  1. Who said it would be at the expense of the second coaster?? I think it's fairly certain that LPM will be getting a replacement coaster for Metropolis- that's a given!! Instead I was referring to LPM installing another attraction PLUS the new coaster, hence my speculation on the what and where.
  2. The return of any of these attractions would be a cause for great celebrations!! I am doubtful of it, but if just one of the new attractions is one of those you have listed, then this will be fanatstic news!! The River Caves would be the most desirable to have yet would be the most costly of the three.I think that would pretty much rule it out straight away. The Giggle Palace has been publicly targeted by Lyndsay Fox as being his number one attraction to return to the park. A new modern take on a 1930's funhouse?? Yes please!! The question and issue would be space. Where would it be placed?? The original Giggle Palace resided on the left hand side of the face entrance where the Twin Dragon and Spider are currently placed. Of the three, The Rotor would be the logical ride to return from the past. Its footprint is quite small, and it would be relatively inexpensive to re-build. Coupled with this, there is a interview floating around somewhere with LPM's Maintenance Manager stating that they were seriously looking at re-introducing the Rotor at some point in the future. This could prove to be that time!!
  3. So the announcement for the new rides at LPM is drawing closer..apparently all will be revealed on Thursday!! Now that we know that Metropolis is definitely gone for good, what coaster do you feel will be a likely candidate?? As much as RWC is hoping for a Zamperla spinner themed to Coney Island's Tickler, I feel that Zamperla as a ride manufacturer might not be too far off the mark. A Spinning Zamperla coaster is a definite possibility ( doubtful on the Tickler Theme) but it could also be very easily a Volare , Zamperla Steeplechase or Motocoaster. My personal preference would be for a Maurer Sohne Spinning Coaster. However, it is conceivable that a Gerslauter Eurofighter or even a Intamin Zacspin could fit the bill. What is very certain is that it will not be a wooden coaster , so no updated Big Dipper clone's for historical fans like myself. The most interesting thing is that LPM has consistently stated "attractions". Given that the footprint left by Metropolis is not really ALL that big, and the fact that space is a premium in LPM, we could see a new coaster and another new attraction developed together in the existing space. The only other possibility is the removal of one or two of the existing rides to accomodate the new one(s). Time will tell, but this is certainly the most exciting news for LPM since the early 2000's. Back then, the park was redeveloped and the Metropolis was due to be replaced with a coaster (possibly a Pinfari Looper) called Vortex. This never eventuated and Metropolis was given a stay of execution. Hopefully what eventuates is not underwhelming, but is befitting for the celebration of a park of its stature, celebrating its centenary year. I remain optimistic that whatever new attractions arrive, they remain sympathetic to the past, whilst ushering in the new. Thoughts??
  4. Don't get me wrong, I am not commenting on the merits on which ride is better , just on the way that they are both perceived by the general public and the marketing campaigns involved for each. In my mind, Movieworld have been a little off the mark in their promotion of Justice League, and I don't think that the ride has made as big an impact with the general public as has been anticipated. This leaves a golden opportunity for Dreamworld to go on the front foot to really promote and highlight their new attraction, one that is essentially far cheaper and on certain levels, inferior, to Movieworld's Justice League.
  5. Totally agree 100% Alex!! I too think that this will be a great addition to the park's lineup. Dreamworld have plenty of problems and Movieworld may be ahead in the competition stakes, but i feel that this is a very good step in the right direction!! Now if we can have a new coaster to replace the much lamented and long gone Eureka Mine train and suddenly Dreamworld looks like it will be in serious business again and will draw back to an even keel with Movieworld. The Air Race is an Australian first, the ride itself is of a fairly new design and it looks like it provides a quite thrilling ride. I am still sceptical as to its "Big 8" status but the general public are going to love it!! It will be interesting to see what Dreamworld do with this ride marketing wise. If they play their cards right, this ride could have a bigger impact on the general public's psyche- more so than what has been done with Justice League- which has been underwhelming, to say the least.
  6. Agreed GoGoBoy, of the Tornado's that are currently operating in the country, this one looks like it will be the best so far!! It will be interesting to see exactly what configuration Wet 'n"Wild Sydney actually comes up with for it's own example. It will certainly have to be on the money to be as good or better than this one however. Looking forward to this park in the January school holidays.
