  1. There were some guys up there doing work today. I think you will find that construction up there will occur more when they have completed the construction of the slides. One slide is completely finished now too by the way.
  2. A mate of mine went last time - said it was unreal. 20 bucks for entry, that is an absolute deal.
  3. Is this also confirmation that this has cost Dreamworld $10million? I wouldn't have thought it would cost that much. As for the 18 turns, I will get to work on figuring that out.
  4. That is a part of it, but usually the process of getting the water off the track takes somewhere between 15 to 20 minutes, so if they are halfway through it and a drizzle comes by, it will take another 15 to 20 minutes. So on overcast days you have a small chance of it working for very long if it starts to rain. Superman Escape is different, it stops operating while it is raining, but as soon as it stops it is good to go. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but the final 'hill' prior to the break run is only slightly lower than the initial hill. Taking into account the length of track and everything else, if it only just 'crawls' over the first hill it will not have built enough potential energy to complete the run. In retrospect though, it only has to reach a height of 7 metres, which is very low, so there should be a fair bit of leaway with regards to how slow it can launch. I just hope this doesn't become an excuse for Dreamworld to launch it slower than it is suppose to somewhere down the track. You can see the final and first hill in Richard's pic here: http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.p...88&image=21
  5. ^Could this be prevented by building a roof over the launch track? Because the last thing Dreamworld needs is two rides that don't just stop when it rains, but are useless for about an hour after it rains.
  6. Looking at their additions in the last couple of years, I think we should actually be pleased that they are going to so much effort this year. It is believed they are putting, what?... something like two new rides in Looney Tunes? I'm not sure. And they are building bumper cars, which is a very good attraction. Movieworld needs more of these kind of things. I know it isn't particularly movie based, and they need more shows and whatnot, but this will only help the park in my opinion. Generally give people more things to do. But moreso, free up other areas around the park.
  7. ^I think in more modern times they have really refined the use of them. It kind of seems like a technological step backward using the tyre method of launch. How does it rate in terms of smoothness, acceleration and noise? PS - I'll take an M3 Coupe, but on my budget I may be looking at a Commodore SS-V sorry to prove his point.
  8. $150 000. I might buy it and set it up in my backyard. I always wanted a wildmouse of my own.
  9. ^Yeah, I don't think that facade is perminent. After all they havn't evern finsihed internal construction and stuff yet, and the building next to it hasn't been built. I think they are just using it to gain hype. Similar to the banners, etc they usually put on the construction fences. With the way the wind was today, the banners didn't look like they were intended to be perminent. As for the idea of the area itself, they havn't finished yet, so it could be really good. As for its relationship to movies, I honestly can't create the link just yet. Once they have progressed further with that building and see what they are doing with the old Thomstone building we might be able to make some better judgements.
  10. Movieworld has shown its hand with the new attraction due later this year. Check out the pictures below. It seems the replacement of the Matrix exhibit will be the formerly rumoured, Midway Games, but Movieworld will be calling the section, 'Intencity Movieworld'. At least this is what can be expected by the sign. The signage also suggests that included in the installation are new bumper cars for Movieworld. As for the relationship between this attraction and the directly adjacent building being constructed, we will have to wait and see. No further news on the Looney Tunes area though.
  11. Not much on themeing just yet. They are starting the structures, but the day I went it was raining, so the weather might put them a little behind. It would have been a good idea for them to install those water tanks prior to the rain though and re-route the water through Mr Beatie's highway. I think the launch could work quite well, but I just think they look horendus. And as I said, when I saw them it was raining, and I really wasn't looking for them, they just jumped out at me! Something that I forgot to mention was that I was watching the 250cc's the other night and I was impressed with the onboard cam how it showed the high speed turns, etc. I think if the ride captures that experience it could really be a stunner. Give it around a month now though. Also, they have this deal to get into Dreamworld for a cheaper price until the 22nd of September, so I think the Mick Doonan Tyreshot will be opening some time after that.
  12. I'm sorry, but they stick out like a sore thumb I guess they could build something around it. I would like to see them build a full on stand type thing along that side. From the looks of some of the structures it might be on the cards. They definately have to do something to cover those things up.
