Movie World Fright Nights 2016
downunder replied to Jay Jay The Jet Plane's topic in Theme Park Discussion
For me, Conjuring 2 was my fave, I liked the sets and the live actors were good. I liked Friday the 13th and Wyrmwood better than last year, and Dusk Til Dawn was pretty good too, in some ways I preferred it to the Universal Hollywood one from a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the event this year and hope it keeps growing. I'll definitely be on the ball and get on the Silverwood bandwagon next year before it's sold out. If they do offer it next year. -

^^Sounds quite believable to me, and welcome to the forum from your lurker netherworld. I checked out TPR and saw someone I know has been on Flash at Lewa LOL. They said some good things about it, but didn't rate it a top 5 coaster in the world. Let's turn it up MW. I'm still holding hope those Mack boxes were a diversion for Intamin's crowning glory (disclaimer: I am joking). -

^I haven't been on TPR for years LOL, I'll have to have a squizz. What was the consensus on TPR to summarise, raves or something less? -

^LOL it just scrapes in, though with a drop of 190.3 feet I'm appealing for a disqualication, but it might start sinking like Magnum (now there's an old chestnut coaster myth) and drop under 200 feet. If they're building something like this I hope they build it bigger and perhaps with even more to it. Though Lewa Adventure's one looks pretty damn good in it's own right, will have to see if there's any reviews of it anywhere. -
I didn't go in previous years, so I don't have a comparison point. Did they have two mazes last year? And I'm sure they added more days this year. Monday was a good day to go, though I left early so I don't know how crowded it was later. It wouldn't surprise me if they add another weekend next year. The staff were so into it, everyone was really going for it. They were even scaring in the line to get in before the gates opened. I reckon the big American Halloween events could use some of the LP talent.

^Interesting, thanks for the info. Now in purely orthodox coaster terms a hyper is 200 to 299 feet. Let the speculation continue. A bigger version of the Iewa World coaster perhaps (if it was the same, they couldn't really claim world's best)? -

My bad, I looked for it. I didn't see it between the Simpsons quotes. I'm so freaking sorry. I'm surpised the company posted up that much information, given some of it has not been disclosed officially. -

I don't believe it was available. I saw this as an experiment to try and monetise the event further. It sounded interesting, if I was up there I would have gone. -
^LOL Kyle Scandilands in speedos in a horror maze would be so horrific you'd have to have surgery to remove the part of your brain where the memory is stored to be able to have any semblance of a normal life after.

^I hear you. I read it as "Day of the Dead" as the theme would have been inappropriate. Am I mistaken, or didn't Oct 31 at MW sell out before the Dreamworld tragedy, I thought I saw something that it was, happy to be corrected if not the case. (anecdotally, I know a ton of people who were going)? -
Yeah it was a pleasant surprise, that was my first time going. I don't know how Wet and Wild Sydney's event went, it "sold out" on Thursday night, but Optus Perks were giving away free tickets to Optus customers. A Kylie and Jackie-O haunted house was enough to scare me away.

A bit of a flying visit to this one on October 31, and it was a pleasant surprise. In a nutshell: there was 4 mazes, the rides were all open, trick or treat stations, Halloween themed concessions, a show, face painting and scare actors throughout the park. Halloscream is a separately ticketed event, and based on it's popularity I hope they add dates and expand the event next year. The mazes: Dead and Breakfast: this is a slightly re-themed Mystery Manor with a different narrative. It's short, but the sets are great and the scare actors were seriously going for it. A friend who was working in the maze promised she'd make me crap my pants, better luck next year lol (or slip some laxatives in my drink before the event). After years of Halloween Horror Nights and many other US haunts I'm pretty de-sensitised. Private Screaming: located under the wild mouse in what is usually a function room I believe. This was another really cool maze with some great performances from the scare actors. You go into a screening room and sit down to see one of the scare actor's films, but something goes wrong and she bursts through the screen and complains you've ruined your movie and you should get out. What follows is various movie monster (human and otherwise) encounters. Norman Bates was especially good. Alone: this is in the mirror maze under the slides in Coney Island. Basically it's in the dark with scare actors at various points and hanging bodies to navigate through. Good fun. Madame Fortuna's Forgotten Funfair: a carnival themed maze in a tent on the old Ranger site. A lot of fun with really committed scare actors and even some rather acrobatic performances. Sets weren't anything too great, but the performers more than made up for it. Another fun maze. It's a really solid event, and guests were dressed up even more than the scare actors in some cases, some really impressive costumes. My only regret is I didn't have more time to spend there. Crowds were light early and they opened about 15 mins before the advertised start time. I'll definitely go back next year if my schedule permits.

Sounds like Silverwood was a success, hope it comes back next year. Totally understand canning Day of the Dead. Given that it might have been quite a profitable night with no free admissions (correct me if I'm wrong?), they really put their money where their mouth is. Damn I love Halloween season, my fave part of the year. -

^I dug the second launch, though I haven't been on Mav since 2012, hopefully they haven't trimmed it since then. Seriously, has there been any significant happenings on the site this week? -

The launches on Maverick are pretty cool. The first one gets you up a conventional hill and then you hit a beyond 90 degree drop at a good speed - crazy in the back row. The second launch is like they pressed the fast forward button on the ride and it's a real kick, the coaster goes up another level. Everything is a lot of fun on that ride. -

^I'm thinking the same, another launched coaster will kind of supersede an existing major attraction, but we'll see what happens. My money is on a coaster in the style of Flash at Iewa World in China, but I'm happy to have my mind blown by something completely crazy rising up. -

^Maverick is a great coaster, IMO the best coaster at Cedar Point, and ironically one of the least tall coasters there. I personally think it will be much bigger than Maverick, but there are so many cool elements on Mav that I hope they include in the coaster. -

My friend was saying that this one is the only Twin Hammer operating in the world, now that the Malaysian one is gone. Maybe they got it cheap. -

Just to clarify, last weekend they were telling us over the PA not to buckle the safety belt ourselves and that the op would do it. A bit unusual, but I did what I was told lol. -

What about those restraints, there's a B & M hyper out there missing it's clamshell restraints lol. I haven't gone through the whole thread to see if it's been mentioned before, but the ops having to buckle up every seat belt isn't conducive to fast loads (I understand why, but maybe the restraint could have been a bit better designed). -

^^It's all a bit of a laugh, at least he was grateful we spent a fortune at MW on Saturday LOL. I mean Star Tour, discounted Pit Pass, and Ultimate Terror Tour in one day - that's getting to Charlie Sheen's hookers and coke budget levels. I'm not seeing how this coaster/fountain can be anything, but mind blowing. -

X2 is one of my faves, it's got so much intensity and is a complete mind f***. One of two big reasons to go to the mountain. Back on that big patch of dirt next to movie world (management tells my local friends it's just a fountain lol), any significant movements (other than in the worker's portaloo)? -

^I hear you there from a business perspective. Parks have to cater to a spectrum of intensity thresholds. I still enjoy the lower threshold rides, even if I prefer more intense ones. I mean I even ride Jaguar! (always been intrigued by the exclamation mark) every Knott's visit, it's all fun. From a purely personal preference perspective, the more intense the better lol. -

This is just awful, heart breaking for the families of those involved. Condolences. I'll leave it to the authorities and Dreamworld to disclose what happened.