  7. Ok.... How did you think they would react?? I actually thought the reactions were mild for a fairly rediculous claim.......
  8. Sorry but I doubt a ride of this scale will be ready by Boxing Day. April to me seems like a much more realistic time frame. My opinion.
  9. Maybe but unfortunately its your poor track record and recent history that has people highly doubting anything you claim or post. At least you have finally admitted bullshit about Mack. Kudos. Finally.
  10. Great article Westical!! The video links are brilliant!! Cheers!!
  11. I visted LPS last weekend. Took some pics of Maloney's corner that shows the amount of space they actually have for the installation of more rides. This space is severely underutilised. In saying that, there was some pretty good info from the park on FB regarding Summer rides which shows they might have some big plans for the space over the January school holidays. "Hi Luna!! Visited the park today, the kids had a great time!! Couple of questions- is the Ferris Wheel missing every 2nd carriage?? Are they down for maintenance? If so when will they be back? Also, noticed that the heritage sign for Luna Park and North Sydney Olympic Pool from the main road is missing- how long has it been gone?? Will it be back and when?? Lastly, noticed there was a lot of empty space at the back. Any plans for new permanent rides?? Also will you have a Xmas ride lineup announcement soon?? Thanks in advance! Like · [*] Luna Park Sydney Hi John! The Ferris Wheel carriages are currently being re-painted. The first half were done back in August and the other half will be back on the Wheel by this weekend. We'll make sure to post a photo of the finished product =) The Alfred St Archway, also known as the "Welcome to North Sydney / Olympic Pool / Luna Park / Bradfield Park sign" is controlled by North Sydney Council. They removed it around 2004/2005. We understand they planned to reinstate it following major building work in the area being finished. For more up to date and accurate information on this, you might like to visit www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au. Finally, we've got "sky high" plans for Maloney's Corner this Summer. We'll release more details about this Summer attraction and the additional Summer rides soon. Stay tuned!" Cheers!
  12. As has already been stated, RCDB lists all 9 Maurer Sohne Skyloop XT 150 coasters in existence. Whatever your personal view, they configure to the regimented standard classification of what defines a Roller Coaster. This is not opinion. I am merely stating the facts as they stand. The argument that they are not very GOOD coasters is another thing altogether however...........
  13. Pin142 at this time there have only been hints and teasers regarding a new coaster for LPM. There is, however, some pretty strong evidence for this in the posts on Facebook from the park. For example: Damien Crocker Get yourselves an upto date rollercoaster! Or maybe buy LPS HUSS rides seeing as they would be more suited here in Melbourne because you wouldn't have noise complaints. November 5 at 4:54pm · Like · 1 [*] Luna Park Melbourne Hang tight Damien, you may be very pleased soon... November 5 at 5:07pm · Unlike · 1 At no time however, has ANY manufacterer ever been mentioned, confirmed or even a style or model.(Certainly NOT Mack) RichardWilliamCollins statement that it could be a Zamperla coaster , whilst ultimately could TURN OUT to be true, at this stage is nothing but pure speculation. As I have said, nothing concrete has been mentioned or confirmed. What is interesting is the fact that LPM continually cite "Attractions" ie more than one. It appears that at least 2 or more new rides will debut for the Summer season at LPM. As for the Scenic Railway and the debated 6 trains, the park has plans to release a Centenary book on the history of the park. This has been confirmed on FB here: Luna Park Melbourne Wow! we love to see how many of your are enthusiastic about this pic! There are some exciting times ahead as we head into our Centenary year! We all do love the old rides of our past, as well as the current attractions. We are proud that the park now contains a mix of attractions, heritage and new, to appeal to our vast range of customers. You will be happy to hear, John, that we have a new Centenary book coming out soon which details our entire 100 years of history - including the rides you loved so much. As well as this, we are planning a 'back to 1912' heritage weekend! - Sounds right up your alley! Details will be released on our website in the coming weeks! November 5 at 11:09am · Like · 1 Its quite possible that we will get the definitive history of the Scenic Railway and its trains within the pages of this book.At least then this would be a definitive and credible source. I for one will certainly be purchasing a copy. Hope this helps!!