  13. Ok, I'm really sorry, but I was really getting excited about this coaster, but those tyres would have to be the most unattractive things I have seen in a while - and I've seen some shockers! *Puke*
  14. Yeppo! I was at Whitewater World yesterday investigating just this - and the water heating After all it was absolutely teeming with rain, but hey, had a great day. Anyway, the forth spot on the Temple of Huey tower will be used for these. They will despatch side by side, so expect this to be a competition type slide. I also think that they will use the same tubes that they currently use on the other TOH slides, so don't expect a wizbang contraption to get the tubes to the tower, they will probably need to be carried. The only things I am not sure of are a- whether or not they will restrict it to the two person tubes, or use one person tubes as well and b - whether you have to bring the tubes across from where the slide finishes to the tube stacking area.
  15. Sorry, I took a bit yesterday but can't get it onto the puter yet. It looks as though they will use those yuck friction wheel things to launch this baby. I saw a whole line of them under the launch track. They look horrible.
  16. Product placement. It seems the only thing they may be updating is the loading platform. I think they already did some work on Terror Canyon earlier in the year? Something you can't really see from the picture is that the enclosed slide on the left hugs the ground under the other two slides heading toward the far side. It has a fairly steep slope (for a slide anyway) that bolts up that hill toward the platform. I tried to get a view of it, but you can see it better when you drive along the road. It probably won't take long now for them to finish the slide layouts.
  17. It is interesting how a couple of people have mentioned that you should attempt to get as much out of your ticket as possible. I took a couple of friends to Dreamworld in the month of my birthday to make use of that half price deal with the platinum pass. For one of my friends, it cost her $32 to enter and she went and spent somewhere in excess of $150 on absolute garbage. I think you would be surprised how much people are willing to pay on top of their entrance fee. After all, with all the special offers, etc, entrance to most of our parks is rarely the advertised price in any case, so they thrive on gaining income through all of these revenue raisers. As for them including an arcade in Movieworld. They have had the gaming machines, etc there for some time, so it really isn't anything new. They could do with adding a couple of new arcade type things though. I would like to see some kind of laser battle game thing thrown in, but I don't think there is enough room. And I agree with Gazza, it should be visually appealing. I think with Movieworld (and while theming of late *may* not have been as good as it has been), the park has never made an installation that looks untidy. The major advantages I can see are these: 1: If they build them indoors and air condition them, many people will find refuge in this area on the particularly hot days. 2: Creating it into a full blown arcade could provide oppurtunities for people to spend more time in the park, and 3: Moving all of the gaming machines into one location could free up space for further attractions, namely in the blazing saddles area.
  18. Yeah, I was just thinking that. Does that mean you will have to carry the tubes up to the despatch point also? Unless of course they create a seperate platform/queue area similar to their other towers. I havn't seen it lately so I am not sure what has been built.
  19. They have started planting a bunch of trees on the far side and are gradually coming across the site. Sorry bout the quality, taken on my phone:
  20. ^Guess that could be useful. I would have rathered see them build a bbq area or something though.
  21. I was reading about this Function Centre thing earlier, but what exactly is it used for?
  22. Wasn't that blazing saddles arcade? But yeah, I am pretty sure they are moving them. Probably explains where all of the stuff from the Five and Dyme went as well. Could be putting them all in the one place? I think you would expect them to go in the corner either in or next to Matrix. If this is the case, I hope they make them a little more appealing then they are currently. It could also free up a lot of space around the park for other attractions in the future.
  23. I would probably have to say that whatever they are doing could be two seperate attractions. The only reason I say this is because they can't really connect the two buildings up for one attraction because the parade vehicles have to pass through the gap between the two buildings. In the Western Area I mean.
  24. Here is an update. The train for the Surfrider is coming along. Anyone else think they should call it Kelly Slater's Surf Rider? Just kidding... Pics: And the new slides have started going in... EDIT: Sorry, the two middle slides are completely enclosed and look like turbo tunnels. The side two are open from what I have gathered. I didn't get time to check out the track pieces out the back.
  25. Ok, didn't have to wait very long. They have started building something near the Wild West Area. Just to the left of the Matrix exhibit:
