  1. Yeah, I had a go on the Bumper Cars today and they are a whole lot of fun. I have to say that I wasn't impressed when I went on the ones at Dreamworld, but besides the obvious lack of devotion to prettying up the walls and all, Movieworld has a superior product. They are a great ride and I really enjoyed them. Now, for the next issue. The Intencity area in general and the County Games. I'll briefly touch upon each seperate because they are in a way quite different. To those who question the point of adding Intencity, the place was packed. Yeah, you can probably play those types of games anywhere, but if you really enjoy them (as a lot of children in particular do), how often can you spend half a day playing a bunch of games and testing your skill for little tickets and spend the other half of the day hitting some of the best rides on the coast? For a lot of the people this is a really enjoyable opportunity, and for Movieworld, another outlet to rake in the cash. As for the County Games. I am going all out here and saying that I spent two hours at these today. No, Movieworld wasn't lucky enough to snag a whole bunch of my money (hehe - though I did walk away with a five buck Bugs Bunny that costs 20 at the wB store) but it was really entertaining to watch people having a go. And what seperates this from fairground rubbish is that in many cases you do actually have a chance of winning, and in quite a few cases people walk away with something. Naturally, each game has a different angle that ultimately sees Movieworld make money, but it is quite an enjoyable area to spend time and stretch out the day.
  2. If you were going to do a Simpsons ride that wasn't the one at Universal ie, a river ride or the likes, there are a thousand things you can theme it to. I would go ahead and say theme it to Duff Gardens or Itchy and Scratchy land, but that's just me. As for them building inside the Western Show Stage, I am going to have to disagree. I think that this is a spectacular show venue that really should be best utilised for a range of Movie Based Shows - similar to the current Shrek Live, but perhaps a little more relevant to the movies they are associated with. As for the area in front of the Show Stage. I think it is pretty obvious that that area is being brewed up for additions next year. Ideally, they should redevelop the area, but that could simply be updating the scenary and potentially adding several new shops or more interactive elements to tie in with the new rides. I am not sure how they would go for sound, but in front of the show stage is a little further into the park then Wild West Falls, and there is every chance they could build a sound barrier when installing new attractions. I think building behind Scooby will be left for a couple of years yet, but I honestly don't know. If you are asking what the next major addition needs to be, I agree entirely with the idea of a family based ride. Essentially, Movieworld needs something to take the pressure off Scooby Doo. This may neither be the time nor the place, but I was thinking to myself today that if Movieworld were to open a Motocoaster this summer it would seem to fit more appropriately in their park. Couple the fact that it would be targetted at its appropriate audience, and the endless list of potential theming ideas, it more than likely would have been an ideal installation. The list of installations Movieworld can use is endless, and to list them would go on forever.
  3. Definately do Superman Escape first. It might seem like a leap but it is by far and away the best. In my personal experience, prior to two years ago I really hadn't been on a coaster or thrill ride for almost 8 years. My brother convinced me that Superman Escape was a really good coaster, but I had no idea what to expect. I was a Superman fan so I thought it was just the thing I had to do haha. Plus, the concept of going 'Superman fast' really sounded awsome. That being said, the first time we went through, well... let's say its a good thing I was wearing brown undies. I had no idea what to expect and when the ride was finished I was salivating for more. Best day of my life I reckon.
  4. Well, I think the funniest thing is that when people were lining up, that guy at the gate, the one with the wierd teeth was saying that half way through it starts to go really slow. He directed these comments at a small family asking if it was really fast or anything. So obviously, the general vibe is that this is very family friendly. The second thing I find interesting is that the park map gives it a 'moderate' thrill rating. So, just some trivia for ya as well. PS - I was third go...
  5. It is smooth. No complaints there. Well, as I said, it could be a personal thing because I am prone to cramping, but prior to the cramps kicking in, I didn't have an issue with the comfort (or lack of). Well, I think Dreamworld were stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they came out and said it wasn't worthy of being considered a thrill ride they would have conceded that thrill rides were not high on their agenda at the moment. However, in saying that it is a thrill ride, it has sent the message that the ride is something that it is not. In my opinion, it is not a failure. The ride is very good, and I think at some point many people will talk about this as a very unique attraction and will generate similar good memories for children and families as the likes of Scooby Doo or Eureka. But in the context of developments, if you were working on the premise that this was the attraction we have been waiting for, then this thing is an enourmous fizzer.
