  1. I found this quote from their preliminary report interesting:
  2. The only thing with that is that food is a need while Lego is a want. When I'm at Dreamworld, I need food during an all-day trip but I do not need Lego. If I want Lego, I can buy online later or go to my nearest store another day, especially if it is cheaper there and/or online. As much as I dislike seeing franchises in theme parks, if a food product is tasty & cheap, it will sell well and we all know theme park food is higher in price than most would like. If Domino's was cheaper & tastier than in-house food, it probably was a success. I'm not sure but is Domino's still in any of the Village Roadshow theme parks? True but both stores have things that you cannot do online. If Robina's store was just selling Lego products, you're right because of online shopping, it will make little difference but with those extra non-online features, where would their customer base go more to - Dreamworld's (for being larger and/or at a theme park) or their nearest store, which could be Robina?
  3. Alceon Group has today announced a new Lego Store will open in Robina with many of the features found at Dreamworld's Lego Store. However, Dreamworld's store will be about twice as large. Robina's store, at QIC Robina, is due to open by November. How does everyone think this will affect Dreamworld?
  4. Looking at those satellite images, it also confirms another part (Toboggan tower was demolished relatively quickly) of Blue Lagoon was demolished finally (though still sad as it was a wonderfully themed area compared to Whitewater World) - mainly some of the souvenir, food & beverage shops &/or amenities. (I can't remember which building had what).
  5. Just so you know, DW has confirmed that coaster is still in place. Just wondering, why the hot air balloon?
  6. The video is only an indicative render but I have this slight concern that the theming of that coaster could be shifting. It was themed to HotWheels in 2014. If the license was only 5 years, it will expire in November. At least the video confirms Dreamworld Express is unaffected & the Big Brother Studios area is barely used for the twisted reverse halfpipe. And it is highly likely now, in my opinion, that there will be no dark ride section though I hope the wider area is themed well. Rocks doesn't look enough so far. Here is an updated to-scale layout map: For some reason, there is a lot of space between the launch track & Buzzsaw compared to the video. Other than that, it is mostly accurate.
  7. I still think Blue Lagoon is unaffected. It does fit in the Thunder River Rapids' site though. Here is a to-scale layout map I've made: If it's wrong, it may need to be moved slightly towards the right and/or the twisted reverse halfpipe needs to be lengthened or redrawn. The show building seems to overlap the Dreamworld Express track/train shed regardless which may indicate not much theming or a lack of dark ride section. Does everyone think Dreamworld Express is unaffected? What does everyone think about how I drew the twisted reverse halfpipe? How accurate did I get it? Does anyone think it will head into the Big Brother Studios area? If is doesn't, well it seems they demolished it because the Big Brother House was burned down and they may have already made plans for it's demolition from their now cancelled plan for a new amphitheatre where this coaster is being built. This took me a while to get the Blue Fire layout in the position shown in the artist impressions with 100% accuracy so please don't criticize if it is slightly wrong.
  8. Not until the Coroner hands down his findings hopefully later this year but maybe not until next year and depending on his recommendations/findings, maybe that won't be enough.
  9. I'll plonk this here as it covers everything and it adds to the article but here is a full edited transcript of the investor presentation:
  10. Dreamworld has it's best day in years yesterday with it's suite of high-profile ride investment announcements and now reality returns... The Courier-Mail has published an article and an editorial (links below), which are both subscriber-only. Article: EXCLUSIVE: Funding shortfall families' anguish at coroner court logjam - PLEA FOR TRUTH Editorial: Editor's view: Time to address our coronial crisis From what I can gather without subscribing, here is the key point: There is a funding shortfall which is causing delays in the QLD Coroner's Court and despite DW hoping the findings to be handed down by years end, The Courier-Mail think it will be next year. The victims' families (...and The Courier-Mail) are thus understandably losing patience. Just found this quote from the investor presentation transcript I found and posted in another topic:
  11. Found a photo of it and yeah, definitely looks like them building the new slide tower but an application has not appeared yet online as far as I can tell so hopefully it just delayed in appearing (though the photo was taken 20 days ago and construction seemed to have started well before then)? Otherwise...
  12. Well it seems to be in the Thunder River Rapids area like I expected though it's rotated 180 degrees (that is, instead of a south-north launch on the east side, it is a north-south launch on the west side). I do think the GCB is inaccurate in saying the Whitewater World expansion has commenced construction - there are no applications or works underway. Just the hole in the ground where the now cancelled/delayed lazy river was supposed to be. As far as I am aware, Blue Lagoon has not been demolished. It has not received approval nor has Gold Coast City Council received an application. Only the Big Brother Studios area has been demolished and that definitely had approval. Unless it is because they were initially planning to build a new amphitheatre and then cancelled it and then the Big Brother House got burned down so they just decided to demolish the Big Brother Studios anyway, the reversed twisted halfpipe might feature on that plot of land with the reverse launch section extending over the Dreamworld Express train line/shed?
