  1. Matt has a pretty good record for providing solid info on upcoming attractions. I would be surprised if his statement isn't true. This is awesome to here! We are practically getting a new area of the park, as well as a new ride experience with the improved trains. "china town alley is being gutted as we speak for the re-brand and re-launch" - Sounds like MW are spending a decent amount on this re-launch if they are re-theming the lethal weapon queue and area to Arkham Asylum and then the whole china town alley to Gotham City?? (just a guess) Can't wait till some official info is released.
  2. I went on it close to it's opening date, and yep I noticed the roughness on Buzzsaw even then. But it wasn't a traditional jarring roughness....it was more of a 'shuffle-shuffle-shuffle' movement through the twist. It wasn't too uncomfortable, but more of a surprise; I always thought Maurer coasters to be smooth and comfortable. So now it's even during the straight bits? :S this is true. Rip Ride Rockit at USO looks great; a very unique layout and with all those special add-ons; on-board audio, lighting. But all I hear is that it's 'rough' .....probably with that same 'jostling'/'shuffling' problem.
  3. I would love for the back of the park to see some new rides and shows. The western area is in need of a major ride/coaster/show. It should be a decent expansion, and if done correctly, it'll bring people back to an area that has been slowly forgotten due to the steel monsters at the front of the park. But the thing is, vacant space is a huge problem for movieworld...always has been. The only possible way that I can see for a new attraction to be built is in the space between scooby and wild west falls. I highly doubt we'll see another major show (like the grand illusion show....which I loved as a kid, and I still miss). So if that stage show isn't being used, completely tear it down, and bam, you have a decent sized area for an expansion. ^Good idea! It's a decent franchise to work with; the movies have been great. Not too sure what type of ride system you would use....a dark ride perhaps. Hmmm, you could do some sort of steam-punk themed ride, as the movies are set in that Victorian Era.
  4. Haven't been on Green Lantern as yet. But my 3 votes go to Superman, Scooby and Jet Rescue. TOT II comes a close 4th. We should take this poll again around the middle of the year. It would be interesting to see if Lethal scores more votes because of it's new trains.
  5. Without that helix....our model just becomes the stock-standard SLC that most parks have! D: We need that bonus helix, it's one of the smoothest parts of the ride. Yep my thoughts exactly. Remember a couple years ago LW had some type of problems with the supports. I can't remember exactly where it occurred, but i remember there were fractures in one of the supports. Wild guess, but maybe the problem has re-occurred?
  6. Seat vibrators, a cool string effect that gave the same effect as leg ticklers but over your head and shoulders (I think it was a curtain of string that went over the crowd), air cannons, smoke cannons?, water sprinklers. The seats were stagnant (no motion).
  7. Yeah, I saw that picture as well. I really do hope that Happy Feet has been scrapped and Spongebob put in. The Happy Feet 3D show was absolutely terrible. Blurry 3D, and there were no 4D effects. It doesn't look like Spongebob will have 4D effects either....but at least it's a change. Anybody experienced it yet? *EDIT* - I found the on youtube. Looks like the film is designed for 4D effects such as motion and water sprayers....but the Seaworld Theatre probably doesn't support those effects any more. I remember the 4D effects working when they had Planet SOS 4D running.
  8. Thanks for the advice Well when I was up there in September before the school holidays, we went to Movieworld twice. Once on a weekday and once on a saturday (which was the start of the sept. school holidays). The Saturday seemed less crowded....we got more rides on everything and the coasters were running at full capacity. So i can definitely support your findings.
  9. I was just wondering what the GC parks are like in February? I'm thinking of making a short trip up to visit the parks and ride Green Lantern. I guess the point of travelling in feb is to beat the crowds are we talking walk-ons for even the big rides? Also, do the village themeparks still run rides on a rotational schedule...or open certain rides later in the day during this period?