  6. Stardust, what line did you take - pole position, general or the back? Yeah, the back half gets very tame very quickly. And the worst part is that your legs get drilled and you really can't do anything about it due to the slow completion of the ride. It might be a personal thing but my legs were cramping and I had absolutely no way of stretching them out. Other than that, I will have to say that I am very pleased with the result. I think for children this is fantastic, but Dreamworld really shouldn't be including this thing in the big six. I think Mick Doohan's Mopedcoaster should be promoted for what it is. It is a family thrill ride and it achieves that really well, but making the claim as the most thrilling thing this decade or whatever is a bit of a stretch. In all honesty, I think that is why you will find that Dreamworld hasn't gone all out on promoting this baby in an attempt to not overhype it. I get the feeling that it is in a way a small addition and they are building up to something bigger in the very near future. Or at least I will keep my fingers crossed - at some point, they will have to install a decent response to Superman Escape. EDIT: Spelling mistake correction.
  7. Ok... this is officially my new favourite coaster that I havn't had a go at yet (replaces Maverick). That is unreal!
  8. Haha, I know. I didn't mean it like that. I meant that the visual appeal of the room is a little uninspired. It is basically just black - like everything is black. And, yeah, they are going, saw them yesterday.
  9. There is a Tweety. It's in the tree at the top. And they have foliage over the metal support. As for Bumper cars... they look kind of boring, but should be a good ride. And the midway games in the old west look awsome also.
  10. That's a pretty bold statement from Dreamworld, but would you expect anything less? Well, sooner or later it will have to prove itself.
  11. After reading some more into this, I am hoping that in some respects they were merely testing to see that the train will complete the course at a lower launch speed, ie, if it only just crawls over the first hill. After all, watching that test it seemed that the train only just made it over the first hill. I'm not great at judging speed, etc, but I don't think it looked like 70km/h. I guess the only thing we can do is, is wait and see when it opens.
  12. Wow that's quick! /sarcasm. Please tell me that they were launching that test drastically under speed because that hardly even made it through the course.
  13. ^They take the whole slide piece out... like in the Simpsons... In all seriousness though, and with respect to some of the comments made about the general appearance. Keep in mind that the last time WhiteWater World built anything in this area, they ripped a whole bunch of the paths up to install these new attractions, so I think it is a safe option. I am personally pretty happy with the grassed area. It looks like a cool little place to go set up a picnic or something. EDIT: Sorry, was replying when Gazza's post came through with the Simpsons reference haha! Goes to show though.
  14. ^Yeah, they have built a pool under the SurfRider.
  15. Yeah sorry, it is pretty hard to show with a still image. The jets spray you with water as you are coming back down the track. I honestly couldn't see where the water comes from, but I could see it spraying so I assume it is coming from somewhere. And again, it isn't very easy to get a good shot of it, but the water does give the train a fair soaking.
  16. I have to say I am very impressed with the general appearance of the WB Kids area. I had a popped by this afternoon and grabbed some pictures. They are moving along pretty quick it seems:
  17. SurfRider was testing today. It looked pretty good I must say. From what I saw, it also has proper water jets, so it should be a really good ride! The new slides will more than likely be ready soon too. Pictures below...
  18. Well, if anyone was going to question the pace at which people can work when they really have to. Check out these pictures. On Monday, when I went, the place looked horrible, now check it out!
  19. Stingray has been gone for ages. Last time I saw it, was when I was on an excursion with my brother's class and one of his students pulled the bar down and it came off or something. We made a joke that he broke it, but I went back no longer than a month later and the whole thing was gone. This was probably going back to late July now. I think this raises an interesting issue though. Is the phrase, "closed untill further notice" metaspeech for "it is gone but we aren't ready to admit it yet?"
  20. Full speed testing was underway some weeks ago. It was just going that slow we thought it was a pull-through In all seriousness though, they should be testing real soon. I might keep a keen eye out and pop on by soon.
  21. ^I'm gonna have to disagree mate. I know it sounds like a really povo sort of a name, but when you think about it, it is really quite creative and context relavant. Take it out of Whitewater World and yeah, you have a really silly name.
  22. I went by Dreamworld today, didn't grab any pictures because anything I could get has already been captured so well thanks to Richard, Saberon and a few others. Cheers for that. The only things I noticed was that the construction fence now surrounds the old Paddlesteamer queue area. The entry to the ride and the ride sign will be located adjacent to this queue are. This could suggest that they will use this as an extension for the Motocoaster, or even just get rid of it. You would have to say though that it might have made more sense to remove it earlier if this is the case. You can also see inside the exit shop. It looks really nice in there. It is packed with motorsport merchandise as could be expected. The good news though is that the shop almost looks ready to go, so in spite of the delays, the coaster should not be too far off opening.
  23. They have a sign on the exit slides for the cannons that says "The Little Rippers".
  24. Yeah I was being sarcastic. I could have come up with that concept art using autoshapes in word.