  14. Hehe. Buzzsaw is MOST definitely a rollercoaster. It's just one that is not that well regarded. As for my take on the new Zamperla ride, I think that it's actually not a bad addition. These rides are fairly new, its an Australian first and I think it will be a big hit with the majority of the Australian public. As for it being marketed as a Big 8 thrill ride? That is indeed a stretch.... And entirely unnecessary. Still, it's a decent attraction that really has no compare in any of the competitor parks. It's a good interim addition.
  15. How about you just reproduce the Facebook post?? That would be the easiest solution. I like the idea that Scenic Railway had 6 trains- in all my historical research I have never heard that. I welcome to find out otherwise.
  16. I can think of 4 point 5 billion reasons why.......
  17. Lol!! Then I am glad I did not say it!! I was thinking it but I thought it might not be appreciated.....
  18. Oh I don't know......I think its about time that Australia got a permanent Spinning Coaster in ONE of our parks......it wouldnt be the worst attraction they could put in. And I am clearly noting "attractions"- definitely more than one!! Which is a very good thing indeed!!
  19. Mind you LPM are being a little cagey...there is a suggestion that the Metropolis COULD be returning...its dismantling could be for a refurbishment...and the Summer attractions may only be temporary rides.....I sincerely hope I am wrong on this count.... :angry2:
  20. Guys, LPM have just published on their FB page a pic showing the dismantling of Metropolis. They have not confirmed a new coaster as of yet but they have stated that Metropolis is being removed to make way for new Summer Attractions. I think its safe to say that a new coaster will almost certainly be on the agenda!! This is great news and I hope that the replacement will be a great addition to the park!!! Hopefully it wont be too long before we have final details!!
  21. Hehe.... Oh the irony!!! In a little while, we will all be saying that the Mack argument is getting on in years.....
  22. Not a problem. That goes for all though. Now that we are all moving on and being polite vegemites, how about pointing me in the direction of the LPM article you were talking about in earlier posts RWC? I asked before but you may have missed it. I have looked but I cannot seem to find the one you are referring to. If you could send me a link it would be much appreciated!!
  23. Not a problem. I seem to recall you like to get your point across too....
  24. Comparing the existence of a deity or a faith to something that can be conclusively proven such as our subject in question are 2 entirely different things and you know it. However,if your "rumour" or alledged bullshit turns out to be true, then as I have stated numerous times before, I will be the first to apologise. I agree it does not prove I am wrong at all. It simply does not work as you have layed out. I am not said originator of your claim. I have just asked the question. Now true, I can conduct my own research and find out the truth. But why should I?? If you want to prove that you are right, defend your reputation and defend yourself from allegations of making crap up, then to find the truth is up to you!! ( I know I WOULD present evidence if I had it, to prove my integrity) If you dont, then you run the real risk of having everything you post regarded with suspicion. Of course, if i was in your situation, I would have probably confessed that I was not sure, or my information was wrong or incomplete. No harm done there. Restless assured I have taken steps to find out the truth, as far as it can be ascertained. I would certainly welcome anyone else's contributions on this,to help find the answer , EITHER way. It was not anger Jacob that led me to question, rather a desire for the truth. Being about LPM ( along with LPS something I DO have a great deal of knowledge about) I was appalled to see a claim which I thought, and still do, think is crap. Now in theory, yes I could have found this out myself. I am currently looking for an answer to that question (As have others on this board). In your state of complete disgust at me , you seem to have ignored the fact that I have offered several times to apologise if RWC is found to be correct. I have also pro-offered the hand of civility several times, to which there has been no reply from said party. In fact, whilst I have been willing to move or give on several points to find common ground, RWC has stubbornly refused to even acknowledge this. But as they say C'est La Vie........ anyhow, my point is I harbour no lasting grudges or animosity. I just have a low tolerance for bullshit - a fact I think most people on this board ( maybe even yourself) would agree on. NOW we can move back on topic
  25. Mind you it's not the first time he has liked his own posts..... Take that as you will!! Accident?? You be the judge........
