  1. I know that while I was VQ'ing for a ride, I wasn't buying anything, I was waiting in another ride queue. I wonder if someone has actually ran the numbers on the backend after it's implementation and realised that VQ didn't translate into additional spend in the park.

Village most likely removed it to force people to pay for fast pass so they can get more money and blame it on "guest feedback".

This is most likely the answer.

If SW are removing the monorail, why wouldn’t SW just take an oxy torch to it like MW did to AA?  Carefully removing some parts doesn’t sound like demolition unless SW are hard up on cash and want to sell the copper.

Making the structure look less neglected and tidying it up. Remember they never even announced Arkham as officially closed, they just started pulling it down after they announced WoO.

There's so much evidence pointing to it's removal (or at least never returning to service) and not that much for retaining.

    Evidence for never returning:
    - University study on what to do with the track
    - FB comments from VRTP that said it was permanently closed and later retracted.
    - Disposal of other monorail trains
    - Not reopening it after Atlantis construction completed
    - Removal of components (as above)/
    - Adding lighting/electrical into the path of the train

    Evidence for remaining:
    - It's still standing
    - There's still one train left and is still parked in the station
    - They're doing maintenance on the track itself (painting etc)

Given they've removed the electrical componentry, this may just be risk minimisation - since the shroud is gone, they've made it safe by removing any live electrical componentry. I suspect the rail is not energised at present, but this prevents someone energising the entire circuit without reinstalling the shroud.

I'd hope that the monorail is adequately 'locked out' like any other form of machinery undergoing maintenance, and that any maintenance is completed before the lockout can be removed (including re-installation of shrouds).

  3. Visited LPS for the first time today, which is kinda mad considering we only live a couple of hours away.

Took a couple of snaps of the Wild Mouse. The cars have been moved back outside and are under covers. There were no pinball machines inside Coney Island, the space where the cars were in a previous photo was just empty.

There were a couple of pieces of track behind the fence just outside the Wild Mouse entrance next to the covered up cars.

  4. Saw this this afternoon; Universal announcing new Dreamworks lands

    Quote

New DreamWorks Themed Land Coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2024
Next year, Universal Orlando Resort will debut an all-new themed land inspired by DreamWorks Animations’ beloved collection of animated characters. Currently being developed in the former KidZone location of Universal Studios Florida, the new area will immerse guests of all ages in vibrant, family-friendly experiences that bring popular franchises like Shrek, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda to life in a whole new way – plus, guests can enjoy special meet-n-greets with these and other characters like Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse.

Seems to me like the loss of Dreamworks at Dreamworld was more from the point of Universal wanting it back rather than it being too expensive for Dreamworld.

No.  Not at all.  We still waited the full amount but just not all of us at once.. People duck out to get water and come back. Saw a few people just take a seat out side the queue then come back in to their mates at the end. all the time it’s just that same thing.. our group still waited the full queue.. I probably just didn’t explain it well.

No, you didn't. Justify it to yourself however you want but you still jumped the queue. Unless you're all there when your party joins the queue, you queue jumped.

  6. Is it actually just painted on though, or is it made via differing the sizes of the holes in the mesh? The latter would be much harder to fix.

To their credit, DW has been pretty proactive about fixing their signage when it's been pointed out (or at least that's the impression I get). Examples: Taipan lettering upside down, ABC kids world signage, flyer hoarding. The GD shelter has been pointed out before, and before the extended maintenance period. This tells me that it either simply does not worry them, or that the fix is a lot more involved than we think.

  7. During our Easter visit last year, we had a seven day pass. Each day we rope dropped Rivals and then either waited once for another ride like Superman or Lantern. After those two rides we left and went to either Dreamworld or Seaworld depending on our mood, it was far too busy for us to hang around all day, seeing as though the wait times never really went down.

For comparison when we were at Magic Kingdom last year, most of the rides' wait times dropped to about half around lunch time (after the rope drop rush) and were practically empty after the fireworks, that didn't really occur at any time at our parks; they were consistently busy from open to close. I don't know if recent holiday periods have been as busy, as there was quite a lot of Covid "revenge travelling" happening last Easter, but my experience back then has taught me that MW simply doesn't cope well with the number of guests in holiday periods and is best avoided if at all possible.

The other option is to stump-up for Fast Track if you are time limited, but again you need to be at the front of the queue at park opening to have a chance at snagging one.

  8. Tony Clark has a history of posting cryptic clues/teasers about new attractions, so the enthusiasts always read into anything he posts. Kinda like RMC trolling the same kind of folks with t-rex hints.

I've always thought the 'new' coaster would be grey based on the massive image of it being grey at the top of that page. I've only today realised that it's just grey scale (intentional?)

maybe they saw positive results in the Marvin ride and are already investing in a new kids ride? either another small kids flat or a little kids coaster to balance out RRRC

Personally I'd say this is 100% in response to the DW kids area revamps in the works. Competition is good!

There must be some logical explanation or reason for them to decide to put the globe where they did.. what could that reason possibly be!!

Maybe BOH is full of all the other stuff they've got on the go right now and they needed somewhere to put this that's out of the way? A lot is happening in Ocean Parade.

Always thought it was weird that they just covered RHLR over in many places. Any future attraction there will need excavation & demo before construction.

Only if there's a section that needs a pier or footing here or there.

I see it as a bit half assed, but you see it in business everywhere; it's wasted money to excavate the entire old structure when you're only going to pave over it anyway.

How does the ability to move your head sideways about 8 inches improve the ride experience to a scale of 'much better it would be worth the millions of dollars it would cost to do it' ?

For my wife in particular, being able to ride more than once without having her ears beaten to a bloody pulp.

The straps don't actually hold you in?

The newer restraints are more like the Mack restraints on Rivals/Taipan; they're more contoured to clamp on your thighs, whereas the current superman restraints are just a tube at the base of the OTSR, so the straps still play a role in holding you in overall. I don't think this is really a risk/concern on our superman ride though.

Your local grease monkey can work on your 10 year old car because it isn't a specialised bit of kit.

    Rides are

Ride 'mechanics' have more of a background in engineering rather than mechanics though right? It's more of a niche/skilled profession.

Speciality/rarity is really all this argument is boiling down to. Aviation would have SLA's on their turn arounds, and that's one of the safest industries out there despite all the lay-off's and outsourcing you hear about. Look at RMC, they started out building others' rides, now they build their own; a market could be made if there's a demand, we just don't really have it here in Aus.

    Thats neither R G or B

They were blue, now they're yellow. It's a fairly good indication that they're RGB.

Hopefully they've only used 'dumb' RGB for the light strings themselves, with ARGB controllers for each letter. This way they can still customise the lettering if desired, but you won't see the LED's on an individual letter spaz out (see also: Slingshot Surfers Paradise/Any other ARGB installation that has water get into it). Individual control of LED's per letter would be a bit overkill IMO, also the tower doesn't lend itself very well to quick and easy repairs if one of the LEDs in the string fails.

This is the W in the ground yesterday before it was lifted into place. It does indeed look like an upside M, but I don’t think I’d a mistake, I think it’s just the style of font they went with

Not to nitpick here, but it looks like a W in the proposal image, not an upside down M.

    Let there be light!

Maybe an actual W as per the render was too wide? Or indeed it's also just a different font (render was a mock up only).
