
  9. There's already a fantastic THEMED indoor / outdoor crazy golf centre just up the road from Movie World, called King Tutts Putt Putt. Plus there's another similar King Tutts Putt Putt down the motorway near Broadbeach. There's a smaller, but still quite good one within the massive Timezone amusement centre in Surfers Paradise. Not sure we need another one really.
  10. Reading between the lines of the development applications, I think they may be hoping to attract a Legoland Discovery Centre to be the main attraction of the "Entertainment Precinct".
  11. There's 4 attractions next to each other. Movie World Wet & Wild Australian Outback Spectacular and Paradise Country.
  12. Wow. Potentially we're looking at numerous major upgrades to the Gold Coasts already awesome experience!
  13. That can be rectified. I used to live in a Lend Lease suburb that had previously been swampland.
  14. All the applications (except one from memory, not sure which) have already been approved.
  15. When do we think work is likely to actually get underway?
  16. I see in the planning applications that one refers to an "Entertainment Precinct", and another refers to "New attraction and Lakeside Precinct". Yet another application is for a "Roller Coaster". This infers there will be not one new precinct, but TWO new precincts. It also implies that the new attraction in the lakeside precinct is separate from the roller coaster. Therefore it does look to me that there are two new attractions coming (and possibly more). Judging by the names they've chosen for the planning applications, I think the entertainment precinct may NOT be part of Movie World per se, but a separate area adjacent to Movie World. However I'm hoping the Lakeside precinct (and the new attraction that will presumably be within it) will be within Movie World itself. It seems fair to assume that the roller coaster WILL be within Movie World. It would be strange to have one just outside of the park! If it were up to me, I'd be building a Movie World hotel next to the entertainment precinct! My only reservations in this would be that doing so might limit the land available for new attractions, and unlike Sea World where there is safe monorail or footpath access from the hotel into the park, it could mean residential guests having to walk across the car park to get to and from accommodation, and that could bring safety risks, especially for the kids. Of course, a monorail would solve that, but there's no suggestion that's in the plans at this point! It's a pity there are no documents available online to show the details. Regardless, exciting times ahead for Movie World very soon I think!!!
  17. I'd much rather it was a new themed land, or even just one new major attraction than something that was next to, but essentially separate from Movie World (meaning pass holders couldn't use all the new facilities without incurring additional charges each visit).
  18. A couple of minor things I noticed today (sorry, but no photos). New signage is up on the Dirty Harry bar and grill extension. The bar that was at the front of the park (I believe it was called "Stars Bar" or something similar) is now a clearance shop. If you spent $50 in the other retail outlets around the park, you can get 50% off everything in the clearance shop. This is pure speculation, but I'm assuming this is only going to be temporary. I hope so as it cheapens the feel of the park a bit. I'm wondering if maybe, the plan is to demolish that building, and it will perhaps form part of the land for this new "World's best attraction" next year. Obviously, any decent attraction would need more land than that, but there is a reasonable size area of grass behind that building, and as we know, there is a planning application in for changes to the carpark layout. Potentially, the new attraction could use all the area highlighted in red, or even more if more of the carpark was taken (with staff parking relocated, and potentially some of the grassed area at the front of the carpark used to replace the lost parking spaces.
  19. Such a sad sight. Makes me think of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJKMji2688M
  20. Horrible. I for one WILL be visiting Sea World less often because of this. Thankfully the monorail is still going though, and to be honest the monorail is the biggest attraction of Sea World for me now.
  21. Yes, but the roller coaster could be the main part of a dark ride that needs to be built. Especially if they use an existing sound stage as the building for it! Justice league is far too basic for me. It loses its novelty after the first couple of times. There's really not much to it.
  22. It may not be just another roller coaster. With sound stage 9 being built at the studios, it could be to free up one of the other sound stages for conversion into a dark ride. I certainly hope so!
  23. Ok, then a Harry Potter theme would probably be my preference of recent notable WB movies (although I've never actually watched any of the Harry Potter movies, but I imagine I'd like a ride based on them).
  24. Makes perfect sense as a location. I'm still hoping for a Jurassic World themed dark ride.
