  1. I have always wondered why it is the Gold Coast that manages to have 3 main theme parks which are quite successful while Sydney has not. Sydney is Australia's largest city and is the destination of 50% of all international tourists to Australia each year because it has the major international airport for one. There surely has to be enough demand for a themepark in Sydney if it has a good location, because it definately has access to a greater number of visitors than what the three main Gold Coast parks share.
  2. Can I ask why you think it that Reptar needs painting? It didn't look like it desperately needed paint to me.
  3. I do have a new computer now, however the graphics card I have is not as good as I probably would have liked. But it runs RCT3, just on lower graphic settings than I used to so my quality will be a little lower, but so long as it works that is the main thing, and depending on how busy I get, I will probably start building things again. At this stage I won't be continuing with Cedar Point just yet if ever because it is one HUGE park and takes a very long time and the game isn't really designed for parks that large. But I am thinking of recreating another Australian park, mostlikely Seaworld (even though it is more scenery than rides but it would probably look good in the game) or MovieWorld which I already made in RCT2 but I could transfer it into game 3. Since I have never built Seaworld properly before, I am leaning more towards trying it out at this stage, but if the general consensus of these forum visitors would rather see MovieWorld in RCT3 then just tell me and I will try it. Also if anyone has any recent maps of either of these parks which they could scan and email to me for example, or knows where I can find them online it would be appreciated, as my maps are a few years old and I don't know whether the maps have changed since. (I do realise that park layouts haven't changed since last time, but in making a recreation it is made easier by having a number of different maps as the illustrations are not always accurate so it is necessary to compare two different versions to get something as close as possible.) Anyway, I hope to start on the weekend sometime on a new park, unless that is of course I decide to buy a new game. I was thinking about the Sims 2, does anyone know if it is any good or not? Because along with building theme parks, I also like building cities in Sim City 4 and building houses in the Sims. (Since I enjoy creating things in games so much, I am starting to wonder why I am studying to be a lawyer rather than an architect or engineer or something, but anyway. Building something in a game and in real life is different I guess.)
  4. I was at dreamworld last Saturday, and Reptar was running with full trains. I went on it twice because a) it was a nice fun ride and b)it was a reasonably short wait like the Claw (unlike Cyclone whose wait times drove me to near insanity in that damn circular room, whoever came up with that idea needs to be shot.) But Reptar was getting a good enough usage anyway when I was there on the 12th and it seemed to be running smoothly.
  5. I was disappointed about the log ride being closed since it is a good fun ride and I wil be there on the 12th of March. At least none of the bigger rides will be closed because if the Claw had just so happened to be closed on the day I go, I wouldn't be very happy as I really want to go on it.
  6. Yeah I am enjoying it, although I am tempted to say otherwise since this morning the colleges in which I live had their start of semester compulsory fire drill at 7:30am, so that so far is the only thing I haven't liked about Uni, but other then that I am really happy.
  7. Sorry for late reply, but thankyou for the honour of winning this competition. It makes me feel very good when I see that people enjoy what I build, as much as I enjoy building them. Thanks again and hope to be back soon.
  8. Hello everyone, sorry I am not around at the moment making parks and things but I am trying to get myself set up with a computer (I am on the Uni one at the moment), but I may even get my old computer which I used to use, so I don't know yet. Hopefully next week I should be back online and doing things. Anyway, I will have to judge for myself how accurate my Dreamworld recreation was when I am there on Saturday, so I am sure I will see everything I did wrong. Anyway, I hope to be back online soon and visiting this forum more often (I REALLY MISS HAVING INTERNET!!).
  9. Unfortunately I did not manage to get my recreation of Cedar Point completed before I move away tomorrow, so here is what I managed to get done. I would say it would be close to half completed. Note though that some of the things at the back of the park are not completed correctly, such as TTD, whose tower was in a temporary position. Anyway, this park can be opened in the scenario editor or in the custom scenarios menus. Just unzip this file into My Documents/RCT3/Start New Scenarios/. I hope you like what I managed to get done, and my apologies for not finishing it, as well as not finishing some of the other recreation projects I wanted to do, but hopefully in a few weeks I should be able to be playing the game again and be able to continue with creating recreations of some of the Australian parks.
  10. Yeah, I will if they get finished, otherwise I might just post a collection of my unfinished things.
  11. These forums aren't for discussion about grammar, but for it to be completely clear what was meant, it did need a 't'. Because it is very easily interpreted the other way, thus the tense was needed.
  12. If Wonderbus was referring to the culture of the ancient Egyptians, then the letter 't' was left off at the end of mean to indicate past tense.
  13. Despite the fact that the pyramids are the only surviving wonders of the ancient world and very important to preserve, the nearby city of Cairo (to the great pyramids atleast) has a huge problem with pollution. And as I saw on a documentary about the pyramids last week on the history channel, this pollution is not doing wonders for the survival of these ancient structures. As well, there is the fact that in previous centuries the stones on the outside of the pyramids were taken to be used for other building projects in the Egyptian cities. So it just shows how important the pyramids are for their culture, doesn't it?
  14. I don't think something like this will ever overtake the onride photo. Onride photos are simple to look at and show everyone what ride you went on. With a video on a cd or dvd or whatever would take too much effort for someone as lazy as me to put in a computer or something just too look at. But I agree that it would be good for showing on queue line TV's in preparation for the ride.
  15. Maybe I will try and make a Wild West Falls sometimes this week and possibly some other rides from the Australian parks. Since I won't be able to finish Cedar Point by the end of the week, I might just spend some time just building individual rides.
  16. Here is the image of the new ride I said I was building. I think teki that if you do run a competition for designing water rides next time like you said, you should have scenery & theming as a part of the judging since a lot of rides like these are based around theming.
  17. If I remember correctly in the one of the first series of The Mole, the contestants had to find particular billboards or something and one of them was the big one out the front of Dreamworld though that was as far as it went with the park. The Mole is one of my favourite reality shows. My favourite reality show is the Amazing Race - its a great show, but unfortunately I didn't watch it when it was first on so I missed the first couple of seasons before I got hooked. I think they should do an Australian version so that I can apply for it.
  18. Thankyou, doesn't take much effort though, I got lazy and just randomly placed trees everywhere. At the moment I am building a themed river ride which I would say is a hybrid of Bermuda Triangle at Sea World and I guess Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. I think so far it is my best ride of my own design that I have built, because I think it looks really good coming out of the big volcano and everything. This will probably be my entry in future river ride competitions if there are any, and I might post a screenshot later.
  19. I was just checking out the Gamespot website and noticed that they had added RCT3: Soaked to their database. On this, they have an interview with someone from Frontier and they have five new screenshots of the game. Screenshots show an underwater view of a dolphin or something swimming around, another showing waterfalls and the addition of a ride like the Claw at Dreamworld, as well as a few others. The screenshots can be found at: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/roller...ex_6118055.html And the interview at: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/roller...ew_6118055.html
  20. Here is my entry into the waterslide competition. This is just a quick job that I have done, if I get time I might try a better one but this will do for the moment. It is called 'Pirates' and as the name suggests uses pirate theming from RCT3. This ride is probably better suited to a log flume or river ride just because the high walls of the waterslide don't allow you to see much in the way of theming. Those without RCT3 can check out the screenshots I have, and those with the game who want to ride this waterslide, just unzip the park file into MyDocuments/RCT3/Parks/. And then open it in Sandbox mode. I recommend riding this ride at night because it is much better with the lighting I have used. Hope you like it.
  21. For those wanting to reminisce about the look of this ride, there are a couple of pictures at the Rollercoaster Database site here at http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig2383.htm
  22. I'll have a go too if I remember. Do you want just plain water slide tracks, or can they be integrated into scenery and theming to make it more interesting, especially for in RCT3?
  23. I really enjoyed riding the Dragon Coaster too when I was younger. It was the highlight of my trip to the Myer Centre. The height above the shoping centre and the sharp turn inside the cave were the best parts I thought. Anyhow, if my memory serves me well, I had a feeling that the Dragon Coaster was sold privately to an individual I think, for not a huge amount of money. So I am sure there could be some lucky rich person riding it around in their backyard. (If I ever become extremely rich, I want a themepark in my backyard - no queues, YAY!).
  24. Here is a screenshot of the expansion pack. I am looking forward to it, but I wonder what sought of customisability the water parks have. Looking at the pool and the curves it has and everything else, I doubt the game would let you individually customise the shape of the pool and then fill it with water. It looks like something that you choose the shape of and then place just like a ride, see that the path that runs past the poolside doesn't allow access to the pool. I am guessing that guests have to queue and go through a special entrance just like a ride to get into the pool, so that there is a limit on the number swimming all at once. Either way, it still looks like it is the much needed expansion pack that this game needs, especially considering most theme parks have water park components to them. The other thing they need to deal with in this expansion pack is the lag issue. It is bad enough in any decent sized parks in the game at the moment, let alone even more scenery to use and different rides, as well as running water and the like. So the lag issue is the most important thing to fix if this game is going to be a good expansion.
  25. Here are some more recent pictures of my recreation of Cedar Point in Roller Coaster Tycoon. Please note that the tower on Top Thrill Dragster is not yet in the correct position.