  13. This is great news about DW probably getting a launch coaster but whilst it may, in the end, be in the Blue Lagoon/Big Brother Studios area (as it is a similar size), the only concern I have is can it fit with the Dreamworld Express circling the area (as the coaster makes some low passes on the outer edges) and why put it there leaving the Thunder River Rapids area still empty? I'd rather fill that latter space up otherwise people would still be walking past that site filled with the remnants of traumatic tragedy on the way to the new coaster. Here is how I imagine the new coaster placed in the area of the now-gone Thunder River Rapids: And how I imagine a kind-of artist impression: What does everyone think? It is reasonable to be Blue Lagoon/Big Brother Studios but I'm leaving all possibilities open until otherwise confirmed. Also, without any replacement yet for Thunder River Rapids, the Big Brother Studios/Blue Lagoon area is a bit out of the way still.
  14. The public exhibition period for Grand Gorge Falls & Koala Kove finished recently so the plans are no longer accessible via Kiama Municipal Council's website.
  15. I have never watched the show so might need someone else to explain how this could turn out (like how many questions?): Hard Quiz airs tomorrow at 8pm on ABC.
  16. Sad to hear @Jobe. I'd give it not until after 2022 at this point - assuming it ever goes ahead - though it was highly likely to not be built until after 2020. Interesting he wrote "upcoming development applications" as all known future rides have already had a development application submitted for but it is likely he could have just been saying that for clarity. Still the more interesting question has not been answered: Since the alpine coaster was initially part of their current plan for the 2020/2021 season, what made them change their mind?
  17. You are both right: Perth/WA is no Gold Coast, which is the mecca of Australian theme parks currently, so: non-WA theme park enthusiasts aren't going to go into extreme detail about every aspect of WA theme park's operations (like annual maintenance dates, food prices, season pass prices etc.) and all Australians are interested in the Gold Coast theme parks due to it's great base for a week-long holiday consisting of 6 theme park-related attractions. Again, it is the mecca of Australian theme parks. Lastly, sadly, Australian-unique WA theme park investment is rare. Only Abyss stands out as unique in Australia. There are also reliant Perth-based forum members to provide major updates on what is happening over there when need be. If Adventure World suddenly announced a hypercoaster, I'm sure the hype would be just as great as for DC Rivals HyperCoaster. Personally, I do not plan to visit Perth anytime soon so that's why I don't pay much attention to the Perth theme parks though when a new investment is announced over there, I do read about it to see what it is. Anyway, this is going off topic...
  18. @AlexB True. I just wrote 'DA' as shorthand for 'application' as whilst there are types of applications on there that are not clearly a DA or a BA, I assume people unfamiliar with the new system to confuse the terminology of 'development' & 'building' applications as they sound like the same thing. Plus, apart from the application description, there is nothing else on there to read of note so I don't know why someone would look it up unless to just confirm it or contact the Council about the application? With the new system, hyperlinking the post to the application's webpage is also pointless as it always leads to an error page now. But I apologise to you for putting 'DA' as since you are familiar with the system, it led to you heading to the wrong section. It is a 'BA'. I'll quote the application number next time I post a 'DA' or 'BA' on the Parkz Forums.
  19. I like theme parks but I don't follow every single thing occurring at theme parks hundreds of kilometres away. If there is something major, I'll follow it. Just like how I expect Gold Coast residents, who make up the majority of Parkz forum members, not to be interested in a one-off charity concert at Jamberoo but may be interested in major new extremely well themed rides or Australia's possibly first alpine coaster. It was just a natural assumption that containers hosting themed panic rooms on the Oxenford property would be for Fright Nights as I know they have held them for a long time & applications for them appear mid-year. I checked this topic, found no mention of the application so I posted it. I didn't know some other MW event had them recently. Being hundreds of kilometres away, I have better uses of my time than reading about a theme park event lasting just 2 weeks. There is very little chance for anyone outside of the SE-QLD/Northern NSW area to plan a holiday around a 2 week event, which was probably announced very shortly prior to it being held. I'm more interested in reading about permanent rides that will still be there next time I plan a holiday such as, most notably, DC Rivals HyperCoaster.
  20. I don't follow that either. Well, you can all ignore my initial post in this topic then.
  21. Not unexpected but this was submitted in early July:
  22. I don't follow Fright Nights and I know they've done this before but just so you all know, this was submitted at the end of June:
  23. I didn't mention this on the Parkz Forums a few months ago but Jamberoo Action Park recently hosted a 1 day charity concert called Take Action: They raised money for farmers but I doubt it provided a long term attendance boost for the park. Probably just a boost for the 1 day. It was the first concert hosted at the park in a long time (maybe 2 decades?) and was promoted locally. Good corporate social responsibility.
