Wonderland in house photographers and photo’s.
mx5_boy replied to mx5_boy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
 How embarrassing! LOL I have photo's of the Ned Kelly gang AND also of the stocks up near the lake.. And that was quite some time ago - so 80's! I also found a hilarious picture of my sister and I absolutely drenched after being on the SRR trying to dry in the sun eating Wonderburgers.. I'll try and get the more interesting ones scanned so you all can see what Wonderland was originally like. Cheers, Michael -
Richard, Thanks for the explanation! I have few questions though. Would subsidence, flat spots on the track and worn damper springs have an effect? I can remember the Demon was at Expo 88 (that is where it came from?) and they had nothing but trouble with it, in fact I had been stuck on it when attending Expo. You would think it wouldn't be too much of an engineering evolution to replace the contact wheels and casings with variable weighted / loading springs specifically designed for such environs. It probably comes down to money of course. But in theory it shouldn't be a problem to engineer. Which is why some woodies are smoother than their metal counterparts in my mind. [wood taking forces v's metal and concrete] With the BD, I know what you mean about the jolting on the uprising. Is this because the cabin is so wide? I'd be interested to know what the difference between SP and BD's track width per car. Cheers, Michael

Flea, Your right about the Vekoma's, I guess I never took that much notice after spending too much time on TBB! LOL Head banging and jolting on coasters is nasty at the best of times unless you work out some way to let yourself be *floppy*. (well that is what I do on rough rides, particularly TBB..) As for SP, when I was younger and was attending Wonderland every other weekend, the rumour or what we thought was that car 2 or was it 3? Anyway was slightly slower and slowed down to stop before the others. It was probably urban legend or something! I think we used to make the assumption that car No#1 was the best as it was always used and therefore had the least resistance. You make me feel old.... Although when I was your age I was doing the same things! Hah Ha! Cheers mate, Michael

Do you guys have or remember when Wonderland used to always take your photo at the front gate between the ticket booths and guest relations – or just inside the park? I was going through my massive box of photo’s and found all my theme park ones, including all the Wonderland ones (the ones you buy) but also about a dozen of these little key ring things that had my picture (more often than not with a HB Character) in this little view finder thingy (hard to describe). Does anyone else remember these? I used to think it was so cool they would do that. [insert – also remembered being most definitely groped by Captain Caveman at one stage in the process of having my picture taken.. LOL] Cheers, Michael

Vibration and head banging? I've never really noticed it on the Demon beofre - does anyone have any theory as to *why* this has occurred? Is it because whoever serviced it did a really bad job, or as mate tells me, if they re-do the bearing and rollers it takes some time for them to soften a little? I am not an engineer so have no idea. As for SP - I have never had speed vibration on it either, but have noted a somewhat slower (as it appeared) cabin (which I alway avoid if possible) no# 2 isn't it? Cheers, Michael

This clearing of land, could it be for the Traffic control centre they are building at Wonderland for the new Westlink M7 (Sydney Orbital)? Exerp from news article, 23rd July, Blacktown Advocate: _____________________________________________________ ""Motorists will pay a $5 toll through an electronic tag system and bypass 56 sets of traffic lights. A traffic control room is being set up at Wonderland Sydney. "" ______________________________________________________ Cheers, Michael

Richard, In my capacity as an Equities Trader I am not allowed to use / divulge any insider information that I might recieve. Not only would it cost me my job, I'd lose my dealers licence and possibly face a stiff fine or jail term. The information that I have requested from one of my Int'l brokers is only financial / directional stuff. Even if I did manage to find out something commercially sensitive I wouldn't be posting it on these message boards! (re: above insider trading.) I did a fair bit of hunting around with Sunways financials for the past few years and they had been selling a lot of assets to get them back in the black. They kept the Wonderland interests for good reason I would suppose. Cheers, Michael

Heya everyone, It seems there is not much info floating about regarding WS and anything new they may be adding. A search using Factiva / Reuters news engines here at work digs up some interesting stories on Sunway but no real information on WS. Given the precarious position the Sunway group has been in until recently (Asian economic crisis, Sars etc etc) I am not surprised they have not spent much money on the park with the exception of maintaining it to an acceptable level. With the new investments in the Wonderland business park we might just see some of the proceeds going towards a major new attraction or themed land. I have spoken to one of my brokers in Singapore (who does our Malaysian dealings) and requested they find out what / if any major new investments are planned for Sunways - "Sydney Theme Park Pty Ltd" unit. If Sunway care to indicate that they are spending serious money at the theme park then we at least know something new is coming. I don't expect to be told about coming attractions, just if they are investing $$$'s. Cheers, Michael
