I am however very interested in the top 5 things theme park enthusiasts do wrong. Not interested enough to actually watch it - so if someone could post them here, that'd be great.

I caught the show/livestream tonight and I copied down the "Top 5 things enthusiasts do wrong"...

    1. Go one a ride during the first few days of opening and complain about technical issues and/or long queues.
    2. Focus completely on the negatives of a ride while neglecting the positive aspects
    3. Spoil the experience of various rides and attractions by watching POV's before experiencing the attractions firsthand.
    4. Refuse Front of the Line passes when visiting parks
    5. Complain about Annual Passes

I tend to agree with some of these, yet I think some others aren't the most truthful. For example, I don't think any enthusiast is going to knock back a Fast Pass when visiting an international park where repeat visits may be unlikely, however I completely understand why someone wouldn't get a Fast Pass when visiting their local park.

Quite aware, Was just noting that they now use the GK(the past 2 FN events) instead of the older RM. Don't expect the RM to return this year.

    Ah right.

From memory, didn't Aussie World use the Ring Master for one of their Halloween events as well? It makes me think that a return would be quite unlikely.

I think he's actually called the Gate Keeper at MW, not the Ring Master.

From memory, the Gate Keeper was the character featured in the opening ceremony of last year's event, where as the Ringmaster was the not-so successful attempt at an icon for 2013.

They're definitely not the same character.

    EDIT:

I found a photo of the Ringmaster on google, as well as a small photo of the Gatekeeper.

TBH, for me, apart from that one stipulation, there isn't really anything on the coast where i'd 'need' to hold on (Although afterthought - JetRescue also has this initial launch force that you should guard against). I haven't been on the 'new' Cyclone, so that one I couldn't tell you.

I do still find the urge to hold on irresistable on Buzzsaw. Something about those restraints makes you feel the need to hold on.

I agree with Jet Rescue and Buzzsaw, however my reasoning for JR is a little different. Every single turn on Jet Rescue always seems to throw me around, which makes for quite an uncomfortable ride at least in my opinion.

I'd also like to throw Green Lantern into the mix. I can handle the inverted drop or the inline-twst, but the outward banked turn and the dive loop always make me feel incredibly uneasy. You can almost always find me holding on for dear life in those moments

Think bucks parties, boys weekend's that sort of thing. I have no interest in guns, but enjoyed a day out at Belmont range for a mates buck's day.

Another mate is into golf, I've got no interest in it, but would give that a go with a few drinks etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for this. I actually go to my local driving range quite frequently, so I'm excited to not only see one near my favourite park, but to also see what new experiences it brings.

  6. Looks like an interesting concept. It's definitely something that personally appeals to me, but I doubt it'll be everyones cup of tea.

Now all we need to see is some more details. Where will this be situated? Will it be complimentary to a hotel or the proposed entertainment precinct? Or are we going to see a stand-alone driving range plonked in-between WnW and MW?

@Zanstabar what time? I'll be heading in during the morning. I think @JaggedJanine was thinking of doing the same (we usually meet up and wander around together :)) so that could very well be possible if you'll be there early :)

I'll definitely be there early that morning. Hopefully I'll bump into you two!

They will be making a series of different/exciting announcement over the coming months

Holy crap, that's sooner than expected.

Ok, so we've got $100,000,000 in additions/renewals featuring DC Comics, which will be coming within the coming months. Would I be correct in assuming that these additions would be the coaster, lakeside precinct, and the hotel? Or has MW got something else hidden up their sleeves?

  9. That art deco sculpt has me excited. It might be a relatively small piece in terms of the whole area, but it looks like it helps to really flesh out the theme of the precinct. It makes me wonder, however, if we could see future rides (such as WWF currently) getting refurbishments that bring them up to the calibre that we are seeing currently. After seeing what MW has on the table, I'm a little saddened by Superman Escape's beige box of a queue.

I'd also be keen to see a bit of a re-theme. At the moment it feels a lot like disparate parts tacked together. The first mention of explosives is at the bridge, with the first mining reference now at the entry to the chain lift tunnel. Perhaps a voice over playing in the different areas to provide a reason as to why you're in the boat and floating around.

I don't think it would be hard to add some sort of cohesive backing story. You board a cruise through the Wild West before some outlaws hijack your boat, and send you on a trip through the "real" wild west, filled with outlaws, abandoned mines, and ghost towns. Simple enough, but it would add some sense without having to change all that much of the ride.

See that was easy and makes your posts seem much more credible. Even with the tone.

Fair call. I guess my disappointment was more with the 'strongman' guy and the ringleader chicks. They didn't really seem themed the first night. Future nights they added in the makeup to them but it still didn't strike me as 'horror' really. The ringleaders and 'dark angels' (but more so the ringleaders) seemed completely out of place and just seemed to be the sex appeal of the night (and quite likely the reason some people got kicked out of the park).

I have very similar thoughts to you, Reanimated, although mine also include the fire-twirlers. Don't get me wrong, they're very talented at what they do, but it just wasn't "horror".

Has anybody flown interstate for a weekend to experience Fright Nights? Would you say it's worth it? And is one night enough?

I'm seriously considering to make a trip up to the GC this year just for fright nights. I've never been to one, and from past years photos and reviews, it seems to be a really great event.

I know the dates aren't set yet, but can anybody recall the dates it occurred last year?

In previous years, it's been every Friday and Saturday in October.

I can't speak too much about travelling interstate, but I've always enjoyed my time going to these events over the years. I would say to go for it, but I don't know your personal situation or how much this event means to you, so take that with a grain of salt.

Photos do not do the size of this ride any justice...

I was at the park this afternoon as well and I had the exact same thought. Even though it's not as tall as some other rides, it still feels intimidating and imposing, even from behind the construction fence.

I wonder why they are painting the control booth teal. I thought for a villainous themed area they might have gone for a bit more of a darker colour scheme, rather than a bright blue. Perhaps it could just be a base colour, with some more paint to come?

  14. Theme Parks.com.au have just launched the new Hunger Buster and Fast Photo theme park add ons.

Satisfy a super hero appetite, a titanic craving or a wild hunger with the new Village Theme Parks Hunger Buster.

Enjoy one meal per day at select in park food outlets at Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast.

Plus, you can now capture and save your thrills with a Fast Photo Ride Pass and enjoy unlimited downloads of your ride photos at Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast.

It's interesting to note that the new additions are available for the 7 day pass, 21 day pass, VIP pass and the Unlimited Membership. It seems like a great deal to me, and I'll definitely be adding it onto my pass.

I wonder whether this was what I saw in the park the other day?

  15. Had my first visit back to Movie World after almost six months, and I had an absolute blast.

The whole villains precinct seems to be progressing quite nicely. I didn't think it looked the best when viewing it solely from photographs online, but I'm starting to actually appreciate it once I saw it in person. Is it going to be the next Wild West Falls? No, but it appears to be on par, if not better, than some of the most well themed areas in Australian parks.

From what I gathered, almost all the rides were working as well as they could. Scooby had almost all it's effects working, but could have done with some louder music in the coaster section. Superman Escape had almost no queue for about 45 minutes to an hour this morning, which lead to some great rides, especially with a surprise spotting of @Slick. Green Lantern was working nicely, although without any on-board soundtrack. The actual operation of the ride was a tad sub-par, however. Waiting 10 minutes on the break run isn't exactly the best time, especially when it wasn't the only time it happened today.

  16. This could just be me being a little bit delirious after a long day, but does it appear to anyone else that a piece of the roof of the Arkham Tower is missing?

It makes me wonder whether we could be seeing some hefty updates to AA to coincide with the new Villains Area