  10. if you haven't found out already from movieworld's facebook page....Sunrise is doing the weather updates from Movieworld this morning. Every half hour, after the news, they cross to movieworld. 6,6.30,7, e.t.c
  11. Is the SpongeBob Parade a seasonal show (just for the summer), or is it a year round thing?
  12. Did anyone head out to the grand opening yesterday?
  13. Straight from the Movieworld attraction maintenance webstie: That's nearly 5 weeks of downtime. Sounds like something more major than just your average attraction maintenance....and right before the Easter holidays; April 1st is the start of the Easter school holidays in qld. Knowing that, my bet is those new trains and the supposed re-theme are coming earlier than expected! 5 weeks should be enough for the installation of new trains and the re-theme. hmmm, exciting stuff Could a Two-Face theme be up for grabs?!? You can kinda count him as two 'crooks' because of his split persona. I just had a crazy idea..... but maybe the new trains could have forwards and backwards seating; symbolising the good and bad side of Two-face. Have a similar train design to those Vekoma Invertigo's. I mean they've reversed other coasters around....why not an slc. It really depends if the ride can be ridden backwards whilst still keeping all the forces intact. SLC with improved restraints and forwards and backwards seating could really push Lethal into the "must ride" list of attractions at movieworld. I really like the idea It effectively gives you 2 rides in 1; re-ridability on a coaster is something much needed these days.
  14. damn....this coaster is incredibly photogenic Thanks for the pics Zane! I have a feeling that the Green Lantern will become the parks 'icon attraction' now; or will slowly become the parks icon over time. It's positioning and LED lighting just gives off this wow factor as you enter the car park and gates of movieworld. Kinda pushes Superman back into the shadows....just like Superman did to Lethal when it first opened. These pov's and pics are torturing me....why must I live so far away :'( Best christmas present this year, thanks movieworld
  15. Bmull (Or anyone who rode today) have they fixed the on-board audio? And does the giant green lantern symbol just light up, or does it pulsate like the ones on the cars? In terms of intensity, does it fit in between superman and scooby? Looks like one solid coaster atm through that on-board pov. Brakes aren't too harsh either which is fantastic! Although a great looking coaster; looks like heaps of fun! the themeing hmm :/ Compared to Movieworld's other coasters, green lantern is lacking themeing. From the pics I have seen it's much better than most things at dreamworld or any six flags park; much more organised and you can tell a lot of effort has been put into each comic panel and 3D figure. But it does lack that feeling of entering a different place/world...telling a story. And no, the generic story of Green Lantern doesn't count in my books. It's a bit of a shame really...missed opportunity. Imo Dreamworld's saw mill queue and station has is more immersive than mw's latest offering. I think it's partly because it fits in nicely with the existing Goldrush area. And partly because, as Gazza said, a rustic saw mill is much cheaper and easier to pull off than a Green Lantern theme. I always thought an easy theme for this ride would be to present the queue as the training centre/grounds (Green Lantern Academy??) for the Green Lantern corps. For some reason they need more lanterns to fight for peace and justice haha Thus they are recruiting new intergalactic police officers for the corps, and you, the rider, are trying out for this honor. Quoting this from the wbmw myfun webstie: " A GREEN LANTERN must be someone who has the fortitude and willpower to overcome great fear." I envisioned the coaster to be the final test/training unit used by the Crops. to sperate the men from the boys...or in this case to pick the new Green Lanterns out of the humans by riding the coaster (overcoming great fear). This helps tie in the "will you face your fears on the new Green Lantern coaster" that they have been trying to push through their ads. If they had more money after that....they could have done a cool real-time computer effect that selected out one person in each train to be the new green lantern recruit as the car arrived back in the station. Just using a tv-screen and a live video feed, they could display footage of the cars arriving into the station on an screen, where a computer program edits in a green glow around one of the riders. maybe a voice over saying "congrats, you've been selected....blah blah blah". *sigh* that would have been awesome. *EDIT* - Looked through my post tis a bit too negative. In saying that above, I do like the themeing for Green lantern, and the area is presented very neatly....looks very polished. The improvements to the coaster design are great as well; I love the coaster, no problems. But when compared to Superman, scooby, wwf, batman and loony tunes, green lantern just doesn't immerse you into a world/place. It's something what movieworld does best....and did do until batwing.
  16. So the Green Lantern Symbol has been bolted to the structure of the coaster?? just like in the map drawing. Or maybe it's some other themeing element that can be seen from the highway.
  17. me... :S Yes there is a good looking sign, a little landscaping...but gees if Movieworld have decided to do minimal theming on this ride, I am very scared. Movieworld distinguishes itself from the other parks in Australia with it's themeing and providing an experience, rather than just another ride. The general public knows this very well; not just us. The thing is, this coaster ain't some filler attraction between rides, the Green Lantern coaster is a major investment. It should really be heavily themed just like the other coasters in the park. Please...please...please Movieworld have something up your sleeve, cause atm (completely agree with you reanimated) the ride looks like a "permanent travelling coaster". :/
  18. Thanks for the vid Russell; decent quality as well From this angle you can see that the outermost seats on the cars seem to hang off the track. I think the sensation of having no track immediately below you, especailly in the front row, will be quite intimidating. Probably be the best seats on this coaster. front row, left or right outermost seat here I come
  19. yessss! my prediction was right *punches air* . I completely agree with you Flea, they have turned those notorious trims into something special. Well done s&s. I wonder how much involvement MW had with all the little changes on this coaster, because they seemed to have picked out all the negatives and turn them into positives. Yep...looks faster than the other El Loco's, which is fantastic news. Less trims will mean more airtime over the hill before the 2nd block brakes, and stronger forces overall. I think the only element that would benefit from slow speeds would be the twist and dive; more hang-time.
  20. So is it going in here? Is it a largish building?
  21. ^ Exactly my thoughts. With all these extra features/add-ons it's clear that WVTP's wanted to create something special with Green Lantern. They've used up their budget very, very carefully....Buying an El Loco left MW with enough money to expand upon an off-the-shelf coaster; area themeing, working with s&s to engineer new 4 across lap-bar only cars, on-board audio and lighting, a steeper drop. It's practically turned it into another design. I'm impressed that we are getting something like this in Aus...sometimes it seems a little too good to be true! The last couple years have been great for our parks. Going through the list above refreshed my memory...kinda crazy how much has happened compared to other years. I must say my favourite editions would be the revamp of TOT and Castaway Bay. Yes there have been lots, but not all have been amazing additions. I think we expect our parks to perform at the level of big international parks....even I am guilty of this. And then we are disapointed to see a Maurer Sohne X-Car coaster go into DW instead of a B&M. The problem is that it'll never happen, and I've learnt to lower my expectations. Instead of thinking "lets see how Movieworld compares to Universal and Disney", think "i'm going to enjoy Movieworld for what it is".
  22. Did Movieworld hold a media morning today for Green Lantern? In the 'recent status updates' feed, HarrisonKohn said "Off to Movie World Tomorrow for a Media Morning". Just wondering if Parkz was down there, any new news or pictures?
  23. Themeparkreview also have Green Lantern train goodness on their website. Thought i'd just link the pics here; saves people from going through the whole IAAPA 2011 thread: So now we have on-board audio, a light-up Green Lantern symbol (on the trains) AND word of a $2 million euro ($2.65 million aus dollar) themeing budget. That money should give us some decent themeing surely?
  24. ^ I heard about that...love to know what the episode it is as well (name/number)? I came across this very cool water slide design the other day. It's called the 360Rush by SplashTacular. They aren't the most well known waterslide manufacturer, but they do have some very unique products; incorporating a lot of themeing into their slides, water screens and other interactive elements. I remember seeing their outlandish Alien Abduction product on display at IAAPA a couple years back......anyway back to the 360Rush. SplashTacular describes it as the "first-and only-dueling body bowl in the world". Now it's NOT just two separate bowls next to each other....rather it's two tubes/slides that end up into the same bowl. It's done in such a way that the two riders "chase each other around the bowl". It also has those drop chambers, like on the Aqualoops at Wet'n'wild. I'd love to see one of these hit our shores. Probably best suited for wet'n'wild considering they don't have a bowl slide as yet.
  25. I don't think any more trims will be added actually woo! But...this might not exactly translate into more speed down the drop. My theory for why there are less trims on Green Lantern has to do with the small incline just before drop. I'm going to borrow Gazza's pic from a couple pages ago to explain this one: If you look closely at the turn around section after the lift hill, Green Lantern has a small incline/hill after the turn around leading into the drop. However, Steel Hawg has just a straight peice of track; no elevation change. So on SH more trims are needed to reduce the speed, to keep the forces intact (hopefully that makes sense). But with GL i'm guessing S&S's design intent is to slow the car right down just before the drop....to give it a 'Shiekra hanging sensation'. So the car will reduce it's speed because of the incline, hit the trims, crawl through them......and then drop. Yes there won't be trims down the drop, but you'll probably be going at the same velocity as SH because of that small hill; keeping the forces at a safe level. It'll feel different though as the car will be accelerating down the whole way...unlike SH which is a controlled descent. I much prefer our altered version as their won't be any brakes, all free-fall
